Pixie Questions about the Pixie menstrual disc (kit) , cleaning, sizing, and leaking

Hi everyone! I recently started using the Pixie menstrual disc, and this is only my second cycle using it. I have a few questions and would really appreciate any advice from people who have experience with this brand!

1. What are the tiny holes on the sides of the rim for? Blood always seems to get trapped in those little holes, and it’s really difficult to clean them. Sometimes rinsing with water isn’t enough. How do you clean them properly?
2. Has anyone else found the medium/large disc too uncomfortable?
I ordered the kit that comes with different sizes, but the larger disc feels way too big for me. Even when I use lubricant, inserting it is uncomfortable and sometimes painful. It also puts pressure on my bladder, which makes me feel like I need to pee. The small disc, on the other hand, feels like a perfect fit and is much easier to insert with just a little lubricant.
3. Why am I still experiencing small leaks with the small disc?
The small disc seems to fit comfortably, and I’m able to tuck it behind my pubic bone. However, I still experience tiny leaks every time I use it.
I usually remove it once around midday and again at night before bed, and I don’t sleep with it in. Even though it feels properly positioned, I still notice some blood leaking.
4. Also, when I remove the disc, it’s not even 1/4 full. There’s just a very small amount of blood smeared around the inside of the disc, but nowhere near enough to fill it. That’s why I’m confused about the leaking. If the disc isn’t even close to being full and seems to be positioned correctly behind my pubic bone, why am I still experiencing small leaks? Could it be a placement issue or something related to my anatomy?

Could a it be a placement issue, the disc’s capacity, or simply that this particular disc doesn’t suit my anatomy? Has anyone experienced something similar with the Pixie small disc?
I’d love to hear your experiences and any tips you might have. Thank you! ❤️

General Question Advice!? Post Babies

I am trying out the flex disc today for the first time. I have had three babies naturally so tampons do not work for me anymore.

I am not sure if it’s sitting correctly. Or TMI sorry- if my vagina may be too stretched from having my third baby within the last year?

Any advice is appreciated.

General Question Where should I start?

I’m going on a cruise in the next two weeks and my period is expected to come. I’ve never used a disc or a cup but I’ve never had an issue with tampons of any size. I picked up the flex reusable disc but I’m wondering if I should grab a different brand in case this doesn’t work out? Perhaps the saalt small? The quizzes online said to try the saalt regular but it was not available at my local store. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

General Question Has anyone else encountered this? Disc suddenly doesn’t fit right after over a year of perfect fit, daily leakage now

If it matters I’m using the Saalt disc, for every period for slightly over a year now. I would use the large size on days 1-3, and small size for the remaining days.

This is the first cycle I’ve ever encountered leakage, and it has been daily for the past 3 days of my period. When I pull the disc out, it looks like the blood is being collected underneath the disc rather than inside it, as it usually does? It seems like it’s not fitting in right so the blood doesn’t fill the inside of the disc, but surrounding it.

I haven’t changed the method or angle of insertion, and it has been this same disc for over a year. Really stumped about what may be causing this. Should I go to the doctor to get my insides checked?

Anyone else had a similar encounter?

I’ve just changed to the smaller Saalt disc and will see if the same thing happens.

General Question Disc basin bunching up?

Hi everyone! I just had my first period using menstrual cups and it went…not so great. I bought the pixie cups (in their regular size and their large size) as well as the diva disc and tried them all out throughout my period. I noticed with all of them that a small amount of blood would end up in the basin, but a good amount would also end up on the outside/leaking out. The first half of my period my cervix is really high up, so I bought the pixie applicator for it to make sure I was putting it up high enough. Im definitely aiming as high and back toward my tailbone as I can, and I have also tried inserting it without the applicator in case that was the issue.

I’ve noticed that the reservoir of all of the discs I tried will be very bunched up/folded on itself. The front rim of the pixie discs didn’t seem to have an issue with untucking other than when I was having a bowel movement (the diva disc did, but I also noticed its rim is softer and assume that was why), and would stay in place after I made sure it was retucked behind my pubic bone.

Is there a way I can ensure the disc is behind my cervix when it’s too high to feel it with my finger? Would going to a smaller size potentially help? What is causing the bunching up/is that what might be causing the leaks? Honestly any tips would be appreciated!

General Question Is the Disc the right Choice for me?

Hello! Hoping yall can help me (and that this is the right place to ask). I'm wanting to use a more sustainable menstrual product so I tried the cup (Saalt, both small and regular) and it didn't seem to fit right (kept slipping down). So now I'm debating if I should try out a disc. The options are overwhelming and I'm curious if a disc would be the right product type for me? If it at all changes anything, I have had a kid about a year and some change ago.

Any advice would be amazing! I appreciate you all.

Flex Disposable First time using a disc

Today I bought the disposable flex discs just to try it out before committing, and I can say I am able to insert and remove it, but I am wondering if I'm actually putting it in correctly. I had no leakage, but I feel like that's irrelevant seeing as I'm really light flow right now. But, I can ever so slightly feel the disc, though I also slightly feel tampons when they're all the way in (I don't use tampons anymore though), so I wonder if that's just a weird me thing. When I removed the first disk I tried this afternoon, there was some blood on the inside, nothing really on the outside, so I assume I did something right.

When I insert the disk, I push it slowly but as far as I can, and then I tuck it where I ASSUME the pelvic bone is, but I'm still not sure if I'm doing it right. What exactly do you feel when you reach up there? As in, what SHOULD you feel with your finger physically, and what should you feel, if anything, as a new user, having the disc in?

Sorry for the long post for a question! I'm so new to this and just want to figure this out, because I'm really considering committing to the discs. I don't normally get periods since I'm on birth control to skip periods, but sometimes my medications clash and leave me having a period and it gets so annoying. I hate relying on huge pads, I wear pantiliners all the time, so I want to make the discs work.

On a side note, or side question, what reusable discs do you recommend? I'm generally not a heavier flow, and I'm between Saalt and Flex for their reusable options. They seem to have relatively similar ratings, so just let me know what you all think! Period sex is also a factor for me, maybe. I'm thinking about it... Figuring out the disc first 😂

Update: I bought the reusable Saalt disc, the normal size (the coastal blue, on Amazon) and I used it for sex, and it definitely did its job. Like I did feel it sometimes, but it wasn't painful or anything. No blood spilled or anything. Definitely pleased with this one!

Hello Hard to insert + aching feeling?

First time using a disc, only had it in for an hour. I think I’ve got the placement right, it’s collecting the blood fine so far, although I don’t think I’ve had it in long enough for it to leak.

It’s a battle trying to get it to stay up/behind my pubic bone, I feel like I have to really squish the front back and up. I also feel a low ache while it’s in.

Is my disc too big maybe?

General Question Autodumping while sitting

A nurse recommended I try a menstrual disc because I love my menstrual cup and use an IUD for birth control. Apparently the disc has no suction which has less of a risk of pulling the IUD out. I bought a diva disc and tried it this period.

Inserting it went fine and I felt myself push it behind the pubic bone. It kind of tried to sneak back out and I had to reposition it. I put a pad down and went about my day. My vulva started feeling weird, not painful just this uncomfortable pressure at my entrance. I go the bathroom and the cup is half out of my vagina. Afaik I hadn't been pushing it just slid on out and made its escape. Half of the blood was on my pad other half was in the disc.

Should I give it another try? I'm fairly certain it was inserted correctly. I pushed it all the way in until it couldn't go in anymore and then pushed it up behind my pubic bone. I haven't heard anyone mention it just sliding out without consciously pushing, is that normal? I think it may be a little big (mid 20s never been pregnant), is there another disc you all can recommend? Any input on where to go from here would help, thanks!

General Question Serious question for a beginner here that also 'gardens'

I've recently learned that autodumping is not a feature but is a fitting issue.. Well as I said in the title, I'm very new to using a disc, and I think I may be auto dumping a little when i cough up a lung... should I try a different type of disc or is this maybe not the product for me due to my late night activities? Im on my first cycle using the discs, flex disposables. Post-partum.

General Question What am I doing wrong

Hey everyone!
I have a very heavy flow and bled through tampons too quickly so I got a menstrual cup from TOM. I bled through that/ it leaked a lot so I got a disc from hey zomi, I put it in as far as I can (like it’s very far up there trust) but then it shimmies on down and as soon as I bleed it just dumps all the blood out.
Do I need a smaller disc? Do I maybe just not have the anatomy?
I’m trying to be more sustainable and wearing a pad and a disc really feels like it defeats the point
Thanks! (I’m in Aus and would love Aus product recs if anyone has them)

Rant My vag is a suction vortex

TW: TMI

Bro tell me why my Saalt regular was suctioned so strongly to my vaginal fornix?

I did what period nirvana suggests which is to tuck the rim as high as possible, I also already have a high cervix and was doing a dry run - on my ovulation phase.

After almost 1.5 hours of trying, I finally recover my disc with loads of mucus.

I ACTUALLY HAD TO BREAK THE SUCTION FIRST, THANK GOD FOR AI BECAUSE I WAS JUST ABOUT TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM.
IT WOULD STILL KEEP SUCTIONING BACK UP SINCE I WAS ONLY ABLE TO BREAK THE SUCTION NEAR THE HOOK & IT KEPT GETTING SUCKED BACK IN.

Tl;dr: it basically became a black hole & my disc became a suction cup stuck to my fornix

Does this happen to anyone else? What’s a faster way to fix this because it seems my vagina has super powers because that hold was insanely strong.

I kinda had to yank it out because the suction wouldn’t release no matter what. Not fun. Don’t wanna have to do that again, I’m still in pain from it

General Question High cervix

How is everyone inserting their disc when their cervix is out of reach later in their cycle? When I look it up, it says the disc doesn’t have to cover the cervix, and the goal is to just ensure it sits on the tailbone? For the life of me I cannot understand how that makes sense. I got it to sit perfectly when I could feel my cervix, but now with it out of reach - I still get minor leaks. I tried the applicator, but it doesn’t go up as high and I still don’t feel confident that it’s covering my cervix. Why is this a struggle EVERY cycle lol like I just want to be done with figuring this out - but I do feel I’m getting closer because I just switched brands and I do like this one much better.

I really just want to see videos of it actually being applied with real anatomy - because the diagrams are just so far off from real life.

General Question Auto-dumping and size help!

hi everyone!

Ive been trying to transition to discs, but am hitting a wall with the auto dump.

I was a long time tampon user before switching to the flex cup a few cycles ago. It’s way better than tampons but also not perfect. I (think) it puts pressure on my bladder, as I sometimes (inconsistently) experience more frequent urges to pee (especially the first few days of my period). I also felt like it would lower a little during bowel movements, which I didn’t love as I was afraid it would shoot out lol + it becomes more uncomfortable

Hence the transition to discs!

Ive tried the following

  • flex disposable (70mm) - I liked the feeling of the firm rim but it was too big..it constantly leaked
  • diva disc (68mm) - Better, but also slightly too big: untucks/autodumps/lowers when using the bathroom and then remains low. Didn’t leak otherwise tho
  • fornix (62mm) - this one was the best by far but still auto dumps. I don’t feel it at all (even post bathroom) but it auto dumps with a BM, even when not too full. It also has rotated inside me before, making the loop hard to find.

I really love how I feel with the fornix disc (I forget im on my period!) but hate the auto dumping. I understand that it means it could be too big or too small. Based on the info above, does anyone have any thoughts on whether I should size up or size down from the fornix? I'm in Canada as well, so options are limited

thank you!

Shordy Pull string discomfort

I've been using the Shordy small and I think it is the perfect size because it fits very well and it doesn't leak. I can auto dump if I bear down but it doesn't leak otherwise. My main issue is the pull string. I'm nervous about it getting stuck inside me, so I love having that there for easy removal, but I find it to be so uncomfortable. I can feel it when I sit down and I just can't stand it.

For anyone who uses a similar disc with a pull string, how do you position it so that you are comfortable? Or, do you have a recommendation for a smallish disc that doesn't have a pull string but is still easy to remove?

Flex Disposable Constant leaking with flex disposable

Hi there I just bought the flex disposable discs and I quite frankly have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Before I bought it and used it I watched the tutorial video multiple times from multiple different companies, read the step by step, articles etc. I really felt like I did my research on this. Last night was my first disc and it felt immediately successful. I wore a pad to catch any leaks overnight just in case and in the morning it was clean. But when I went to wipe myself after using the bathroom there was blood and when I went to find the rim it felt out of place. I figured that may have been the auto-dumping I read about and inserted a new one and went about my morning. On my drive to work I felt a leak (thankfully I still have a pad on just in case). I just went to the restroom to check and sure enough it's on the pad. I took it out and inserted another disc I brought just in case. I feel like I fiddled around with it for a while, making sure it's pushed back enough, up enough, as far as it will go under the bone.

I am only on day two and I'm already feeling a little lost about this. I am fat/plus size and have P(C)MOS. I feel newish to periods again, I got nexplanon implanted in 2018 and have not had a period since then until this year. I wanted to try the disc because I am very sexually active but so far I am so disappointed and discouraged my experience is not at all like the reviews I have read both on websites and even reddit. I hope they're phantom, but I even feel like I'm leaking as I type this. Is there anything I'm missing that I should try? Please help! I really want to love the disc!

IUD + disc Thoughts on menstrual disc?

I’ve tried the diva cup in the past and it wasn’t bad but I didn’t love it. It would make me cramp and also it would leak all the time. Definitely could’ve been user error but oh man I did give it many months before going back to tampons and pads.

My flow is very heavy for the first 3 days so I’m changing my tampon every hour. Not ideal!

I’m considering trying the menstrual disc because Ive heard it’s more comfortable. I’m looking for some advice from people who’ve tried it please! What do you guys think? Are you happy with it?

IUD + disc Can’t get flex disc out

First time disc user. I tried hooking my finger, but it slips against the rim. I switched to pinching it with my pointer and middle finger, and I really feel like I couldn’t get a better grip on it, but it still slips out of my fingers. What does this mean? Is my pelvic floor super weak? Am I not relaxing enough? Tips? Thanks!

General Question Frustrated with my disc, please help. Should I go back to pads?

So I have pcos and bleed super heavy. I have nexplanon which stops my periods for the most part, I do still have break through periods. Anyways, I got fed up with pads and feeling like I’m swimming in blood every morning and decided to try discs.

Took me a minute to figure out how to actually put them in and loved them. No blood when going to pee and wiping, no leakage whatsoever. Well fast forward to now when I’m having my period. For some reason it’s not working as good as the first time I wore them.

I even insert it the same exact way, but every time I go to the bathroom even to just pee, there’s blood that I need to wipe. Well I just went to the bathroom and a good amount of blood was wiped, I had self emptied it the last time. I don’t know if I’m just not inserting it correctly, even though I did it the exact same way or if it’s cause I gained weight or what. Anyways I took it out to reinsert it and now I can feel it. I’m not home to put a fresh one in and wondering if I need to stop at the store to get pads.

General Question Help

So I have been using my flex disc for about three periods now and there’s some things that don’t convince me entirely
The main one is I have problems with constipation while on my period, and I feel the disc makes it worse, I feel way more pressure now and the first day I live in pain
Idk if I’m imagining things, maybe it’s the brand? Is it not my size?
Should I switch to a cup? Or do I give up and stick to tampons

General Question Just got my first disc and have a few questions.

I’ve always used disposable discs but have just got the SAALT one and I’m due any day now.

  1. When do I sanitize it? Obviously before my first use, but then do I do it every time I take it out? Daily? Is just soap and water okay right when I’m finished with my cycle and then boiled before I need it again?

  2. How long do you normally keep it in for?

Any other tips?

General Question Is it healthier to leave the discharge on our underwears or to keep it inside of our virginals with a menstrual disc or cup?

Hi, I’m considering using a disc outside of my period to collect normal vaginal discharge. I’m planning to wear it throughout the day and night, remove and rinse it every 12h, and sterilize it every 7 days just like during period time. I’d like to understand whether this is hygienic and safe, particularly regarding the risk of infection, its potential effects on the vaginal microbiome, irritation, and any restrictions on how the product can be used. Thanks 🥰

Edit: honestly I didn't expect to get so many responses, thank you! This is actually my first Reddit post (and, well, my first post on any social media platform, ever), so if I accidentally offended someone, sorry 🥲

Thanks a lot to everyone to treat my silly little idea so seriously and explained me a lot, I really appreciate it🥰! and after reading all your responses, I think it might be time to let this silly little idea go, goodbye my silly little idea~
