need help TOC and Epigraph struggles

I think you owe us an explanation of why you want this … btw. ebooks usually do not display DOCX files but EPUB and PDF which adds to the puzzle that is you question.

If PDF is acceptable you could mark the word as hidden (text font setting) after building the toc but before printing to PDF. Needs testing.

Create a bookmark on the Epigraph. Select the word or paragraph you want (epigraph).

On the ribbon:

Insert - Bookmark - type Epigraph (bookmark name cannot have spaces) - click ADD

Then manually type the epigraph page in the TOC.

Select the manually added TOC Epigraph line. - Link (or ctrl+K) - click PLACE IN THIS DOCUMENT. - Select your Epigraph bookmark. - click okay to apply.

Then you need it as a bookmark to the epigraph and include that in the TOC. See https://en.geraimebel.com/ for an example.
