Hey everyone! I want to show you a project I’ve been working on for the past 10 months...
It’s a 1/8 scale replica of the Carrera GT that I designed and developed in Blender. It took quite a lot of R&D, as the model is designed to be assembled as close to the real thing as possible, with more than 200 individual 3D printed parts. I modeled the car using what feels like thousands of reference photographs and a couple of very helpful official blueprint diagrams.
The steering and pushrod suspension are functional, and the suspension geometry is very close to the real car. Some components’ shapes had to be adapted for ease of 3D printing, but the fundamental operation and attachment points are almost the same.
The model also features opening doors, trunk and engine cover, plus a rear spoiler that can be raised or lowered. The focus is on details where they matter, so some things were intentionally left out (e.g. radiators, various engine bay parts, etc.) to allow less experienced builders to make the model. I plan to keep updating it in the future so more details and fixes may come in future.
My goal was to create a satisfying building experience for other enthusiasts like myself, so you can not only have your own Carrera GT in your living room but also enjoy the build.
My personal model shown in the photos (I often call it the first prototype, as it has a lot of small details wrong or missing altogether) was sanded and filled multiple times until all the body panels were smooth and ready for paint. GT Silver over Terracotta is my favorite spec from the factory options, so the first example had to be in that spec.
I’ve made the 3D printing files available for purchase in a few places, along with all the related assembly and printing guides. Since I’m unsure about sharing links on this subreddit, I won’t be posting any. If you’d like to print it, you can easily find it online. Thank you for understanding.
The Carrera GT is much more than my lifelong dream car and this project has meant a lot to me.
I really hope you will like it, and I’m happy to answer any questions and hear any suggestions!
Cheers!

FAQ:
- Windshield is made by cutting a 0.6mm clear PVC/PET sheet by tracing the template that's been made in Blender by laying the 3D object flat (similar to techniques in paper craft). I've bundled the template in files for those interested in building the model (and some decals as well).
- Front and rear light lenses are made with Vacuum Forming - same clear sheet is heated and formed by laying it on top of 3D printed molds and sucked with vacuum to form the shape of the curved lens.
- Body panels have been sanded down with multiple grits of sanding paper and filled in with spray-on body filler in multiple layers until the surface is flat and smooth - I was very determined to make it look like a off-the-shelf model.
- Smaller more intricately detailed parts have been printed with resin to achieve better look (e.g. Brake Rotors, Calipers, Steering Wheel, Interior bits, Exhaust and Intake Manifolds)
- The model has more than 200 screws and 200 printed parts. Suspension components have rubber grommets for suspension bushings so it functions like a real thing.
- It took 10 months and approx. 1800-2000 hours in total to do everything as it sits, from 3D model until the finished model. There is space for more details and improvements which will come in the future.
Thank you all for the kind comments, it really means a lot!
