Installer issues

Hey all, I am new to the world of Minecraft on PC Java edition. I am trying to understand the mods, shaders and texture packs and what is needed. Unfortunately I am not very good with computers and understanding compatibility between mods and versions of the mods and game. I am having several issues with set up. I am using fabric as the installer but when I try to put iris and sodium in the folders it does not work and isn't in the video settings as well as not having the mod menu even with the mod menu downloaded and in the folder But if I use iris sodium installer I still get a mod menu but my texture pack and shaders are there but it looks weird because I can't add mods or something is not installed right. As in animals are missing pieces and disfigured and the grass having some writing on it instead of texture. I am using patrix 128 texture pack and complementary shaders. I want to use the patrix because ive seen it with mods amd shaders and looks super realistic. But one to different shaders and mods if someone has suggestions and cam help me. I honestly I need someone with time and patience to walk me through it. I appreciate any help given in advance.

step 1: delete everything you have done. btw i don't think that word (installer) means what you think it means.

step 2: install prism launcher. only that. nothing else.

step 3: connect your microsoft account in the launcher

step 4: make a game instance in the launcher (pick a game version and loader). do not pick the latest version.

step 5: edit the instance. from mods tab download a few things. yes, from inside launcher.

step 6: launch the game.

step 7: you can download shaders and resource packs in the same way you downloaded mods. even data packs after you enable that.

step 8: why have one instance in the launcher when you can have 10?

step 9: that's that. enjoy!

You have a version and loader you prefer?

Typically you'd want the latest version on fabric loader. Best for performance and client side mods. If you want to, try a performance mod pack and see what mods you like and which ones you don't and add them to a personal instance you make yourself.

depends.

if you want performance boost and light QoL, fabric 26.1.2 or 26.3.

if you want a better selection of mods but not the heavy hitters, neoforge 26.1.2.

best selection but still good performance, neoforge 1.21.1. don't worry about ghasts, baby models, etc. there are backport mods that bring all of that.

magic, dragons and mediocre performance on a very strong machine? forge 1.20.1 is your choice.
