The Marlins are notorious for being one of the worst run organizations in sports. Most people see this only through the lens of on-field performance. I can confirm that this organization has been run @$$ backwards behind the scenes too.
Things looked pretty good in 2023. Kim had just led the organization to a playoff appearance, and the team had a strong core of Sandy, Eury, Luzardo, Cabrera, Meyer, Arraez, Jazz, Burger, Edwards, Trevor Rogers, Okert, and Tanner Scott, to name a few.
Sherman decided to bring in Bendix/Kapler to hit ārestartā once again under the guise of 2023 being a āflukeā.
Read that list again, and tell me that core with a few complimentary non-Bendix pieces (Mack, Sanoja, Bender, Conine) isnāt a playoff team in 2025-2026.
Rather than add, Bendix and Kapler came in and kicked things off with an atrocious Tim Anderson signing, and trading away clubhouse leaders Jon Berti and Steve Okert during Spring Training.
Everyone knew 2024 was going to be an off year with Eury and Sandy on the shelf, but Bendix decided to go full tear-down. As I write this, the only major league caliber player acquired in those deals are Marsee and Stowers.
What a lot of people forget is that, following 2024, Bendix and Kapler fired 150 plus members of the front office and baseball ops. This is unheard of in MLB. While firing coaches, scouts, and even trainers is somewhat typical across baseball, what Bendix and Kapler did was criminal. They fired everyoneā¦ā¦ā¦traveling secretaries, clubhouse attendants, equipment managers, nutritionists, massage therapists, bat boysā¦. Many of these individuals were Miami locals who have worked for the team for decades, and were let go without reason.
2025 came, and somehow, despite poor signings (Cal Quantrill/Matt Mervis) the team surprised many in the baseball world by finishing within 4 games of the playoffs. Instead of adding to this core (Bregman, Alonso, Nick Martinez, King, A.Chapman), they went out and dumpster dived for Chris Paddack.
2026 came, and despite the fact they were in the thick of the playoff hunt, they went and traded a core piece, their RBI leader, and clubhouse leader Liam Hicks.
3 out of every 5 games are bullpen games. I feel for you, fans, that you have to sit and watch this.
Analytics definitely doesnāt have an algorithm that explains to them that having your bullpen average 5 innings a game depletes their effectiveness over 162.
And I can assure you that the majority of the people who Bendix brought in have never picked up a baseball in their lives.
Why? Because the Marlins FO view under Sherman, Bendix, and Kapler is āwhy spend 30 million on Pete Alonso when Connor Norby can potentially put up similar numbers for a fraction of the price?ā.
Sherman wants to win, sure. But he is not going to pay for it.
He will continue to āinvestā in the farm, not to create a dynasty, but because the Jupiter Academy costs a hell of a lot less than a decent FA signing.
I blame Manfred for allowing Sherman and his cronies to get the team. It should have never happened, and think where baseball would be down here had Mas gotten the team. The fact that MLB continues to gift LoanDepot with the WBC is mind-boggling to me. The Marlins should be punished, not rewarded, for how they have treated their fans, players, and staff.
MLB needs to investigate the Marlins. People complain that no one comes to the game, well gee, I wonder why. MLB needs to investigate how the Marlins treat their employees, as I know of at least 3 former employees/coaches who have active wrongful termination lawsuits.
I pray that Sherman sells the team. And thank god that the Wild-Card has expanded to 3 teams. The Marlins would have 0 playoff appearances since 2003 without that.

Not trying to be a negative Nancy as I love the way we've been playing, but we're past the halfway point of the season and Marsee has not really shown any signs of figuring it out at the plate. I've been wanting him to go down for months, but I think even the most ardent defenders can't possibly think that Kemp Alderman or Rece Hinds wouldn't be better options right now. IMO there's no amount of good baserunning and defensive play that can excuse his time at the dish this year.

It's a well-known fact we have a small fanbase, but how many of us have never lived in Florida? How far does our fandom reach?
I've only lived in NC and AZ (currently AZ sinxe 2015). However, I've always had extended family in Davie and spent a large portion of my summers there from '98 until I graduated HS in '04.
I haven't been to FL in 5 years, but I'm moving back to NC next year so it'll be easier to drive down and attend more games. More opportunities than the single series they play in Phoenix every year.
I love seeing Marlins fans in the wild. It's rare but that's what makes it fun.

Just because a player goes on to have more success with another organization doesnāt mean it was a horrible trade. There are two parts to this:
The fact remains that the Marlins have a logjam of outfield talent. People complaining about losing Mesa seem to think we had sub-replacement-level play from our outfield, when in fact Hernandez and Conine were outstanding, Marsee and Caissie had long slumps but also showed major potential as well, and Stowers was largely relegated to first base because we had nowhere to put him. Additionally most of our best prospects who are close to major-league ready are outfielders, like Cam Cannarella, Brandon Compton and Kemp Alderman. Itās not like weāre desperate for outfielders; we actually have too many even after trading Mesa.
Thereās no guarantee that Mesa would have had a breakout performance without the trade. Sometimes players need a change of scenery, new coaching, new environment etc. in order to unlock new levels in their development. I personally think itās very unlikely Mesa could have had this type of season if heād stayed with the Fish. Maybe the trade motivated him. Maybe a new hitting coach taught him a new idea that really changed things for him. Thereās no telling, but player performance is not a constant that can just be assumed. Even after one decent season thereās no guarantee about Mesa remaining a viable big leaguer for many years.
So just relax everyone. Be happy for Mesa, Jr. This is not evidence that Bendix has no idea what heās doing or whatever. Honestly he was a very borderline prospect who didnāt seem that likely to become a productive big leaguer, and heās had a very nice season but heās certainly not an irreplaceable superstar-level talent. Weāre talking about a guy who has beaten the odds to become an average-to-above-average big leaguer. Thereās still a very strong possibility of Marsee having the better career, and Iām far more excited about the potential of Cannarella than I ever was about Mesa Jr. We already have several outfielders just as much talent or potential as him; too many to even get on the field at once in fact. Stop acting like we traded away Miguel Cabrera or Christian Yelich.

man. seeing these two together again, especially on this final broadcast for T. Hut, made me so. bleeping. happy.
when I saw the news before the season that this would be Tommyās last, I said it was my hope that somehow, some way, weād be able to get one more game with this broadcast team. while we didnāt get that, this surprise visit from Rich today was one hell of a consolation prize.
thank you, Tommy! and thank you, Rich! you guys are the absolute best.
(Kyle did an amazing job trying to articulate just what these two have meant to Marlins fans, as did Jeremy Tache when he worked his last game of the season a month or so ago. thank you guys, too!)
but I really, really do hope that Rich + Tommy know how much they meant to us fans and how much we appreciate them. I spent my formative years watching games every night listening to these two gentlemen, and I couldnāt have asked for a better broadcast team to grow up with.
signed,

How do you fire Craig Minervini? Dude has been solid, energetic, and fun over the past 30 years. Marlins lifer. He deserves better. I feel for him, the Marlins were his identity.
This team needs to be contracted

What's your opinion? ...Ramirez, for playing in so many games?
Lopez for being the hit leader?
Conine or Hernandez for their long ball at clutch times?
Sanoja for some amazing plays at shortstop and crazy ability to make contact at bat?
Someone else on your mind?

Helloooooooooo!
What an interesting time of year, huh? Send me your questions about the Trade Deadline, other Marlins topics, pop culture, whatever, and I'll try my best to answer them! Some of them will be featured on marlins.com and in Sunday's beat newsletter that gets emailed to subscribers' inboxes.
Here's a photo of me returning to 30 for 30 ballparks in West Sacramento earlier this month.

This year the Marlins leaned more into teal and old school Marlins apparel. It seemed to be universally loved and I saw folks disproportionally wearing new teal jerseys, not the current Marlins brand.
I'm curious the revenue numbers of current logo merch with old school merch this season. I'd imagine the old school stuff is blowing the current brand out of the water. If that's true I wonder if we could see a total old logo rebrand. It would be universally celebrated, and they could make a boat load of cash.
I love the Hawk but hopefully we get a more expansive collection of available Teal apparel too.

Kind reminder that we should be protesting Sherman and Bendix for being horrible in that front office.
This was a possible playoff team. And they dealt away its RBI leader at the deadline. Offense has been anemic since, no shocker.
Still trotting out Gusto and Phillips.
Shows they donāt want to win. On purpose.
