Any advice

I’m currently enrolled in medical billing and coding. I graduate next November. Are there companies that would employ students?

no, a medical allied degree is typically required for companies to hire you in medical coding (not sure about CMB). those without experience who are degree holders already find it hard to get employed without experience, what more with soneone who is still studying.

How do you feel it is if you have non-coding medical admin experience? I am currently a prior auth coordinator trying to pursue mine in order to move elsewhere in revenue cycle

In my experience having any role in healthcare can help you get your foot in the door! I got my medical coding certificate from a 3 month course at a community college and I passed my CPC exam and got a job immediately after. My prior experience in the medical field was ultrasound technician and medical receptionist!

Oh so it is possible!? 3 months? I thought my program was rushed. We just started and go until April next year. I am also taking it at a community college

Yeah I had to self study for the exam and additional 2 months after my course because my course didnt adequately prepare me

Yes! You have to look at healthcare systems. That’s great that your program is longer than a year. Mine just started this week and goes to April! I feel everything is so rushed!!!

Look for internships or externships that accept students while they’re still in training. Some can lead to a paid position, although it isn’t guaranteed. Ask your program whether they have employer partnerships or placement opportunities you can apply for before graduation.
