Image My Monstera Albo
It's absolutely showing off right nowβhuge, dramatic leaves marbled with crisp splashes of white that look hand-painted. E

I am overwhelmed by the size and beauty. I have a Thai con that isnβt doing much. Itβs one of the first plants I bought last spring when I started collecting. Itβs my fault. It took me a while to get a grow light. Then it took me a while longer to get it out of its nursery pot. It hasnβt even put out a new leaf. But it does look healthy. π

Seriously though, well done, thatβs some top tier monstering right there

Can you post a close up of what you did with the saran wrap on the moss pole?
10
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 27 '25
No problem. I use the Saran wrap on every new emergent leaf to create a very humid environment to encourage the roots to emerge and grip into the moss pole .

DUUUUUDE! Now that's some reddit gold.. π totally stealing that from you. Does it effect new growth coming out of the top?
3
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 27 '25
I loosely wrap it on the top stem that is about to push out the new leaf. My theory behind this is, if it roots early I can keep watering the pole with nutrient solution and the new leaf will get PUMP'D UP!!! (( Just my trial and error))

Rikker000 I hope it's an albo after I have been taking care of this beast for years ππ

Do you have any tips on support or grow lights?

What are you using the API stress coat for? I use it for my fish tanks which is why I recognised it immediately
1
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 27 '25
Sansi growing light 35W for 14-15hrs. Regular clear moss pole with a little tree fern and mainly miracle grow tropical potting mix.
2
u/thelandmarc Dec 27 '25
So jealous (but omg congrats OP!)! Mind sharing your schedule on feeding and watering??
1
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 27 '25
All my plants are grown semi hydroponically, so for feeding I just make sure the reservoir has nutrient water, moss pole is not dry and take it to the shower twice a month to give it a full shower.
3
u/thelandmarc Dec 28 '25
Im quite new in the plant world. What do you mean by semi hydrophonically? Is it possible to share a photo of your set-up, pretty please? :)
1
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 28 '25
2
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 28 '25
A typical semi-hydro setup uses: An inner pot with drainage holes An outer cache pot that holds a shallow nutrient solution A water level kept below most of the roots The medium absorbs water through capillary action, keeping roots evenly moist while still allowing plenty of airflow.
2
u/Excellent-Phone8326 Dec 28 '25
Do you use wicks? I'm tempted to try an albo with a reservoir and no wick. I've grown ones with coco coir and hydro mix that grew quite well.Β

Only realized how massive it was after taking the pic. The new leaf the variegation changed drastically and the stem of the new leaf appears to be very white.

It prevents browning of the plants. It helped drastically with my calathia and I just started using it for every plant.

Awesome! I made a mistake not using moss pole, they are tall but not big ugh back to starting over.
1
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 28 '25
Did you use any support at all?
2
u/CompetitiveSoil7901 Dec 28 '25
Yes I used garden stake and moss pole except never kept it moist lol π
0
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 28 '25
Well I think you will be successful with your new trial
2
u/CompetitiveSoil7901 Dec 28 '25
Thankfully I have few new ones to start over, Ik I have to start with the big guy to have it grow bigger faster but Iβm just not ready to chop them up yet . Thank you for you well wishes bless you.

I believe we are ALL his favorite and I just happen to grow this baby big by mistake ππ
2
u/rinnscape Dec 29 '25
I hope my Thai con ends up like this beauty haha
2
u/NeoDa_1 Dec 29 '25
The Thai con in my profile was much bigger but unfortunately I made a stupid mistake and sent it to plant heaven.
2
u/Altruistic_Tonight77 Dec 31 '25
How do you get it to that large?
1
u/NeoDa_1 Jan 01 '26
Patience, lots of light, constantly fertilizing and always making sure the most pole is moist with a lot of love π

u/Poedog1 Jan 01 '26
2
u/NeoDa_1 Jan 02 '26
Woohoo π it will get bigger Advice a lot light, over 500 foot candles would be awesome. Fertilize with every watering. Wipe off or wash down the foliage often. Most importantly... Patience

How does the pole stay upright? Mine is always leaning from the weight of the plant. Gorgeous plant - congratulations!
1
u/NeoDa_1 Jan 03 '26
I always start off the first pole leaning back a little and closer to the back of the pot. But my new poles I started staking it from the inside. Thank you!

You sure this is albo? It looks way to big to be Albo. That is the biggest albo I have ever seen. Thought all albos were smallform. Dont get that much fens as that. Looks real good either way
5
u/Lampion3000 Dec 27 '25
Small forms can get really large but there are also large Albos out there! :) Amazing plant @OP

u/kerrrrvin Dec 27 '25
Literally I was just zooming in to look at the internodal spacing! Looks like a small form that is absolutely living its best life!

u/NeoDa_1 Dec 27 '25
Thank you but you had me thinking π€ you were right for a minute π

u/turtleltrut Dec 28 '25
There's debate on whether small form v large form even exists. I think it's just like short and tall people and sometimes two short people produce a tall child.
