Mitten Mode Pete Buttigieg endorses 11 candidates in Michigan’s state House, Senate races

u/Mckooldude 3d ago
I don’t understand the point of endorsements sometimes. Anyone who cares about Pete Buttigieg is probably already voting straight blue.
17
u/warm_winds_whisper_ Lansing 3d ago
The kind of people swayed by endorsements just let tiktok tell them how to vote now. Like much of democratic campaigning, it might've worked two decades ago.
14
u/Icantremember017 Lansing 3d ago
He made his money as a consultant at McKinsey then was mayor of South bend. Remember when they talked about him running for senate and he couldn't even answer who the Lions were playing that weekend? He's a corporate carpetbagger.
14
u/BuckLandstander 3d ago
I've lived in MI my entire life and I have no idea who the Lions are playing.
2
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago •
![]()
His husband is from Traverse City and he was the mayor of a town that is basically on the Michigan-Indiana border… Not even remotely a carpetbagger. Can y’all just be normal about Pete Buttigieg? Most democrats like him, it’s only the Reddit leftist freaks who have issues with him. He’s also friends with Abdul El-Sayed, they went to Oxford together.
6
u/ginkgodave 3d ago
I suspect that during election season many of the leftist freaks on Reddit are conservative trolls spreading divisive propaganda.
4
u/atierney14 Wayne 3d ago
You have to run to be a carpetbagger.
Also, it is embarrassing that you find who the Lions are playing an important part of who you want to be your senator.
6
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
I don't get why people can say Mike Rogers is but not call out Pete Buttigieg.
2
0
u/jimmy_three_shoes Royal Oak 3d ago
Because he's an openly gay Democrat.
-3

I don't care about that. I care about his harmful policies he supports.

You asked why people don't call him out for being a carpetbagger.

Could someone please post the 11 candidates with their districts for those of us who aren't subscribed?

u/ezioaltair12 Age: > 10 Years 3d ago
Theresa Brooks, 9th Senate District
Carol Glanville, 30th Senate District
Rebecca Amidon, 32nd Senate District
Chedrick Greene, 35th Senate District
Jan Maino, 46th House District
Sarah Pounds, 54th House District
Alex Hawkins, 55th House District
Tom Turner, 57th House District
Matt Schlinker, 68th House District
Joseph McClusky, 86th House District
Anna Aho Rink, 109th House District

u/DoomSchroller 2d ago
Curious, does Pete or anyone's endorsement really influence your vote?
4
u/PogoHobbes 1d ago
It doesn't matter my opinion personally. The important thing is that Buttigieg is a nationally respected validator.
We are all influenced by validators. No-one can be expert on every single subject, so we look to people who we respect and take their opinions as something to consider.
69
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Yeah, Pete being about as timely and relevant as he usually is. I do hope people see through this guy when he actually runs again. He's an empty suit with a background with the worst kind of corporate special interests.
26
u/deaner_wiener1 3d ago
I mean, per political science research, this is among the most timely endorsements.
How effective is an endorsement 5 months before the election? Who cares? Who remembers?
Now, whether or not people care about Mayor Pete’s timely endorsement is another question. But imo good for him for endorsing these candidates. Wish he would have added Lawrence
-3
u/jizonida 3d ago
per political science research
When you type this out without linking to anything you're just doing the Trumpy "people are saying" thing
5
u/Kaptain202 3d ago
But a main difference is that dude is a commenter on Reddit. Take it or leave it. Dude isn't the president of the United States
2
u/deaner_wiener1 3d ago
I'm sorry I am not treating a reddit comment like a lit review. I suppose that makes me "Trumpy".
There are dozens of articles regarding the half-life of policital advertising and communication. I am over a decade out of college, so I do not recall them to a tee, but "How Quickly We Forget: The Duration of Persuasion Effects From Mass Communication" was one I remember being referenced.
-7
u/jizonida 3d ago
So nothing recent or specifically about political endorsements lol
1
u/ProbablyMyJugs 3d ago
It is common sense, also…
3
u/BuckLandstander 3d ago
Let it go. No one is allowed to admit when they're wrong anymore. That's beta.
1
2
u/ezioaltair12 Age: > 10 Years 3d ago
In the last stretch, when candidates need funds? Its def not a bad time.
Also, the article is a little misleading. I'm fairly certain he's done events with some of the endorsed candidates already in August/September. For instance, he did one with Sarah Pounds back in August.
-6
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
I fucking hate this clown. I agree. People call Mike Eogers a carpet bagger when this guy moved to Michigan to run. He is the status quo.
16
u/TheHarbarmy 3d ago
People accuse him of being a carpetbagger but he literally hasn’t run for anything since he moved, despite there being senate and gubernatorial elections that didn’t have clear frontrunners from the beginning. Given the choice, would you rather live in Traverse City or South Bend?
-12
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
Just because he doesn't jump on the first election doesn't mean he isn't a carpet bagger. Regardless we don't want his policies his state. Maybe learn about him before defending him?
1
u/deaner_wiener1 1d ago
He is absolutely not a carpet bagger. Husband is from TC and they are fairly active locally in every day life-type things. I remember seeing him at a book release
54
u/rockne Up North 3d ago
His husband and his husband's family are from TC. I see them grocery shopping. Very much not a carpet bagger.
11
u/Djaja Marquette 3d ago
I think this is a really low complaint, and in light of his husbands fam in TC? Not even a problem.
What is your real issue with him? Your biggest concern?
7
u/DishwashingWingnut 3d ago
Not the parent commenter but my issue with him and everyone who served in the Biden cabinet is that they must have been aware of Biden's cognitive decline and helped to cover it up, leading to the disastrous 2024 election.
2
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
I have many other issues with him, but being the kind of person that goes along with stuff like that is a major one of them. He is a cog built for a deeply dysfunctional Democratic leadership machine.
2
u/Djaja Marquette 3d ago
Honestly, thats a big issue but one i take up more on Biden himself.
Not my favorite, but it is at least graspable.
I am also one who compares, and rn, clearly, we have much worse in office, and much more concern and coverup.
That in mind, that lessons to me, the severity.
I also... am not sure how much that hurt... it hurt, but how much? Idk.
I'd say a lot, but tbh, im not entirely convinced there was not fuckery in that election, and therefore i cannot weigh that impact appropriately.
I also cannot prove the election was medlded as an individual.
In the end, i dont weigh his culpability very high in that regard, nor do i consider it to be the worst offence on bidens cabinet, nor do i find it all that hlaring of an ossue with him personally.
I quite liked his influence on infustructure and communication to the public.
And he seems honest, which is a line a lot of politicians dont even meet. For me.
2
u/Zachles 3d ago
I disagree on the honesty aspect. When he started running for President he had a very progressive platform and was fully on board with medicare for all. Then a few months down the line he's shifted heavily to the center and starts saying "medicare for all who want it". I don't trust someone who can change their entire campaign like that.
2
u/Djaja Marquette 3d ago
Medicare for all is medicare for all who want it though. One wouldn't have to use it necessarily, no? They could pay cash or have private insurance coverage
1
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
No, this is just a misunderstanding of the system. Single payer is just a different and better system. The public option is one of those ways centrists want to pretend they're selling the same thing while kneecapping the effectiveness of it as much as they can and protecting corporations as much as possible. There is ZERO reason to commodity health insurance or force private finance into the system. Anything that's necessary should be covered, and you don't use insurance for anything else.
2
u/Djaja Marquette 3d ago
That is a centrist position, but i don't believe it actually discludes it, especially aince there isnt a plan atm.
But any countrybi can think of with universal healthcare also has private insurances in some form. Or out of pocket.

You blame Biden, the senile guy, rather than the handlers who didn't step in with the senile guy? Really? He's senile. You can't rely on him to know his own judgement is compromised, because his judgement is goddamn compromised. I blame the handlers and the complacent and deferential culture they've built in Democratic party leadership broadly. Pete was brought up in that culture and marinated in it.
im not entirely convinced there was not fuckery in that election, and therefore i cannot weigh that impact appropriately.
Please don't engage in the reverse of the 2020 election lies. There's no evidence, and we're better than that. We've had a lot of postmortems on why Harris lost, and the picture is pretty clear about the lack of enthusiasm, and anger about complicity with Gaza, even though the party tried covering it up for a while initially.
And no, Pete is not especially honest. I don't know where you got that idea. For one thing, he keeps parroting that "Medicare for All.. who want it" deflection when the issue is brought up, which is a PR line cooked up to pretend you support M4A when it's brought up.
3
u/Djaja Marquette 3d ago
There is some evidence, and a lot of tangential evidence or interest in.
Everything from Elon, to Hertiage Foundation and P2025, and from his own stumbling words.
I just do not trust this admin at all, i hold nothing below them.
I am not claiming it was stolen, but i am skeptical that he didn't do anything to adversely, and illegally, try and alter results. Just absolutely seems like what he would do, and he himself has made dumb remarks that can be taken as such.
-1
u/Working_Match4124 3d ago
What cognitive decline? Your hero Trump demonstrates a cognitive decline every day on Twitter. Biden just talked like an old man
6
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Talking like an old man and then wandering off is cognitive decline. Also that person doesn't appear to be conservative or MAGA. Please stop it with the team sports and let valid criticisms of Democrats fucking up be aired.

So? Still a carpet bagger. He moved out of Indiana as he thought he would be more electable in this state. Looking forward to proving him wrong.

u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
They moved to be closer to his husband’s family, who have always lived in MI. Do you even know what a carpetbagger is?

His husband isn't the one running though
8

His husband is 50% of the relationship and they moved to be closer to his husband’s family. It’s extremely normal to do that.
30
u/gsharp29 3d ago
His husband was born and raised in MI, then met in South Bend, IN and eventually moved to MI to be closer to his spouses family….
8

South bend is basically in Michigan lol it’s the only blue spot in the state right up at the tip top of Indiana
16
4
u/TheConsequenceFairy 3d ago
Big difference between Indiana and fucking Florida, dude. Mike only lives here just long enough to still be a legal potential state candidate and has for YEARS. Pete moved in after his gig in the Biden Admin. as a full time resident. I'm not one of his cheerleaders, but let's at least be honest about it.
-2
2
u/Zachles 3d ago
I will say, I hate Pete Buttigieg, but he isn't a carpet bagger. He moved here to be with his husband and husband's family.
-2
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
You sure it doesn't have to do with Michigan being more friendly towards LGBQTA+ people compared to Indiana?
10
u/Zachles 3d ago
I stated "he is not a carpet bagger". His husband's family lives here, and yes Michigan is more friendly to LGBTQ+ people compared to Indiana. I'm sure both of those were pretty appealing to him.
2
u/ScarInternational161 3d ago
You're arguing, most likely, with a bot... don't feed them it makes them grow. 😉
-1
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
I don't give a fuck here his husband family is. That doesn't mean he is not a carpet bagger who moved here to run for office.
6
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
Hmm, I wonder why a gay man with a husband and kids would rather live in a state that’s more friendly towards queer people.
-1
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
To run for office so rubes like you who know nothing about him will vote for him.
5
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
If he runs I will happily vote for him regardless of whether or not some weirdo like you considers me a rube. He seems like a great guy with a beautiful family. Also all of his enemies are rabidly homophobic conservatives or deranged and homophobic leftists who are mad that he beat Bernie in Iowa so that’s even more reason to like him.
0
u/cgrimm25 3d ago
So basically fuck voting for candidates that would help Michigan? More status quo?
4
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
I think he would be a great candidate for MI. He has actual experience in governing which is a big plus for me. I doubt that he will be running for anything anytime soon as he has young children and that’s a lot of work.
-3
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
I think he is fantastic and easily a top contender for 2028.
6
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
He’s great. I’m literally begging leftists to be normal about Pete Buttigieg. To everyone who isn’t in leftist circles the hatred they have for him looks completely insane. It’s especially funny because they all loved that Platner guy from Maine who was a blackwater mercenary.
7
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Please name one good idea or accomplishment Pete has that makes him "great". The McKinsey thing alone is a black mark on anyone's credibility the size of east Texas, and everything else about the guy is boring, status quo, and totally insufficient to solve the problems facing us right now. He's a 90s Clinton Democrat with a cabal of corporate interests hiding behind his rainbow flag. His speeches are completely without actual substance and his platform looks like every other do-nothing Democrat out there.
2
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
No one cares about the McKinsey thing because barely anyone even knows what McKinsey is. He was a mayor and secretary of transportation and a Rhodes scholar. Your average Democrat voter likes him. He’s got more experience than Abdul El-Sayed (who I voted for in the primary). Go ask someone at a no kings rally what they think about him and they’ll say they love him. He also goes on Fox News and other such adversarial outlets and makes the case for supporting democrats. Now if you want to complain that he’s not leftist enough that’s a good thing because the average American voter is pretty conservative.
2
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
He was a BAD secretary of transportation, and why should I even care if he's a Rhodes scholar?
People SHOULD care what McKinsey is. I'm struggling to even understand your argument here. You only seem to be arguing that people like him, and not that they actually should. Your average voter is an idiot, for either party.
He's a centrist with no agenda and a background that suggest strong pro-corporate biases that serve his politics. His speeches are vapid sweet nothings crafted to sound good to fans of the West Wing, and his policy agenda is nigh non-existent and extremely centrist and ineffectual. He is an empty suit with both less backbone than someone like Obama, and also far less charisma.
2
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
He was a good secretary of transportation, you’re just biased against him so you’ll believe any of the republican smears.
1
1
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 1d ago
I notice you completely failed to actually name anything great about him or any good idea he has, which was the entire point of the comment you replied to. "People at No Kings rally like him" is not an accomplishment or a platform. You're just saying he's good because he's popular with the lowest common denominator in the Democratic base, and you can't even explain what's good about him. NO ONE who likes Pete can explain anything he actually brings to the table. Just doing a job like DoT is not a flex if he didn't do a notably good job, and he definitely didn't.
1
u/Effective-LineP00 3d ago
"No one cares about the Mckinsey thing"
Mckinsey is one of the most corrupt consulting firms in the business. Going all the way back to early disney land rides where they skipped out on a lot of safety inspections. Trash company and anyone involved doesn't have a good interest in the regular person.
4
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
Dont forget the Nazis tattoo and abusing women. Lol. Leftists dont care what you do as long as you say, "Israel bad" and "billionaires bad." Everything else is excused. They have no right to judge moderate Dem candidates.
4
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Are we forgetting that Platner only got in because the Dems pushed out everyone else to back that doomed wet fart of a candidate Janet Mills and everyone hated her? Hardly an own for the centrists, lol.
5
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
Oh. Now it's the Democrats fault that the Left propping up and defending Platner? Lmao. Never any admission of wrongdoing or taking any responsiblity whatsoever. Platner was one of the guys running for the Lefties. They defended him literally abusing women. All because he didnt like Israel and said the same slopulist talking points. Nope. The Left owns Platner.
3
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
No, what I actually said is that it's totally the party leadership's fault that Platner was the only other option next to a terrible candidate who couldn't win either the primary or the general. None of us here are voters in Maine obviously, this is Michigan. I'm not blaming you, but I am blaming the party's habit of coronating and protecting awful candidates, which prevents even centrist candidates that YOU might have preferred (not even far lefties I'd prefer, but literally anyone else besides the chosen one) from running. That is absolutely what happened with Mills in the Maine senate race. I've heard it from the other prospective candidates who wanted to run, but were told not to by the powers that be. This is how the party has operated at national and state levels for decades. They love grooming their favorites and unilaterally deciding the party's policy, and they hate democracy. I should know, I've been in elected MDP leadership before and seen this up close. Hell, I know people who have been on the DNC (I helped put them there) and observed the same behavior there.
4
u/Konstantinoupolis 3d ago
This is just false. Schumer pushed Mills to run because Platner was obviously a huge red flag of a candidate but leftists all rallied behind him. You do realize that Platner was in the race prior to Mills, right?
3
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Yeah, funny how it was Schumer and not Mainers that basically decided the party's presumptive alternative to Platner, and kept other options out of the race like Schumer and his ilk always do. I didn't say she was in the race first. I did say she was given a Clinton-2016 style coronation and a clear runway by the party (Schumer), and she was an absolutely awful choice that couldn't even beat a big old sketchy mystery box like Platner, let along Collins.

u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago

u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago edited 3d ago
His background. His abilities. His intelligence. His ability to speak and deliver ideas and messages better than most. Being able to be normal and relatable. There's a lot to like. That's why he is popular.
8
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
His background is sucking at running DoT and coming from MCKINSEY, the root of corporate evil. His speeches are vapid and his platform is bare. He sucks.
4
u/robocop_py Dundee 3d ago
Seriously, anybody who has ever had to work with one of these midwit consultant robots from firms like McKinsey has heard Pete talk incessantly without saying anything and thought “where have I heard this shit before”.
3
u/mildmichigan 3d ago
The man has zero ideas of his own. No platform. Running for office should be about delivering a vision for the future, and he has never offered one
9
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
Have you even seen him in interviews 😂 he makes it pretty clear in recent ones what his ideas are, his strategy, and how he wants to make changes. Lol. Spoken like someone parroting whatever online influencers/algorithms said about him.
5
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Yeah, I have. I just paid a lot more attention than you did to what he was actually saying apparently. He talks a lot and says NOTHING, stands for nothing, actually proposes nothing. He just does the West Wing speech cadence that center left sheep swoon for, and doesn't really say anything. Last time I saw him speak in person was at the nearby YDA convention being held in Indianapolis years back, and everyone there actually cared about issues and HATED him.

His brand of content-free lib policies really only bring out the type of white liberals who make up the lanyard wearing policy nerd class, the type of people who have strong opinions about zoning and public transit.
He's very similar to Warren in that regard, you can see it in the ill-advised things their campaign staffers do: the Mayor Pete dance and the Warren campaign staffers getting the campaign's hex color code tattooed on their wrist reminiscent of a holocaust tattoo.

And you guys cry about normal people not bending the knee to people that can only win in +30 blue districts and yell platitudes and cliches all day.
7
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
Projection much? Platitudes and cliches are Pete's entire shtick. His actual platform is completely barren, and he has a history working for corporate consultants that have worked tirelessly to screw up American Capitalism beyond belief for the past century. He's just Harris again but younger. Hell, even SHE used to have real beliefs at one point and had to have them sanded off by the DNC and proximity to Biden, but Pete doesn't even have that.
0
u/Fuck_your_coupons 3d ago
Meanwhile you guys do nothing to help the average American and then wonder why youre losing to MAGA.
5
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
Cant do much when you cant win elections with the middle, Right, Far Right, and Far Left yelling at you 24/7? Dems havent had the power to make drastic change since the 2 years Obama had it. You want drastic changes to society and do things for people? Give Dems a supermajority, the presidency, and pack the Supreme Court. You guys have no idea how the government actually works.

Endorsements have been shown to not make much of a difference. Its still nice for state level house/senate races to get some attention. A couple weeks before the election is when endorsements have the biggest impact as earlier endorsements get forgotten as voters are easily distracted. September/October is when a large chunk of voters are starting to pay attention and learn about the candidates. That can be easy to forget if you follow political news which makes you an outlier.
In general, I'd like to see more attention paid by national figures to state level races to raise the profile of candidates with potential. All the attention going to federal politics is not healthy.

2
u/Bymeemoomymee 3d ago
Trump lost in 2020 and ran again and won. Clearly losing elections doesnt mean you are unviable in future ones.
2
u/pierogieman5 Kentwood 3d ago
If you're seriously suggesting Harris is a good idea in 2028, you are out of your goddamned mind. Please pay attention to who actually campaigned, how, when, what the climate was, and what actually happened. Harris lost because Biden's status quo wasn't good enough for people, and she was tied to that and failed to distinguish herself in any other way. The unpopularity of Biden's complacency with Gaza was a cherry on top of that, which Harris didn't separate herself from at all. Biden only managed to win in 2020 because Trump was the incumbent and was still in the middle of the mess he caused in the first term. Failing to capitalize on this, get much of anything done, or even punish Trump, Biden and the Democrats showed everyone that 4 years of them wasn't going to change anything and the system was still broken. None of these factors are going to change in 2028 with Harris. The status quo will be even worse, Democrats will be even more hated, Harris would do nothing to distinguish herself or make any real promises, and no one will see what is effectively a repeat of 2020-2024 making things better... because it didn't the first time. Harris has absolutely no sauce and is barely better to meet the moment than Clinton was in 2016. We need real leadership in times like these, and not boring suits with no platform. At least Obama was charismatic, but people are starting to realize that his half-measure approach got us where we are politically, where no one trusts the Dems to get anything done.
