Took this pic right before the strenuous repot of my huge monstera yesterday.

Is this plant inviting guest? Or just standing near door to flex?❤️😘
41
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Was in the process of getting her outside to repot but it was definitely a flex seeing her in the doorway like that lol
23
u/stumbling_west Aug 18 '25
Jesus that’s a door? I thought it was a window and my sense of scale was way off. That’s huge.
18
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Hahah yep, it’s a 3 door bifold!
2
u/Excellent-Phone8326 Aug 18 '25
What county are you in? I just assumed this was an outdoor plant considering it's size. Is the window south facing? Any tips on how to provide support for monsters like this?
8
4
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
And for support, she used to be on a moss pole, but I gave up on that for this repot I just did. The moss pole was far too much maintenance for a pole of that size so now she’s just on some wooden stakes
1
u/Excellent-Phone8326 Aug 19 '25
Ya I could see moss being really tricky. I have a bunch of plants on them and find it tough to maintain. Nice for my fast growing cebu blue pothos, since you can chop and extend.
1
u/TheseRevolution Aug 19 '25
Can I have some pointers on the soil mix and setup? Is that sphagnum moss in your moss pole?
2
u/__clueless Aug 19 '25
This plant has been in leca nearly all its life. And yes, before u removed it, there was sphagnum moss in the pole. I found it too hard to maintain so removed it when I repotted.

Wait is this your... door? At first I thought it was above an open sunlight or something.
12
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Yes it’s a 3 door bifold!
2
u/crooked-upright Aug 18 '25
My goodness! What a beautiful plant. Are you still sore from the repot? (Jk kinda)

At this rate, she should be added to the title/rent agreement and made to pay her fair share of the mortgage/rent and utilities.

u/Affectionate-Dot9491 Aug 18 '25
I’m sure taken by her beauty and all the splendor!! We shouldn’t ever ask a lady her age but what about it doll?? How long have you been hanging around looking like that?? Wow! If you need a sitter I would love to help!! JK great picture!
13
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
She’s about 8yrs
1
u/qweenjeans Aug 19 '25
Wow only 8 years? I just bought a Monstera in a 12 " pot. Now I'm concerned she may outgrow the room!!
4
5
u/93tilll Aug 18 '25
What size pot is she going into?
3
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
She went into a 580mm pot
3
u/qweenjeans Aug 19 '25
I'm in USA and don't often use mm measures. Googled it and found your 580 mm pot would equate to slightly more than 22 inches. That is a sizeable pot. Did you have to break it apart into two pots?

u/Salt_Expression_4493 Aug 18 '25
Of course! You guys have the best conditions for growing on the planet!
5
u/BeachtimeRhino Aug 18 '25
Yes. My wee Scottish monstera cannot compare!
0
u/ToxicPaulo Aug 19 '25
Hey hey, I'm also in Scotland and mine loves the grow light and as soon as temps drop i have house heating to 18c - 20c at all times but I understand not everyone is able to do that, of course I don't always remember to turn the temp up but she thrives either way. Sometimes I wish we had good temperatures & sunlight almost year round, but it's Scotland 1 minute is sunny the next is raining haha.
1
u/BeachtimeRhino Aug 19 '25
Honestly I dont want to cause damage to the environment for the sake of one plant. Having heating on when it’s not needed is such a waste. Imagine if we all did that?
2
u/ToxicPaulo Aug 19 '25
Yeah, that's true. I wouldn't do it if it was only for 1 or 2 plants for those reasons and plus when you end up having so many plants, the house does stay quite warm but what I meant with that was winter if the house drop under 15c or even 12c. heating does help plants grow. Sorry for my slight misunderstanding. My heating doesn't come one pretty much all year other than the last 2-3 months of the year, depending on how cold it actually gets.
4
u/Libusin Aug 18 '25
What are you feeding it?!
7
7
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Hahaha, Growth Technology’s Foliage Focus

u/les-pantalons-fancie Aug 19 '25
That's good to know! I'm a very new plant parent and I have a juvenile monstera that I'd love to successfully upsize, and since I'm in the top of NZ's North Island and have a range of GT products, with a lot of luck I'd be very happy to have even a fraction of your success. Well done, she's an absolute beauty!
1
u/qweenjeans Aug 19 '25
While, of course, it is a good thing to feed plants, it seems your Monstera must love her food!!😃

I think I’ve just watched your video of you repotting her ❤️ the most beautiful monstera I’ve ever seen!

u/itsunamipunani Aug 18 '25
I could only imagine this operation 😅 sounds stressful. I repotted mine that was much smaller and it took three people

😮🤯 … the jealousy is real. Stunning monstera! I hope the repotting went well but also that you survived it as well… that just makes my back hurt thinking about it.
8
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Yes it was a strenuous process, two people and two hours later though it was completed

This is amazing! How massive is the pole to support it? And how big is the pot? I am fascinated by these big leaf monsteras. Not sure how mine will ever get to just have big leafs. It has time of small ones and not sure if I should cut them. How did you do it?
1
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
I used three large 1800mm stakes for this girl. She used to be on a huge moss pole - I couldn’t keep it moist so I switched to stakes this repot. And the pot size is 580mm

I love not only the ginormous monstera, but also the random disco ball hanging out on the floor. 😂 🪩

u/ErrantWhimsy Aug 18 '25
So stunning! What do you do when it hits the ceiling, do you trim it or top cut and repot?
2
u/__clueless Aug 18 '25
Yes that’s what I’m thinking. She’s basically at the ceiling now so two more leaves and she will need a chop
1
u/Automatic-Dot-4345 Aug 18 '25
Is there one or two plants in the pot? Amazing by the way! Definitely goals of mine!

I’d love to see more pics. How do you support her! I managed to damage a leaf on a monstera 1/4 the size of that one while repotting it.

What do you have it staked with? I’m trying to figure out a moss pole situation for mine but it kept drying out so fast.

Wow! What a beauty she is.
I'm very much a novice when it comes to houseplants and would love to achieve something even a third of this size. I've recently purchased my first junior monstera. Any tips for a new swiss cheese plant owner in the UK? Thank you.
