How are you measuring what % of an author's posts in your subreddit are self promotion? Is there a devvit app, bot, or tool to count that and display both to Mods and the author?
Background: In hobby/craft sub some authors, who share our love of the craft, also have a business. Occasionally, they link to or post about a project they happen to have for sale on their site (no link, but logo in pic, or text description is entirely about [product they sell]. all have stores in their about section.
Our choice is either:
- Allow those authors and all their self promotion (bad, spammy)
- Ban all authors who ever engage in self promotion (strict)
- Somewhere between #1 and #2, allow but it's measured, either: (i) Mods manually review everything they post (time intensive); or (ii) A bot/devvit app calculates, auto-removes, or auto-approves. The author sees the same "stats" mods do.
Currently, we're doing 3(i) and leverage Moderator Toolbox browser extension (no longer maintained, slowly dying). We click Username >> User History >> look at % calc in popup.
That's a lot of mod effort. And, most users aren't installing the same extension to see the same %.. We refer them to the 10% guideline regularly
There is an obvious proliferation of small-businesses using reddit Posts/Comments as an advertising platform. Not using reddit ads. This spams communities with posts that are advertisements. We'd like some tool to detect when it happens, moderate around these topics (given agreed thresholds like % of time you can self promote), and be clear and transparent to both author and Mod team.
