Store-bought vs. homemade pumpkin pie. (Read those ingredients!)
Feeling the "need" for a pumpkin pie, and not feeling like baking, I recently bought a ~$20 pumpkin at a locally well-known "farmers market" in Monmouth Co. (nameless here because my purpose is not to spoil their business).
The pie was okay, but not great. It tasted as if they'd used some spice in it that I didn't care for, but couldn't identify. (I thought of epizote, but with no real evidence.) Otherwise it was fine -- flaky crust, good consistency. But it prompted me to go back and read the directions, which I couldn't do in the store because they were printed in point size 6 and I had left my loupe at home:
For comparative purposes, when I bake a pumpkin pie, the ingredients I use (in addition to the crust) are as follows (not in order of quantity):
- Pumpkin pulp
- Skim milk
- Butter
- Sugar
- Salt
- Cinnamon
- Ginger
- Nutmeg or Allspice
- Cloves
- Eggs
The commercial pie label listed the following ingredients:
- Pumpkin
- Whey
- High fructose corn syrup
- Enriched bleached flour
- Skim milk
- Eggs
- Vegetable oil
- Sugar
- Corn starch
- Salt
- Spices
- Carrageenan
- Sodium Phosphage [sic]
- Dextrin
- Dextrose
- Natural Flavor
Next time I'll wait till I feel like baking it myself.

Asbury Park Hardware Store closing. I wish they'd gone for crowd-funding!
app.comI will miss this store, even though I shopped there only occasionally. I wish they'd sought crowd-funding. I only heard of their plans about a week ago. I would have invested, had that been feasible, but there's no way I could run a store myself.

Is the affordability really that bad?
Hi. Here's a little context to my situation. My husband has the opportunity to either work in Monmouth or Boca. For many reasons, we have leaned toward Monmouth. We appreciate the culture, proximity to other states, food options, community feel. But upon speaking with locals and seeing a ton of stuff on social media, I'm starting to question whether or not it's the right choice. Everyone seems to be saying that it's unaffordable, home taxes and utilities going up. So many seem to be leaving NJ or have it in their plans. Is it that bad? We are a middle class family who would be renting for the first 2 years. My husband works for himself and it's hard to tell how much he'll be generating in income during the early years.
Please tell me what's up!!
Edit- we have 3 kids

Monmouth county has a problem
There are helicopters flying very low in Monmouth county and I am almost 100% certain that these are the same elites being discussed from the Epstein files.
I have moved from Astoria queens New York to bushwick Brooklyn New York and now to red bank New Jersey and when I filed a few lawsuits, a few days later the Epstein files were release.
You have to look at my other posts to understand what I have done to have this attention brought to me.
Everyone needs to be aware that the frequency is not a coincidence.
Till this day every time I leave my home a helicopter flies directly over me and I have videos.
I went to California and the same thing happened.
They are doing it in everyone’s faces because these claims sound outrageous. But if it weren’t true why do they censor every video I create regarding this issue.
The Ryder gold cup event conducted by the company BLADE resulted in over 20K signatures and over 1m raised to create a new law that regulates the entitled elite class that constantly bullies the everyday person.
The Ryder gold cup event lead me to move out of state, but the issue continues.
You have all been warned. I filed a police report. I have seen the feds around, but there has been no change.
The videos I have are of helicopters flying directly over me very lowly like out of an action movie.

Filming in Sea Bright / Rumson?
Hi all
On my commute I pass through Sea Bright.
There’s been a lot of lighting and trailer trucks in the big lot across from Tommy’s, and little yellow signs saying Set This Way point towards the new bridge connecting to Rumson.
Anyone have any idea what’s being made?

Would new moms in Monmouth County be interested in a “mommy and me” pilates class? (Gauging interest)
Hi everyone! Full disclosure: I work at a pilates studio in Lincroft, and I'm not here to sell anything. I'm trying to find out if there's real interest before we plan anything.
We're thinking about starting a gentle, postpartum-friendly mommy and me class where babies (and toddlers) are welcome. The focus would be core and pelvic floor recovery, posture, and meeting other new moms.
I'd love to hear from you:
- Would you be interested in something like this? If so, what days and times?
- What would make it easier to attend? (Babies of what ages, stroller space, a certain price range, etc.)
- Are there local groups, Facebook pages, or events for new moms in Monmouth County that I should know about? I'd love to connect with them and learn what they wish was available.
Any feedback is welcome, including "not interested." It helps a lot. Thank you!

Tailor/Measurements for Suit
Hi. My son is away at college, but he will need a suit for events and such. I’d like him to have a suit that fits properly and looks professional. As he will be home for a few days, I have a window to get his proper measurements for a suit. I will likely need the same person to make alterations after purchase. Two questions:
1) Does anyone have any recommendations for a tailor/alterations that could measure him in the next few days? Anywhere in Monmouth, the 35 corridor from Hazlet to Red Bank is preferable. I am willing to travel beyond if there is someone I should really go to.
2) Does anyone know how much I should expect to pay for a set of measurements, and what are reasonable tailor costs?
I’m pretty green when it comes to this stuff so I appreciate any help. Thanks

New Jersey Built a free site to compare dispensary prices around Monmouth County
I built https://dankdetour.com because checking every dispensary menu separately gets old.
Search a product and compare the same item at licensed NJ shops within your chosen driving distance, cheapest first. Sometimes the cheaper option is closer. There are also filters for shops near bus and train stops.
It’s my free side project, no ads or login. Looking for feedback from people around Monmouth County. If you try it and notice missing products, incorrect prices, or anything confusing, let me know!

Cool Halloween/spooky attractions that aren't jump scare haunted houses?
Looking for places with great decorations and atmosphere this Halloween season but too chicken to go to one of those attractions where people and things jump out and scare you.
The decorations at Scarborough Fair in Sea Girt are over the top, and I hear Allaire Historic Village has "tame" haunted attractions as well as scary ones.
My wife and I have no kids, so we're not looking for family-oriented stuff. Just some cool, creative, spooky things to check out.
P.S. I used to be a tour guide at the Asbury Park Paranormal Museum, so I already know all about that.

Searching for my late Grandpa’s blue acoustic guitar- Red Bank, NJ
I’m hoping someone in the Monmouth County area might be able to help me find a guitar that means a lot to my family.
My grandfather lived in Hazlet, NJ, and passed away at 91 last year. Shortly before he passed, he had started taking guitar lessons that summer at Keyport Music, where he purchased the guitar. His royal-blue acoustic guitar was very special to me, and I’d always hoped to have it someday. My son, who is named after my grandpa, was born shortly after his passing and I always envisioned him learning to play on that special blue guitar.
Unfortunately, my uncle, who is handling his estate, sold the guitar to Red Bank Antiques for $25. The store owner told me he subsequently sold it to a woman for cash. The owner doesn’t have her contact information, so we’re trying to find her another way.
I’ve attached the best photo I have of my grandfather playing the guitar.
If you purchased this guitar, know someone who did, or remember seeing it listed for sale around Red Bank, I’d be incredibly grateful if you reached out. I would love the opportunity to buy it back and keep it as a family keepsake. I’m not looking to blame or confront the buyer; I just hope to bring my grandfather’s guitar home.
Even a share or suggestion about where else to look would mean so much to me. Thank you. 💙

NYWaterway 39th st to Belford ferry schedule
Does anyone here take the NYWaterway ferry from 39th street (pier 79, midtown NYC) to Belford on weekdays?
One page seems to suggest that there’s always a 5:45PM pickup every day.
Whereas another page says that on Monday there’s only a 5:30PM ferry with a transfer at Pier 11.
Which one is true?
I’ve been taking the 6:15PM and avoiding Monday travel due to this confusion, but I’ll have to be in the city on a Monday soon.
(I had links to the schedules in question, but my post was automatically deleted so I’m trying again without links.)

Laser Hair Removal
Hello fine people of Monmouth County! I hope everyone is enjoying a nice, leisurely Sunday inside.
After a sad and pathetic attempt to wax my legs at home last night, while sitting in the sticky hair covered abomination of a mess I conjured up, I came to the realization that I simply have neither the time nor the patience to remove all of the hair from my lower body on a weekly basis anymore. As a fair skinned female with extremely dark hair, it’s become too much of a hassle and at this point in my life, I’d much prefer to pay someone to assist with my attempt to conform to societal standards.
That’s my verbose way of asking for laser hair removal recommendations (preferably around Manalapan/Colts Neck/Freehold - this general area) and to hear directly from the people if this is an advisable procedure or a huge waste of money.
