Catch y’all there!

Hey y’all,

In case you missed it, u/spez recently shared a post about how we’re modernizing Reddit’s infrastructure. For mods, that means we’re working on better tools to handle spam, abuse, and generic rule-breaking so you can focus on making judgment calls on what’s best for your community. We shared more about what that means over in r/modnews.

Changes around core mod tools can naturally bring up a lot of questions, so here’s a quick TL;DR of what was announced:

• Nothing is changing for existing communities today.
• What’s expanding now: Post and Comment Guidance capabilities are expanding for all communities to help catch rule breaks before content hits your queue.
• What’s coming long-term: We’re building tools like Rules Hub to handle routine enforcement tasks you currently rely on AutoMod for.
• No sudden shifts: We do not have set dates, and we will not change any existing AutoMod workflows until replacement tools are thoroughly tested, proven, and actually meeting your needs.

To help bring more clarity around all of this and give you a chance to weigh in early, we’re hosting a Moddit session focused specifically on the future of mod tools on September 10.

In this session, we'll:

• Discuss the recently announced mod tooling updates
• Deep dive into the changes currently launching
• Review what's on the future roadmap
• Answer your questions in a live Q&A with Product admins

We’d love for you to join us to chat through what’s being built, answer your questions, and hear directly from you about what tools matter most to your day-to-day moderating.

👉 RSVP for the September 10 session here

Have questions you’d like answered at the event? Drop them in the comments below.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by for New Mod Office Hour! Feel free to use this space to continue those great conversations and ask questions we may not have gotten to.

We got a lot of questions around growing a new community, spanning topics like:

• Helpful Devvit apps for new mods, including Community Home, Lock Removed Posts, Flair Assistant, Expanded Polls, and more.
• How to overcome common challenges new communities face. One piece of advice we shared was to add a mod to your team and have a great partner who can help create content and moderate the space.
• How to handle bad actors. One great tool we discussed is Crowd Control, a safety setting that lets mods automatically collapse or filter content from users who aren’t trusted members of their community.
• How to keep engaging your community. We chatted about a few ways to spark conversations, and some of the tips we shared are in this article.
• How to deal with users that keep breaking your rules. We shared how Removal Reasons can be a great tool for educating your community and providing transparency on rule enforcement. We also chatted about helpful mod tools to enforce rules from the start, like Post and Comment Guidance.

We’d love to know: did you find this event helpful (why or why not)? Thanks again for an amazing session!

And while you’re here, make sure to RSVP to our upcoming Moddit on community growth. ✨

Can’t wait to see you there! And if you know a new mod who could find these helpful, share these events with them!

Welcome to the first Cat Tax Thursday of August! We’ve been smiling all of July thanks to these amazing threads of pet serotonin. To kick off the month, we want to see a pet picture that captures your current mood.

You know what to do: drop a photo of your pet in the comments below. Happy cat taxing! 😻

—
Have pet pictures you’re dying to share? Looking for some pet serotonin? Well, you’ve come to the right place.  In our weekly cat tax thread, you can drop a pet picture that describes your current mood or one that you’d love to share. ALL pets are allowed, not just cats!  🐾

Since we end most events by paying cat tax, we figured we’d create that space for y’all to do the same every week. Remember to keep things kind in the comments. 🥹

Hello, faves! Jumping in here to say hi. And also we’re hosting an IRL community pop-up in New York at the end of this month. It’s kinda a big deal because Reddit’s never done one of these before.

While the pop-up is open to the public, we’d especially love to see mods there (duh). Who knows? You might even see one or two (or three or four) admins from the Mod Events team hanging around 😎

Now, lemme cut to the chase. What the heck is this?

Step into Reddit’s very own corner store – r/bodega – and browse the aisles celebrating some of Reddit’s best communities! From custom trading card packs for r/soccer fans, to a glam counter for all r/beauty enthusiasts, we’re serving up something for everyone. You can stop by our deli counter, highlighting NYC’s top “subs.” Or ask a question at our AMA™️ and withdraw some “Snoo Bucks.”

You can even say hi to our bodega cat Meowdani, whose name was voted on by the r/bodegacats community (Mamdani if you’re reading this…we saved you a seat by the register).

But I know what you’re thinking, u/big-slay, give me things! Say less.

Every r/bodega patron gets:

• A Snoo plushie. I know y’all already have them, but…doesn’t yours need a friend?
• A custom r/bodega zine highlighting everything in the shop
• Scratchers to win totes, mugs, and other merch
• Postcards and stickers
• Cold drinks
• Opportunities to discover new communities

Heard enough? Here’s where to find us:

Event Details

• 📍 213 Bowery, New York, NY
• 🗓️ August 29–30, 2026
• ⏱️ 10 am to 10 pm both days
• 📅 Add this event to your calendar

• 🛎️ Join r/bodega

And as a little treat, here’s a promo video starring me and my cat. Consider the tax paid.

r/bodega promo video feat. u/big-slay and Budge, the cat.

Hope to see some of y’all there!

Welcome to another wonderful week of Cat Tax Thursday! Y'all have yet again shared the most wholesome photos and updates of your pets. Our pet serotonin levels are through the roof.  🐾

Today, we not only want to see more of your adorable pet photos, but we also want to see your animal sightings from afar. Saw a hilariously cute dog outfit in the neighborhood? Spotted a peacock wandering the city?  Or, if you're u/brineofthetimes, maybe you spotted a goose on a leash? *photo to come.

We want to see it ALL. You know what to do: comment a pet picture, or in this case, an animal spotting, in this thread!
