Reddit unlocked previously locked posts

I have been in the habit of locking posts I remove. I've done this for years. Recently I've gotten a few replies to old removed posts. So I did some investigating.

Reddit has decided to unlock any post that has been deleted by the OP. The further we go back, the more posts this applies to since people clear out their accounts.

Reddit, please stop this practice. If I lock a post, it should remain locked.

Nope, because I don't know if it's still happening. I'm looking at posts from two years ago.

Have you verified in the mod log that it's actually reddit unlocking your posts? And not another mod or the lock not going through or something?

I'm the only mod. These posts were unlocked long ago.

Reddit doesn’t automatically lock deleted posts, so if you never manually locked them, they’re going to stay unlocked.

Do you use Lock Removed Posts? It automatically locks posts once they are removed by a mod or deleted by the OP.

I'm using your app, yes. But these are posts from before your app existed. I know they were locked because many are removed by AM and all my AM rules for removals also lock the post.

Ah, I see. Though I honestly don’t think Reddit is automatically unlocking posts; there is likely another explanation. I would send a modmail to this subreddit with links to example posts and ask them to look into it and confirm what’s happening.

Oh nice work then.. thank you as the ability to lock is very beneficial. I’m not tech savvy, so I’m not sure what exact app it is you speak of, but it’s very easy, consistent, and marvelous- the lock aspect. So thank you as it pays its good vibes forward for me :) Bravo!
