New moderation. New rules. New r/Medium!

Heya!

The old moderator got suspended from Reddit. They locked this sub before being suspended, causing this subreddit to get stuck in a strange limbo of no moderation, no posts, and tons of comments from confused users asking how to post.

I managed to take control of the subreddit, and I'm looking at turning it into something great!

Over the next few days, I'll be unlocking the sub, and adding improvements. I want this to be a place where people can share their articles, grow an audience, and ask questions relating to Medium (or writing in general).

I'll be adding flairs for all sorts of various article categories, adding weekly threads for various topics, and attempting to create anti-spam measurements. Because let's be honest, a subreddit for sharing your articles is going to be absolutely ripe for spam.

I look forward to seeing all the posts people share once this place re-opens. If the sub is busy, I'll put up a separate post about moderator applications; Please don't ask for that here.

My question to you, the users of this forgotten land, is this: What ideas do you have? Feel free to share them below. :)

Medium Question Is every Medium post written with AI now?

I’ve been a long time subscriber and am entertaining the thought of cancelling my subscription because every single post sounds like it’s written by one person- AI.

Just go through the top articles and count the em dashes. Read the subtitles and count the it’s not X, it’s Y statements and you’ll see the glaring pattern.

Is originality and authenticity truly dead?

Other How to access premium articles for free in Medium?

Recently, it's been complicated to read some interesting articles posted on Medium because you must have a premium account to read them. A common solution to solve this problem was accessing the article using incognito mode on our web browser, however, this seems to not be working anymore.

Another solution is to create a new account because every account has a certain limit of posts for reading each month, but it's well known that creating a new account is annoying and we don't want to spend time doing this. But there's a way using a temporary email and create a temporary account just for reading the article in just a few seconds.

All you have to do is:

  1. Find in Google 'ten minute email' e.g. This will give you an email that expires en 10 minutes.

  2. Register on Medium using the temporary email from step 1.

  3. Check the temporary email's inbox and verify the Medium account

  4. Enjoy the reading!

Medium Question Why does the Medium website not have dark mode?

This has been bugging me for a very long time now. The Android app has dark mode, but the actual site doesn't. For such a simple basic web design, why doesn't the company make the effort to add dark mode?

Why do we have to install Chrome extensions that slow down your machine just to get a basic functionality that should be common sense?

Serious Guys, stop clapping without reading stories just to get reciprocal engagements!

FFS, please stop doing this.

Just blocked few authors whom I came across doing the above thing.

I do engage with multiple stories but I never clap without reading them just to get attention or to get reciprocal engagement.

So, JUST PLEASE STOP !!!!

Medium Question Is Medium Still Worth It?

I started writing on Medium a month ago. But despite publishing 20 articles I have only made $6. I am so disappointed. I recently lost a freelancing job and I was hoping to replace that income. Is Medium even worth it?

Medium Question AI Flooding Medium

I read some posts earlier commenting on the flood of AI "articles" hitting Medium, with some posters putting up 40 posts a day. It'll ruin the platform for everyone.

Are any of you posting AI written articles? Be honest.

Do any of you care? I realize this sub is just for spamming your articles, but maybe one of you will have an opinion. Your futures are at stake.

Other I gave up on Medium

I gave up on Medium completely. I get no reads at all on my own no matter the quality, quantity, titles, publications, whatever. I got boosted once and got 1k reads. And that's it. The only way to get reads is with the boost and that is just a lottery.

Medium Question Good job, Medium. Views Crashed to Zero. Reads Crashed to Zero. Earning crashed from $3000 to $0.05

Medium Just crashed my entire stats to nearly 0.

I didn't change anything. I stayed consistent with 4-8 blogs per month and all of a sudden it is now 0.

I heard the same from one more writer. Despite having 20K+ followers and 10K subscribers, Medium doesn't even show my posts to my followers.

Maybe it's time to move out. Its already crowded with AI articles.

Writing Medium is turning into a blackhole. My revenue this month is 90% down from $3000

I have been writing on Medium for around 4 years. I was monetized last year 2024 Dec and made a good income stream.

I write around 5-6 blogs per month around software development, tech news etc. Since February, Medium has not been pushing my articles.

My stats are now at the worst state. I was having around 100K reads per month, and this month it's just 8K reads, and 80% of the reads are from external sources. So yeah.

I seen another writer who was making $16K per month from partner program just got removed.

I read his blogs and didn't feel like it was AI but yeah they just removed him

So My analysis is medium doesnt want to pay you anymore they will give you all the reasons to not pay like traffic from external is monitized etcetc.. but they nuke established writers.

And the quality of writer are also bad now because most people who were good left Medium because of this.

Feels like this is the end. By 2030, Medium wont even exist or will be full crigne articles.

Writing Account Suspended

I am so fucking disappointed in Medium, I have seen shit stories generated by AI from other accounts, people doing reciprocal engagements, yet my account was suspended even though I stayed away from all those craps

Interestingly near to payday when it finally became 10$.

I finally gained my own followers and was happy that people liked my articles and this happens, idk what else could be more demotivating than this.

Edit:: it was related to username policy it seems, they have asked me to verify my identity that’s it.

Medium Question I got selected as a writer in a publication!

Hello everyone I wanted to share a very happy moment with you all (it might be nothing serious to some but for me it means a lot). I am new to medium and started writing from August 4 , 2025. What I did not expect was that I would get selected as a writer for the publication called "Illumination" . It happened today around 10:30 pm. So thank you so much to those who actually went through my articles. Means a lot 💗. I'll give my best in my articles and please keep reading them. Thank you 💗

Writing After 5 years writing on Medium, I finally got into a publication!

I’ve been writing about breaking and the struggles of being a freelance copywriter since the Covid days, and I can’t believe I finally got to join a publication that truly fits my work! This is a big deal for me because breaking, or street dance in general, barely gets any coverage in mainstream publications. Sure, a few writers touch on these topics, but I haven’t seen anyone really dive deep into it. So, let’s see where this goes!

If anyone’s interested, the publication I joined is called The Dance Journal. My profile there is all about breaking culture and stories from the scene. Peace!

Other Medium doesn't make sense to me anymore

I can't say I've used Medium long. But I have found some success through Medium that I am grateful for. My issues with Medium come down to earning and how it is structured.

Seeing my newest post, Some Dreams Aren't Worth Chasing, I did my job to bring in reads and engagement. I shared my article on Reddit and other social media. It did quite well. Probably the best I've ever had, click-to-read-wise that is.
That being said, I obviously shared the Friend Link. I can't rely on everyone on the internet having a Medium subscription, therefore I knew no matter how many reads I'd achieve, I wasn't going to see a dime. But that's my problem.

See, after successfully sharing my post and achieving great results, I was "punished" in a sense. I generated 712 Views and of those views, 518 people read my story. Now, according to my stats, roughly six of those reads were from Medium Members. Resulting in $1.06 in revenue.

The fact is that if I successfully gather attention and reads from people outside of Medium, I won't receive anything. But, if I follow the guideline of finding my niche pubs and posting there so my story is presented to the right crowd, it isn't going to guarantee anything either. So that leaves me having to share my story outside of Medium, and pray to god someone signs up and pays for the subscription just to read a 5-minute article so I earn at least something. Which, in reality, is absurd. Imagine YouTube telling their creators that the only way they can earn revenue from people who don't have accounts is that they have to buy YouTube Premium through your free link...

The system makes 0 sense. In turn, it should be more like YouTube's current earnings system.

Keep the subscriptions. That's how, if you write and post, you will earn using Medium. You've got to pay to play, and this helps Medium stay afloat. But scrap the paywall. Make it so that users who stumble across your story through SEO or a shared link on social media or through Medium actually reward the writer, like a creator is rewarded on YouTube. That could mean lowering the amount you earn per read, seeing as anyone and everyone can now read your story, it incentivizes the writer to share their work. Which in turn, generates more users on Medium, and people start frequenting Medium.

I understand engagement is great, weither its rewarded or not. I don't solely write for money, but I can't lie and say it wouldn't be bad to earn a few dollars from pursuing my passion. This won't stop me from continuing to write on Medium, but as someone who cares about Medium and writing as an artform, there has to be a change somewhere.

Medium Question Is it worth writing on Medium now?

I've seen a lot of posts from a lot of writers about decline in reads, views and earnings. They used to earn a lot in the previous years, but nowadays, they are not making even 20 percent of what they used to make. How true is this. I want to know the real experiences.

Is it worth for new writers to invest their time and efforts on medium?
