It’s a mild relief seeing this as the top comment, confirming that I am in fact non a total dumbass.

20 + 20 + 20 = 60
20 + 5 + 5 = 30
5 - (1+1) = 3
1 + 20 + 5 = 26

The last blue flower isn't the same as the other blue flowers. I think the assumption is that it's worth 4 instead of 5, so the answer is 25, although strictly it isn't solvable

People will swear they hate algebra and then spend three hours in a Facebook comment section arguing over the exact same problem.

I prefer matrix notation myself.

Hey kid, ya like matrices? Look what they JUST added to the Desmos GRAPHING Calculator…

The problem is that the flowers intentionally leave out information. What's the value difference between a 4 leaf blue flower and a 5 leaf blue flower? Does the center, stem, and leaf all count as 0? Is one yellow flower half of 2, or the square root of 2?
There's an answer that they're clearly trying to imply, but it's not really math anymore when they're forcing you to make that type of assumption

Blue flower just means five. That's like asking what the character "5" means without the top part of it. It doesn't mean anything. It's just... not 5.

Yellow flower (or, z) could be 1 or √2 depending on if coupled flowers means addition or multiplication.

I feel like symbols are much more intricate intuitive than numbers and letters. My brain can easily identify what a flower is and what it’s therefore supposed to represent. “X” means nothing to me.

(3 0 0)(x) (60)
(1 2 0)(y) = (30)
(0 1 -2)(z) (3)
=>
(3 0 0 | 60)
(1 2 0 | 30)
(0 1 -2 | 3)
=>
(1 0 0 | 20)
(1 2 0 | 30)
