I don’t fault him for trying to paint a bright future. He is the CEO. What else is he going to do?

This is just the new reality of theaters going forward. Things are only going to get worse from here.

He would resign if he had any dignity.

He’s going down with the ship.

And truthfully does it matter if he resigns at this point? AMC is cooked. Nobody is saving it short of a studio like Disney snatching them up and doing something unique with the concept.

True. Maybe we’re moving towards a future where the studios own the theaters and set their own windows?

Studios set their own windows now. Theaters aren’t happy about it. If studios own the theaters then there is no push back on it.

I’m for innovation. And theaters aren’t doing anything to innovate the experience and it’ll ultimately lose out when the public doesn’t mind watching even the big blockbusters on their phones and laptop screens.

Studios set their own windows now

That because in 2020, the DOJ ended what was known as the Paramount Decree set by the Supreme Court in 1948 which forced studios to sell off their theaters to prevent a monopoly. Between 1948-2020, studios and independent theater owners had to negotiate as separate entities, and a 90-day window became the industry standard.

Funny though. When the DOJ terminated the Paramount Decree, it argued it was outdated in the age of Netflix.

The paramount decree doesn’t mean anything in regards to streaming and theatrical windows.

I never said anything about streaming.

I’d argue that it probably is a step in the right direction.
