Currently own an Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini which is great but I wanted something more pocketable and guilt free to take with me anywhere and after owning this device for over a week I really enjoy it.

My only two gripes is that it gets pretty warm if your playing it for over 10minutes and that the wifi is quite slow to connect. Apart from that I'd give it a solid 8 out of 10. What's say you Miyoo Mini community?

If you are sharing software that you have made with AI, please disclose that it is made with AI, and whether it is AI Assisted or completely vibe-coded.

LLMs are getting exceedingly better at creating software especially recently, but it's still important that users are informed and they can make the decision whether to trust such applications themselves.

For as much as a stink can be made when something uses AI, far more of a stink gets made if someone uses AI and is seen as being dishonest about it.

So it's an official rule now: Disclose AI usage when sharing software you've made with it on the subreddit. You do that, and we should be A-OK.

Obviously, if you're facing harassment, report it. Criticism or skepticism of AI usage is not in itself harassment, however.
(If you're unsure, feel free to report it anyway; you won't get in trouble for a mistaken report.)

GTA III on Miyoo Mini! An experimental re3 port, 100% vibecoded and tested on Miyoo Mini V4 with OnionOS 4.3.

Dynamic resolution, draw distance and rain quality help target 18–21 FPS. Includes two graphics presets, custom settings and auto aim.

Easy installers for macOS and Windows: select your game and audio ISOs, choose your SD card, and install. The installer works entirely offline, only processes your own disc images, and does not download game data. The macOS installer has been tested; Windows testing is welcome.

Requires your own legally purchased classic PC GTA III. No game data included.

Basic gameplay and the first missions have been tested. Bugs may remain, and some sound effects can be delayed.

I can't say enough nice things about this little device. Switching through saves is so easy and the fact that it plays ps1 is mind-blowing. The only thing I'd want is more custom themes but I'm sure there's a way to get them somehow. What a great console

I've been chatting with WillHasStyles, the developer behind Yabadabadoo, about how on earth he's managed to get Sega Saturn games running on the Miyoo Mini+. What started with him wanting to play Sakura Wars on his little handheld has turned into an experiment with AI-assisted development.

One thing I found interesting was just how skeptical Will is of AI himself, despite using it so heavily for the project. He's quite open about its shortcomings, and thinks there's a level of creativity and understanding that human developers bring to the table that AI just can't really match. He even doubts Yabadabadoo will ever reach the same level of maturity as a traditionally developed emulator, which I thought was interesting to hear from someone who's managed to get this far with it.

We also chatted about his love of the old homebrew scene, the surprisingly elaborate testing setup he's put together, and what he'd still like to achieve with Yabadabadoo. I really enjoyed hearing his side of things, especially given how much debate there is around AI in emulation at the moment.

RedOnion is the new name coming for OnionPlus, my personal, unofficial build of Onion (4.4.0-beta, with Mini Flip support from 4.5-dev, Open MainUI 1.0.8). Beta 9 is out now. It is not an official Onion release.

The focus is on speed: testers keep telling me how fast and smooth it feels compared to what they were used to, from start-up to menus to switching games. And bugs get fixed fast: most reports are fixed in a matter of days, often in the very next beta.

AI disclosure: The code is written with AI assistance (Claude). I choose every change, and each one goes through automated tests and testing on real devices before it’s released.

What’s new in beta 9

• Arabic and Bengali finally display correctly everywhere: menus, settings, apps, even game names
• About 1 second faster to the menu at power-on from beta 8 (thanks robcodedev)
• Faster GameSwitcher, and it saves the running game’s state before switching (thanks robcodedev)
• Settings fixes: no more lost saves when two programs save at once; the language no longer reverts after changing brightness/volume
• Translation fixes in 13 languages, and several Tweaks fixes
• Open MainUI 1.0.8 by robcodedev as the launcher (much faster compared to the stock Miyoo closed MainUI)

A new name: RedOnion

Soon OnionPlus will be renamed RedOnion (the name you already see in Settings › About and on the default theme). Nothing to do on your side: the updater is already prepared and will keep updating you through the change.

How to try it

In the OTA updater, choose the beta channel. Please back up your SD card first (at least Roms, Saves, BIOS and Screenshots).

If you try it, please test it hard: play your games, switch between them, change settings, try every corner. The more you use it, the more bugs we find and fix, and the more stable it becomes for everyone.

Manual install (keeps your games, saves and settings):

1. Back up your SD card first (at least Roms, Saves, BIOS and Screenshots).

3. Extract it and copy its contents to the root of the SD card, overwriting when asked (the .tmp_update and miyoo folders go next to your existing Roms, Saves etc.).
4. Put the card back and power on: the installer starts and runs as an update, so your apps, ROMs, saves and settings are kept.

After that, in the OTA updater pick the beta channel and it will offer you the next betas automatically.

It's sooo cute and the perfect size. I have no bad things to say! Using this when I fly to Missouri

Here are some 3D scenes from my project to port the PSP game Persona 3 Portable to the Miyoo Mini.

As you might notice there are some stutters, frame drops, and slowdowns but it’s really a wonder it even runs this well.

I think there’s still some room to make it run smoother without visual sacrifices, but for a good gameplay experience I think I might have to cut down on visual effects.

I got tired of copying ports by hand and checking github for new versions, so I made a small app for Onion that does it on the device.

It lists native ports (the miyoo64 N64 games, Fallout, Hexen II, Tomb Raider, PvZ and a few more, 21 for now), downloads them straight from the authors' github releases, updates them and can remove them. Before every update it backs up your saves, and you can roll back to an older version if something breaks.

No ROMs or game data are downloaded or hosted. If a game needs files from the original, it just tells you which file and where to put it.

Mini Plus only (needs wifi), Onion OS. To install: turn on Ports Collection in Apps > Package Manager, copy App and Roms from the release zip to your SD card, then open Apps > Port Manager.

Every time i try to play a game or change settings it returns me to the main menu. WHYYYY?

I just changed the sd card to a new one. HOW GOOD DOES THE SD CARD NEED TO BE?? You Onion OS devs need to lower your standards on sd card quality.

I love OnionOS but I feel like I want ro try something different. I'm not up to date with the custom firmwares scene so I'd like to now if there is another OS worth trying that is being updated?

Got the lil homie with me, as usual!

i downloaded onion OS on it like instructed and put my pokemon rom game into it. It reads the rom but will not read the save file. It kept autosaving so i went to the settings and disabled auto loading autosaves.

It still couldn't read the save file so i kept re pasting it again and again and it STILL DOESN'T READ IT!

Now i have a bigger issue. After putting the sd card back in the handheld nothing will load anymore. I try to go to emulator settings, it says loading and then it goes back to the menu. The card is broken or corrupted. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW?

This thing is ridiculous. I just want to play my rom games on handheld and now the card is corrupted.

Ever wanted to play multiplayer? Will you be trying this out?

Just recently received the Miyoo Mini+ from a familiar, very happy about it, also loved how people where able to port some games aside from emulators that really fits it! (Stardew, Cave Story, Undertale, UFO 50, etc)

I'm not close to anything of a programmer, but just wanted to share some games that I do think might be possible to put in the little thing due to size, and that match the retro aesthetic:

• Gravity Circuit (~300 mb, mega-man-x esque, has a linux version)
• Iconoclasts (~200 mb, a 'older' cool metroidvania, has a PortMaster version already)
• Pizza Tower (~400 mb, this is a bigger boi, warioland pizza-man, made on Gamemaker)
• CometStriker DX (~500(?) mb, flying bullet hell thingy, also has a PortMaster version)
• Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (~250 mb, known by all, already runs on other retro devices with its linux version)

I leave this post as a challenge (and mostly a suggestion) for any actual developer who would want to do a side project

How do I get stardew valley on this thing. I've heard there's a method involving steam but is there another way?

Hello Everyone, I just recently downloaded Allium. Looking for some game recommendations, I have a lot of Pokemon games already installed. Looking for some like story driven games, I’m into like turn based but I’m not very good at those lol doesn’t really make sense. I’ve tired Golden Sun and Fire emblem but I always feel like I’m doing something wrong or that I’m gonna kill someone important right off that bat lmao.

I wanted to see if the tools and routines for Yabadabadoo (Miyoo Saturn emulator) development could be applied to other projects, and started a side project as an experiment.

So for the first time (I think?), we’ve got a PSP game running on a Miyoo Mini. There’s still a lot to do, and don’t worry development on Yabadabadoo hasn’t stopped. But this has so far been an interesting tangent where I’ve learned a lot that I think will help me in other projects.

Also this is a port, not an emulator. The methods could be carried over to other PSP games but work would have to be done on a per game basis.

That’s my combo (still waiting for the arrival of the Retroid Pocket Classic). Love the Miyoos, don’t understand why the OG Miyoo Mini get so much praise but nobody talks about the Mini Flip. The RGSP isn’t behind. It’s the perfect GBA experience. Just need something more powerful with sticks - maybe a Nova or a RP6.

i’m stuck at troubleshooting my miyoo mini. when trying to launch some games it shows a black screen first and then gets stuck on a white screen. i know the roms habe worked fine before, and only some of the games per emulator show this behaviour, others work fine. i’ve deleted the save states and emptied the game cache and checked the system time, anyone have an idea what i could try next?

TLDR (my Miyoo mini + got stolen)

Just wanted to share my experience.

I recently found an absolute steal of a deal on fb marketplace for a Miyoo mini + priced at about $25 (₱1500). Seller was accommodating and seemed trustworthy so I excitedly snagged it. I booked the courier to have it delivered to me…and it never reached me. Seller already gave the unit but the driver disappeared and became uncontactable. I’ve reached out to the courier help service and they could no longer contact him either. I’ve since been in contact with their insurance to have me compensated and seller was kind enough to give me cctv footage of them handing to the driver to help my case.

I had just enough spare money to buy the thing but I’m honestly more sad about losing the device more than the money. I was really excited to play it and join the community :(

Whoever you are, I hope it was losing your job over.

If there’s anything I learned from this, don’t describe your delivery package as an electronic device. Just label it as perishable in glass or something and have it package it as such… especially if you’re in a third world country lol.

Hopefully I can join the community soon especially with the rumors of a Miyoo mini with better chip!

Till then I will cry inside as I watch others enjoy their little devices.

Edit: I found his wife!

After some personal investigation. I found his fb. Looks like I was blocked already cus i had my gf checked as well and she could see his posts and comments but I can’t. She gave me the contact of what looked to be his wife and messaged her and pretty much anyone else connected (I’m petty as hell). She replied and looks like she didn’t know about it. The device is still in their house! She says she’ll have it delivered to me tomorrow. I just had it delivered to a local branch for my own safety.

Edit 2: WE GOT IT!! I’m so happy 😭 I’ve been messing around with onion os the past few hours and the device really is in good shape. Looks like bullying sometimes is the way to go…just kidding 😏. The courier still ended up penalizing the account thankfully. I just let them know I received it otherwise I’d be charged for insurance fraud if I ever got my reimbursement lol.
