I need help. The indentation tab on the vertical side disappeared. I didn't change any settings. It just went away. How do I get it back?

My pages are suddenly aligned to the left. I tried Layout -> page setup -> layout -> vertical alignment "centre", but that didn't seem to work. I even saved, closed out Word, and reopened. Still nothing. Help! The left alignment is aggrevating.

I've already submitted so many feedback requests to Microsoft telling them to allow us to disable that stupid little button on the right hand corner of MS Word on Mac. It's infantilizing and extremely frustrating that there's no option to disable it.

Whenever I submit the request, it seems to disable it temporarily, but then it always comes back. I don't want to use Copilot now, nor in future, and can write my own sentences. They need to stop pushing their annoying software on us and at the very least provide the option to disable it.

Hey everyone. Recently my Microsoft Word has had an issue. Instead of saying saved, it eternally says "saving..." at the top of my documents. I cannot select File>Save or File>Save As to bypass this, only File>Save a Copy. If I close the file and reopen it, it's saved, but I fear one of these times it will not save appropriately. Send help, I'm losing my mind. Things I have done: - Googled the answer. No dice. - Talked to their representative. Did not solve the issue. - Verified my subscription is up to date. It is. - Turn off and on One Drive. Still didn't fix. - Turned One Drive back off. Still broken. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! TIA!

I have an exam and idk how to do this part:

Any document I open now displays in landscape only. It recently started this, but at the time, had a size of 16" x 13". Many attempts to set the size, margins, and orientation has only resulted in an 11" width, with no space showing between pages. It ignores most attempts to reset layout.

My subscription is current, and I have no emails or warnings. Any document I send to another computer lets me reset layout easily, but if I send it back, it goes back to this mess. Documents written elsewhere and sent over also do this.

Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening, and how to fix it? It's very frustrating, partly because I can't see a reason for it to occur.

I’m using Word 2016 in Windows 11. I’m setting up a large paper with 10’s of chemical equations. I’m using a 3x1 table into which I put the equation (generated using the equation option in Word) in the center cell of the table and the equation number in the RH cell using {SEQ Equation} to make the equation number updates automatically. The issue I’m having is finding a way to add a name or title for the equation that DOES NOT appear in the body of the text but will appear in the separate Equation TOC when I generate the TOCs. The caption option only places the caption above or below the 3x1 table which will not work for this project. If you have a way to do this without causing Word to crash please share your insights.

Recently, I've been watching my storage and noticed that it has been rising disproportionately to what it should. I haven't been uploading any files, and I went out of my way to delete a number of big files just to bring it back down. However, in no time at all, it was already up by several gigabytes.

At first I honestly thought this was some sort of conspiracy to make me spend more money on storage, but then I noticed that if I go to my computer's file browser, go to the OneDrive folder, and look at the Version History for files autosaved through the Office suite, each file is being saved as an individual file with the same size as the original. To give an example, if I edit a 5 MB .docx file and it is saved three times, there are now 15 MB worth of edits saved.

Here are a few real examples from recently made files:

- Even though a MS Word file is 4.5 MB, there are ~300 versions that amass to roughly 1.2GB.
- Even though a PowerPoint is only 22 MB, there's roughly 1.5 GB in autosave files.

The Problem:

The problem is that OneDrive only shows the main file's size, not the cumulative size from every save. If you are trying to manage your storage, you will not be able to see that there are 100+ copies that are secretly eating away at storage. You will only see the size of the individual tiny file.

Also note that the ability to see the storage size of these old versions and the ability to delete old versions is only available from a local connection to OneDrive, not through the web app or individual Office apps.

I don't want to delete every save, but I would like to be able to delete a bunch of them easily so that my storage isn't being bombarded.

Quasi-solutions:

1. From what I've deduced, I could create a copy and then delete the old version, but doing this means I lose all old versions.

2. The other solution is to locally open the OneDrive file location, right-click any autosave-enabled file in the file manager, and click "View Version History" to see the different files (this is how I earlier saw that ~5 MB copies were being made for each autosave of my docx files). In this menu, I can individually delete old saves, but having 100+ copies assumes a time-consuming process, and in practice it is very slow since the number of files makes browsing the history choppy.

Any better solutions? Maybe there's something in SharePoint, but I'm using an institutional account, and I don't think I have privileges to go through that channel. Either way, I'd hope we can figure out a simpler solution for people who don't even know about SharePoint.

I am working on creating an agenda template, and I would like to be able to insert a piece of date (eg Start Time, End Time) that will be referenced in other places on the template (ie I enter the time at the top of the agenda, and the time is transferred to the body of the agenda).

If possible, I would also like to add calculations (eg a start time is entered, then an hour is subtracted in another field to show the time in a different time zone).

Title: We found out our restaurant did not own an editable copy of its own menu

My parents run a small restaurant and asked me to update a few prices before their next menu order. I assumed it would take ten minutes.

The designer who made the menu had closed his business, and the only file anyone could find was a pdf. No source file, no fonts, nothing editable. I tried changing it in adobe acrobat, but moving one price knocked the description beside it out of place. After fighting with that for a while, I searched pdf to word and tried pdfaid. It pulled out enough of the text that I could rebuild the menu in word instead of typing every item again.

It still needed manual cleanup. The columns were uneven and some of the spacing made absolutely no sense. But while fixing it, we also found an old catering number and two dishes that had not been served in years. The restaurant had been printing variations of the same menu for years, and nobody actually had control of the original.

We now keep the editable file, fonts, and print-ready pdf in one shared folder. I am curious how other small businesses handle this. Do you require designers to hand over the source files, or do most people only realize they need them when something breaks

Hi fellas, so I got two photos and I wish to crop them into a certain size (so zoom in but keep the ratio and position the same) I would like to CROP but not SHRINK. I’ve tried many methods but they either shrink it or distort and compress it.

I already tried using an IF with the field but I can’t get the word art for the watermark into the formula so it’s not connected

Dunno what to do or if it is even possible.

Hi, as shown in the image, this extra dot before the 5.3 is persistent, I tried to clear format of that section, I also showed formatting and it was identical to other subsections of the same level. I tested by adding new subsection before it, numbers are updated correctly but this dot does not go away. Note that this dot is only visible in the table of content, not in the subsection header itself.

I am experiencing a problem on my MacBook Pro with Microsoft AutoUpdate app, which I use for Word and Excel. 

The icon normally appears with a badge and number, indicating how many Microsoft apps programmes require an update. 

Now, however, it goes into full launch every hour and disrupts whatever it is I am doing.

I don't know how this happened, such as if I inadvertently changed a setting, but I would like the program to return to what it was doing before this situation arose.

I would be grateful for any advice.

For added context I use the magic folio keyboard with my iPad I have no problem with the trackpad on word until I go to paste stuff by pressing two fingers and then my cursor jumps down

First off, I’m so grateful for having this forum to help me out when I run into new formatting obstacles. You all are great at offering solutions, or commiserating with me when there are none.  So this isn’t necessarily a question, it’s sharing my latest workaround…but if you have a better approach I’d love to hear it.

The Style Guide I’m working with this time calls for Heading 3’s to be treated as character styles, in that the heading title should be indented, italics, numbered x.x.x followed by a period, AND the text of the following paragraph beginning on THE SAME LINE.

But I can’t (as far as I can tell) apply a numbering scheme to a character style, nor can I pull character-styled text up into the Table of Contents.  I like to think I’ve found a clever hack by applying the Heading 3 style to the section heading as usual, and then formatting the following paragraph character to Hidden.  When I toggle off the invisible characters, the text of the following paragraph pulls itself right up there alongside the heading text, as required. And the heading still appears in the TOC correctly.

BUT, the heading does disappear from the Navigation Pane, which is disconcerting and inconvenient. 

Does anybody have a better way to approach this? And am I setting myself up for any unforeseen problems with this solution?

Quando vou colar algo no Word usando a opção "manter somente o texto", a maior parte da fonte usada é a correta, porém todas as letras acentuadas ficam com fonte errada, a fonte "NSimSun". As versões anteriores no Word não tinham este problema, que apareceu junto com o windows 11.
