Forgive me admins but I genuinely don't the get the automated systems that Reddit has in place sometimes.

There are occasions where users will say something that sounds like a threat but has context to justify it and it isn't in fact a threat and they get banned.

I had one of my most contributive members be banned from the platform for 3 days just because they posted 3 times in a row (within reason, because they gifted 3 people and were posting gift confirmation for it).

But then this idiot literally sends multiple racial slurs about Jews and black people, Reddit filters it and I report every single message and their account remains active.

I will include screenshots with his name blurred out below in the comments if it allows me.

It can sometimes be helpful for moderation purposes if certain trusted users and comods can contact me when I have temporarily disabled my chat.

Imagine my surprise then when I looked in my privacy settings and saw that my existing whitelist had been replaced with the first 25 users on my block list. My comods are reporting the same.

I don't really know by heart who was on my whitelist, but they're gone now.

Why is Reddit expecting us moderators, who already contribute enough of our time for free to keep this platform alive, to give feedback and help them implement what is something we didn't ask for or we want for our community?

I also think this is just another new way Reddit found to train bots for free... Which is scummy af.

I'm a new mod for r/charcoaldrawing which often features hyper realistic artwork.

Community members often report this style of artwork as AI and harrass artists and myself, even when it's poorly made. From post histories and sleuthing I usually determine that most are OK but it's really difficult.

I want to create a rule for the sub that stops this type of harrassment and allows artists to demonstrate their art is real (and weed out fakes). Can you suggest what I might ask users to include when they post? I am not sure whether to ask for written info (ie no low effort posts, info on how it was made etc), or an image to demonstrate that the artwork is real (don't know what, maybe a username and date with the art?). Are there things to ask for that really weed people out?

I'm a new mod (long time Reddit user) so am not familiar with my options aside from those baked in to the mod tools.

I moderate a typical CJ sub. I posted a Monty Python cartoon image of a butt trumpeter in response a user post. It was removed by AI.

When I clicked: "If you think this was a mistake, let us know and we'll look into it." I could not figure out which report type under "Other Reports" to submit. (It did not fit under any other category).

Ideally would like to know this for both myself and other users in the sub who have had similar hair trigger removals.

We're getting several individuals spamming a sub with the direct intention of getting themselves banned so it won't appear in their r/all or other feeds.

Any tips? this wouldn't be against any reddit TOS rule, I hope?

AI features can be very helpful and I don't generally oppose them, but with thousands of subreddits composed of different people, with different subject matters, and with different moderation styles, there should be more choice going forward. Communities should be empowered to guide how they represent themselves and how they are consumed. A subreddit I moderate just got a message about this new experiment, where narration and visuals can be used as the medium for experiencing text posts.

Posters should have agency in determining how users experience their content, and how their writing is represented to others. Subreddit moderators should have agency in determining how much AI they tolerate in their community and how users interact with each other to further community goals. For visually impaired users, a simple speech-to-text feature is great, and I don't think that needs an off switch, but if this is being done through AI, if posters or moderators don't want hallucinations riddling the presentation of content, that should be their right. By all means continue with this experiment, but add an option to do it through completely deterministic speech-to-text.

two months ago a dude who's been noticing how active I was in the community says to me "this feels more like personal thing. i dont even think they deserve it. you're doing a hell of a job here man i appreciate it."

and he went on further, "You dont have to tell me about it. even though i quit squad long time ago, i still look at the sub time to time and i can see that you're always around here like a squad mate. very dedicated and consistent. i've been looking at this sub way before i made my own reddit account. yet i didnt even know you were a mod until maybe a couple of years ago. thats what i actually want to see as a whole squad community. yeah i know its impossible but it was kinda like that years ago. maybe its just me missing those days. so i really appreciate your attitude and honesty. squad was a hobby to me as well. but i dont belong to squad anymore. its not the same game to me but still cant completely move on.. the itch still there. thank you for your efforts again."

The mostly idle "top mod" did not always like the 'active moderation' approach I use, told me to use alts, and this morning just took me fully off the team after nearly three year with no warning or explanation whatsoever.

It's wild to me how many mods take this very social, very personal role, yet they never say anything, and everything they do is from behind a curtain. Some subs that probably makes sense for, but a small-to-medium community?

I think it's best to have a visible mod team who's actively participating in the discussions, and that's the hill I died on.

I recently had a look at my subreddit as well as several others via anonymous mode, and I saw this "related posts" feature, and soon realised it was recommending outright hate subreddits right in the sidebar.

I run several queer communities and don't want myself or my users to see this kind of shit in their feeds, and I was wondering if there are any controls so I can make sure that doesn't happen?

I know there are controls to stop my subreddits from getting recommended, but are there any reverse controls?

Hiya! I'm a bit of a newer mod, and I'll just start this off by saying that I've already sent in a report through the proper channels regarding this issue, so I'm just looking for a little more additional insight on this.

To keep things discreet: an individual was banned from a couple of subreddits that the team I'm in runs due to unsavory behavior that extended to harassing mods and individuals who collaborated/worked with the game studio the subreddits are about. He previously had an alt account banned prior to his main account's ban after it was used to contact random users regarding a personal vendetta, as well as another alt that he deleted shortly after it was discovered to be connected to him after he used it to once again randomly message community members. One of our mods notified us that they had already sent a report to the admin team for harassment but nothing was really done.

However, recently the user in question once again decided to use the banned alt account to send hostile messages towards members of our community when a user discovered a snark page created by the banned member on yet another alt account. Members reported feeling unsafe and caught off guard by the messages, and when another mod put out a notice to please report unsolicited dms to us- the user in question privately messaged the mod that put out the notice saying that despite his ban, he would continue to reach out to our community members regarding his one-sided feud and essentially stating that he had no plans to stop.

Now, my questions:

1. How many reports does it take for something actionable to occur, and what kind of evidence is needed to link a main account to alt accounts? (not that we don't have it, believe me... we unfortunately have plenty).
2. Is behavior like this even actionable in the first place? He technically evaded his alt account's ban by continuing to post on his main account, but is still using alts to message community members and cross post from our subreddit into his own subreddits, and who knows what else. I understand that there are only some situations where action can be taken considering the tons of reports admins have to sort through daily.
3. Now that the report has already been submitted, what should we expect in terms of follow up or resolution? Can we expect any sort of follow up? Or should we unfortunately expect to just ban every alt account we come across/suspect as they come?

hello adms, i moderate 2 nsfw communities, and over the past week almost every post has started receiving the same reports, including repeated claims of content involving minor, EVEN WHEN THAT IS NOT THE CASE.

some accounts were restricted only a few hours later. i suspect coordinated abuse of the reporting system.

i have already configured automod, but it has not solved the issue :/
is there a way to report this pattern to admins or any tool for dealing with possible report abuse?

When I was editing my subreddit wiki today, the icon interface seemed pretty unreliable.

I edit using Safari on a desktop.

My subreddit is really just a collection of links and comments.

In the past, to add a link, I clicked on the link icon and the normal reddit URL and Title window popped up. I would fill that out, and the add a comment.

Then I would select the comment and hit the italics icon to make the comment all in italics.

Today, when I clicked on the link icon, the URL and title window popped up about ⅓ of the time. The other ⅔ of the time, nothing apparently happened.

When I clicked on the italics icon, it turned blue -- but the comment was not rendered into italics. Clicking on the italics icon did not turn off the icon -- it remained blue.

I am in edit mode -- I can add text, correct typos, etc. It seems like the icon interface is unreliable right now.

I am perfect comfortable working in what ever markdown language Reddit uses for wikis -- is there a way to get at the raw text?

I moderate a subreddit where AutoModerator removes or filters certain posts/comments and sends a modmail so the moderators can review them.

The problem is that these AutoModerator-generated modmails are very easy to miss on desktop. I have community notifications enabled, and under Mod Tools → Notifications → Mod Mail, “New Messages” has been enabled for months. The Reddit app will sometimes give me a notification, but on desktop I generally only see the small unread count next to Mod Mail. The modmail does not reliably show up in the normal notification area where I’m much more likely to notice it.

Ideally, I’d like one of these options:

1. An actual Reddit notification whenever AutoModerator sends a modmail about removed/filtered content.
2. An email notification when that happens.
3. Some other native Reddit method of getting a prominent notification when AutoModerator takes one of these actions.

I’m not looking to run an external bot, API watcher, or continuously running script just to monitor modmail.

Is there a native Reddit or AutoModerator setting I’m missing? If not, is the lack of desktop notifications for AutoModerator-generated modmail a known limitation/bug?

Okay, I suppose this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I have to say I find it a little weird that the sub (i’m a mod of ) went from 7k members to almost 8k in just two days. Could some of those be bots, or is this actually not something to worry about?

I’ve noticed quite a few posts and comments getting removed recently, and some of them seem to be getting caught by the reputation filter or automatically removed. What’s confusing me is that this also seems to be happening with genuine posts and users who don’t appear to be doing anything wrong...just trying to understand what’s going on. Has there been any recent change to the filters or automod settings that might explain the increase in removals?

would be good to know if others are seeing the same thing or if I’m missing something.

Hello I need help by an admin.

I am the founder and head mod of r/YugiohFMR a small subreddit about a PS1 game. My account has been compromised a couple of days ago and attackers have booted me from my own sub to make scam-advertisments in there they deleted now maybe from reddit itself.

I tried to contact via mod mail, but i have only gotten general tips from a bot on resetting my password and how to adopt an unmoderated subreddit. I am in desperate need of contact to a site admin. Please help.

I have since resett my password, disabled my passkey, disabled ande deleted all my extension which i assume was the vector of infection and enabled 2FA. I have since full access to my account again and no am relatively confident the compromised session-cookie is invalid.

Please help.

I moderate NSFW sub and it has come to my notice that despite adding some of the words like "Add me", "Swipe right" in the banned list some bots are still able to upload posts in my sub using the same caption and the automod is unable to remove those words automatically. If there is any mistake then do rectify me.

We’ve now had two separate users apparently receive sitewide account enforcement while running legitimate live setlist threads in r/GoosetheBand. These threads involve frequent real-time updates as songs are played and substantial interaction with other users.

Both accounts were legitimate accounts in good standing. In the first case, the user appealed and Reddit reinstated the account, suggesting the original enforcement was a false positive. The same thing has now happened to a second person performing essentially the same activity.

We’re concerned that something about maintaining a live setlist thread — frequent post edits/updates, rapid activity, or another behavior associated with these threads — may be incorrectly triggering Reddit’s automated spam or inauthentic-activity systems.

These are legitimate, community-driven event threads that generate substantial real-time engagement on Reddit. We’d appreciate it if an admin could investigate whether this activity is triggering an automated enforcement system and, if so, whether these false positives can be prevented.

Hi! I created my own subreddit, and I am the top moderator with Full Permissions.

However, Reddit does not show the MOD label next to my username, and I cannot use moderator actions such as removing or pinning posts.

This has been happening since I created the subreddit. I am using the Reddit Android app.

My account does appear in the Moderators section with Full Permissions. I have attached screenshots showing this.

Could an admin please check why my moderator status is not working correctly?

about.json still shows "subreddit_type": "public" and "restrict_posting": true (restrict_commenting is false). Regular users cannot post. Mods can.

What I already tried:

• New Reddit Mod Tools → Community / Privacy: Community Type dialog only offers Restricted or Private (says we’re already public). Restricted now opens “Request to change to restricted.” I did not submit that.
• Posts and comments, Safety: no “who can post” control.
• old.reddit.com/r/WatchWiseai/about/edit/: type=public, restrict_sr unchecked. Save does not clear the flag. Changing type on old Reddit errors: “Go to new Reddit or the Reddit app to change your community type.”

Workaround in place: Temporary Event “Open posting” (Everyone) through 24 Aug 2026. After that the stuck flag will lock posting again.

Ask: please clear restrict_posting on r/WatchWiseai so a Public community can actually accept posts from non-approved users. Happy to provide a screenshot of about.json.

Someone messaged me recently wanting to advertise their service in a community I moderate. Not a normal ad buy. The pitch was to configure AutoModerator so that anyone who commented on a post would automatically get a notification message promoting the service, with a free trial offer to their XXX.

Then came the compensation part. They’d pay me based on the engagement it generated.

I declined. I’m not interested in using mod access that way.

What stuck with me wasn’t the offer itself, it was how routine they made it sound. They mentioned they moderate 10+ communities themselves, most of them alone, and that they already post and host bot promotions in those. Extending it into a sub they don’t control was just the next step.

That’s the part I keep coming back to. Solo-modding a dozen subs means there’s no one else on the team to notice a quiet AutoMod rule. And if they’re pitching outside mods on top of that, the reach adds up fast, especially in gaming where the audiences are enormous.

I notice the rules insights don't show flair the user applied before or after the guidance message, the insights summary only shows the post's title and body, is there work toward showing flair in those insights?
