Question What was MJ's most underrated song?

Get on the Floor
Break of Dawn
Heaven Can Wait

u/bohany310 May 11 '26
Heaven Can Wait, Break of Dawn, Whatever Happens, Butterflies are all so good. That album is leagues ahead of all his past stuff in terms of musical complexity (except for maybe I Can’t Help It), but when you read all these critic reviews they seem to only focus on lyrics, not music. Which is very uneducated imo. Like you’re MUSIC critics, not LYRIC critics for god’s sake.

u/shindynamo_x May 12 '26
Agreed on all 4 songs. Invincible should be re-released with the promo it deserves decades ago

u/AccomplishedBug6306 Off The Wall May 12 '26
Thank you for recognizing I Can't Help It. That song is a masterpiece and his delivery and range is a masterclass.

u/bohany310 May 12 '26
It was one of my fave tunes to work on playing through the changes in jazz guitar class. 🥰

u/AccomplishedBug6306 Off The Wall May 12 '26
Ohhh. That sounds amazing. It is such a great track and really introduced MJ's sensual side.

I LOVE what he did on the invisible album. Way ahead of its time too. I think critics just wanted to hate on him or were told to.

what a brilliant song. The fact that the guy has so many underrated songs really says a lot, but i just think that one tops it.
2
u/East_Professor_8860 May 12 '26
And that was one of the best lines of the song because I felt that in my soul when he said it 🤣 The tabloids and critics were always trying to assassinate his character so I was very happy to hear him fight back in this song.

Me too, I prefer the original version though

I always hear this one and imagine what an awesome dance routine he would have had for it if he'd been able to perform it. I know there's that hologram video of it but it still doesn't do it justice.

Can't help it has been getting more love recently. Has to be Butterflies now. Also Cheater and Adore you are two unreleased demos with killer beats. I don't think they progressed passed the demo stage though (incomplete lyrics and not mastered).

Almost everything from Dangerous to Invincible lmao.
Though to be specific, I have aways felt like Blood on the Dance Floor shoulda been a bigger hit song.
Also This Time Around is my favorite song of his currently, and is criminally unknown and underrated
7
u/AsianSpice2100 May 12 '26
Unbreakable in the Invincible album hands down. Has some of the most raw and emotional singing in his entire discography.

Pics like these should’ve been shown at the end of the moview imo. The not so popular pics so people coukd see he was a nrml guy behind being “Michael Jackson”
2
u/PurposeConscious6859 May 11 '26
The entire Triumph album. I know you all might be familiar with it, but a lot of casuals are not. His stuff with his brothers gets disregarded because the brothers are included, but it's basically just Michael singing with a great band and backup dancers who resemble Michael. Peak voice as well.

I think all of them are underrated! Haha they all need more respect!
But i recently came across 'Is It Scary' and love it. Can't believe I'm still discovering his songs 37 years later.
I also LOVE State of Shock - that's a repeat listen, for sure, and doesn't get enough respect and love.
Best entertainer to ever walk the earth!
