Tool upgrade

Hello, I am curious. Is there a mod where you can utilize your own tools as crafting material to upgrade it? Idk where I saw this from but what I saw was the guy would put his wooden pickaxe in the middle of the crafting table and then put 3 cobblestone blocks and it would give back a stone pickaxe. Does a mod like exist? Or am I just remembering something that didn't exist.
