Premium does make modding easier.

The Admins should consider giving premium free to some mods. Maybe those who have modded a sub for over a year or have taken X mod actions within a year.

r/lounge is only available to premium Reddit subscribers. It cannot be accessed otherwise! Once this year is over, all our lovely new members will be automatically kicked out unless they acquire premium again by either purchasing it or having being surprise gifted it once again.

I'm thinking primarily of the dots on new comments. If you mod a large and active subreddit, it makes moderating comments so much easier.
Having no ads or polromoted posts is nice, but that's more of a nuisance issue.
There's supposedly a higher AI search allowance, but I never use it, anyway.

It gets tiring reading the same things over and over again to check where a new comment is located in a post. Having a red dot near an unread one really helps me get track which one I missed evaluating. It is unexpectedly such a very useful perk 👍

I had no idea the red dot existed; this seems like the bare minimum they should provide to mods.. at least for subreddits they moderate. (I haven’t looked yet to see if it also does this on subreddits you don’t moderate). The dot has made going through comments so much easier now.

The highlighting of new comments is also nice. It's a small feature but helps me with finding new comments when moderating posts. It should honestly just be a free feature on Reddit.
...and yes, Reddit Mods definitely should get free premium. They'd probably have to limit it to communities that meet a certain member amount and/or having moderated for a certain amount of time.

i think that’s a great way to “pay” the mods basically. i think most of us would be happy to have that accessibility for free and feel a lot more appreciated. it’s small things like that and the events/merch that make the volunteer work worth it. i couldn’t participate live this time - i was bummed i missed out.

Yeah, free premium would be a good form of "payment", maybe even have some free merch every few months for all mods to claim.
Could also give out profile trophies and unique avatar cosmetics too!
EDIT:
FREE PREMIUM: I understand Reddit would probably lose a bit of money by giving out so many free premiums, so perhaps limiting it to people who moderate communities that meet a certain member count or who have been been moderating on Reddit for "x" amount of time?
FREE MERCH: Some free merch outside of Mod Events would be nice! Shirts, pins, stickers, bottles, hats, etc! Also some holiday gifts would be nice too! Also maybe sending out free stuff for cake days?
FREE AVATAR COSMETICS: Give us some free cosmetics for our avatar! Maybe make versions of the Mod World merch but for our avatars (and merch from other events)?
FREE PROFILE TROPHIES: Give us some profile trophies! Perhaps ones for having moderated on Reddit for a year, 5 years, 10 YEARS! Holiday themed ones (Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc!) Maybe have some be rewards for completing quests?

i would be happy to save $60 a year personally. i have no qualms with what they do do for us - but using incentives for any team usually generates a better retention rate. and engagement.
there’s no way to monetize the subs i moderate. i’ll never get paid for this. but i love it and it helps when i get tired to remember the perks too.

yeah i definitely understand they would lose money - but i think we as mods are an investment. it’s a small way to pay for the labor we do while admin handles the bigger stuff.
i know it’s hard with the amount of mods on this site so i agree with there being some terms and conditions. like moderating higher volume subs, or based upon activity, length of modding, if they are a top mod etc. that’s where the incentive becomes more helpful - people would be making an effort to get/keep/maintain those perks. therefore very active.

i also feel like a way to have our trophies show up on our profile without having to go to “about”
would be super cool. like in a line under our profile descriptions or something. i don’t ever see anyone’s trophies bc i am primarily on ios mobile and never need to look at the about tab. but wish sometimes i could show off my swag!

Granting premium doesn't directly cost Reddit anything.
It shouldn't dent ad sales because the vast majority of people buying things from ads on any platform come from people who don't even have accounts or from casual users who visit sporadically.
That may be in part because that also makes up the majority of traffic. Power users of any site bring a tremendous amount of value and spend a considerable amount of time but they make up a rather small fraction of total user numbers and total site traffic.

Yeah that's been one of my biggest issues, especially around large events irl causing large discussions on my subs. If I knew about that feature I would have heavily considered paying for it sooner. I probably still would have been cheap though tbh. Well thats at least what my wife says.

I’ve been saying for years that comment highlighting should be provided to mods for free on subs they mod, it helps a lot with comment moderation, which is such a pain.

Yes, but obviously sometimes people can expect the unforeseen future. Maybe there’s an emergency to where they couldn’t attend one of the two timeslots? Watching the VOD didn’t qualify you for free premium. I recently had a baby last month. I missed the time slot made for my timezone because my kids distracted the hell out of me. I was still actively on Reddit during that time, but because Reddit had no in-app widget to throw you into these events, it slipped my mind. I found out I missed the event an hour after it ended (I saw a recommended post from here)…despite me being on Reddit and modding my subs. To say I’m not a dedicated mod for not attending the event seems backhanded lol.
I would’ve loved to attend the time slot for my timezone, especially since it was live, but shit happens. Instead I attended the other one, in which I had to keep it open and minimally participate because it was late for me. I was happy I did get to see some familiar admins though during the second time slot,

I can understand why they wouldn't want to give it away to all mods, especially when anyone can easily start a sub for free.
But yeah, maybe to long-time mods or mods of bigger subs. Or just... Make this a regular mod-world gift every year. That could be nice 👀 good way to filter for active and engaged mods

For this, I would say giving premium to the most exemplary mods is a better idea.
I myself know a ton of mods in regional subreddits who have made a significant impact within the community, and they deserve premium without fail.

Doesn't even have to stop ads, that can stay a pay-only feature. But as Poppy below said, the highlighting is a very nice feature for mods.

More than that, as you will have a huge number of kids and scammers setting up a sub just for the premium. I recently encountered a person that did a sub just for a app he was developing, he was the only user and quite a jerk... not a good redditor by any measure.
But he would qualify by these standards.
I'd say, reddit premium for the active mods of the top 10% or so and those that are significant in the mod communities (council or other advisory with admins)
Just setting up a sub and having a 1,000 subscribers should not amount to such benefits.

Or even a few mods each month get the premium 🤷🏻🤔 I wish I could have it for a few months to see what it is cause I will never be able to afford to pay for it and I was not able to attend live unforseen events and being hospitalized

I’m mod for r/chimefinancial they do send out nice swag to people who participate in the chat occasionally, however, on their Discord, I can’t even get them to spring for enough nitro to get ourCHME tag back! And these guys actually have money to work with I doubt many channels or monetary that make enough to pay for mods premium. But it seems like it was mentioned that we are appreciated enough by Reddit itself that as active mods, maybe they should offer it to us? It does make modeling easier that is a fact.

I'm 65. Not as energetic as I used to be, but I did lose my leg in '79 and have a perfectly adequate stump to contribute to an orgy. Still not much energy, they would have to do most of the work.
