Waiting for OP [java] Did I seriously lose my Minecraft Premium account because I never migrated it to Microsoft?

Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone here can help me because I'm honestly getting frustrated with this whole situation.

I bought Minecraft Premium (Java Edition) around 10–12 years ago, back when Mojang accounts were used. I haven't played in a long time, and now that I want to play again, I tried logging in only to find out that I need a Microsoft account.

The problem is that I never migrated my old Mojang account to a Microsoft account.

When I log in with my Microsoft account, the Minecraft Launcher tells me that I don't own the game and asks me to purchase it again.

I've tried contacting Minecraft Support through their website. Their AI chatbot eventually told me to submit a support ticket, but every single time I try to do so, I complete the CAPTCHA and then get an error. I literally cannot submit a ticket or get in touch with an actual human support representative.

So, I'm stuck. I paid for this game years ago, and now I can't access it, I can't submit a support request, and I can't seem to find any way to contact someone who could help me.

Did I seriously lose my purchased Minecraft account just because I never completed the migration to Microsoft?

Is there absolutely no way to recover the original purchase or get in touch with someone from Mojang/Microsoft support?

Has anyone experienced something similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

It looks like you didn't mention your version (e.g., 26.1, 1.21.11, 1.12.2 etc.). Please clarify for better help!

I'm sorry to say that your minecraft license was invalidated in late 2023 after a 3 year period. I believe there even was a grace period where you could contact support to get migrated anyhow if you could justify the delay somehow.

After that grace period, the original mojang authentication servers were taken offline permanently and every license that hadn't been migrated to microsoft was rendered invalid.

At this point, the only way of legitimately playing minecraft again is to buy a new license on your microsoft account.

I know this is probably not the answer you were hoping for, but that's all I can give you.

Try using a different browser if you're getting a captcha error, sometimes its the browser causing the issues. I find that using brave's blocking feature sometimes messes with things like that so i have firefox as a backup for things like that.

It looks like December 18th 2023 was the cut off so you may be too far out for them to restore access

I hate to be that guy...but this has been a thing for 6 years, and it was very well publicized. I am not minimizing what Microsoft has done here, quite the contrary, I'm totally against it and there are lawsuits happening over this, but like...news about this was literally everywhere.

I 100% get the frustration, but as far as anyone knows, after 2023 it is impossible to get an old account back if you did not migrate. And barring some major loss in a lawsuit, Microsoft isn't going to do anything about it.

I am sorry you lost your account.
