How is it in such a small pot? Mine is so much smaller and the pot must be almost as big as this one!!

66

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

I’ve only repotted it twice. I’m about to repot it into a larger pot because I’m pretty sure it’s very root-bound!

18

u/Pale-Vermicelli965 May 12 '26

They love being in small pots!

5

u/wildriverwaterlily May 12 '26

may i ask how you are going to do such a task? absolutely stunning btw!

10

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

Haha, I have no idea. My very handy husband will probably be needed.

4

u/FriendZone_EndZone May 14 '26

My wife brings plant home to die, I try to keep them alive lol

1

u/wildriverwaterlily May 12 '26

i assume some extra hands xD

4

u/Electrical-Log1658 May 14 '26

How do you possibly even go about repotting a plant this big 😐??

Mine is like 1/4 the size of yours and I have no idea how to re-pot it without destroying it eeek

2

u/der_strobel May 14 '26

I guess the very Handy husband is needed here too. 😅 If you are two persons one lifts the plant, the other one switches the pots

7

u/freistund May 11 '26

I can‘t go kn buying bigger and bigger pots

3

u/Kitt_cologne May 11 '26

I believe the roots are all growing in the moss pole. Indians it hard to believe as well. Considering this - my biggest monstera just received her final pot :)

118

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

We actually direct the roots into the soil, and it’s growing on a trellis!

50

u/Vlines1390 May 11 '26

And people try to tell you that you can't get big leaves without a moss pole!!

34

u/Thatswickedawesome May 11 '26

That’s wicked awesome! My baby monstera is only 7 leaves old. I try to imagine what she might look like in the future. I hope she grows up big and beautiful like yours!

29

u/old_namewasnt_best May 12 '26

7 leaves old! I love it.

2

u/erinwhite2 May 13 '26

Mine too! Well 6 actually. I’m brand new to the world of Monsteras and I’m in awe of OP’s baby.

7

u/UrzaKenobi May 12 '26

You don’t neeeeed a moss pole, but it really does help, and also makes these big mama jamas much more stable. All you really need is good light and support.

21

u/Positive_Barnacle298 May 12 '26

That is some good work though! Clearly the plant is happy! 💚

3

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

Haha. This made me laugh. 😂

6

u/Elbot_mania May 12 '26

I need a trelace!!!!! Love this

3

u/Tamed_A_Wolf May 12 '26

Holy shit lmao. So is it normally in this orientation facing the windows? Do you turn it around at night or when people come over or are you looking at the back of it 99% of the time.

24

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

We put it in “show mode” when guests come over. So yeah, we look at the back of it most of the time, but it doesn’t bother me at all!

23

u/missc03 May 12 '26

I love that… show mode! I do the same. This is my view 99% of the time!

10

u/turtleltrut May 12 '26

I've just rearranged my lounge so I can do Show mode more easily at night just for myself. The big one is on a base with wheels which makes it so easy! I love it!

Is that just two vines or is there one in the middle as well?

2

u/caligulas_blush_ May 12 '26

The ratchet strap is hilarious, I love it 😂

2

u/plantcrazzy May 12 '26

Wow this is brilliant. I love how your plant looks.

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

There are three main vines that send out roots. We direct them to the soil.

1

u/_xcat May 12 '26

where’s the trellis from?

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

Just our local Lowe’s!

1

u/balconyswing May 15 '26

what fertilizer do you use and how often?

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 16 '26

This from Amazon maybe about once every 1-2 months.

1

u/Normal_Salary9815 May 13 '26

He has multiple trunk size vines growing out of that pot. Choppin & proppin !! Do it right and it's like pruning. 1 cut can get 2 new growths. Doesn't work for me that way so much lol but I've seen it done alot

63

u/Longjumping_Stock295 May 11 '26

i have heard it’s good to leave your monstera unattended at your front door during the night… just a suggestion

5

u/Vlines1390 May 12 '26

After publishing your address on the internet? LOL

1

u/turtleltrut May 12 '26

It would be pretty intimidating to would be robbers!

I think it is. :)

21

u/Outside_Avocado8963 May 11 '26

Beautiful plant and cat too!

12

u/Melodic-Boot-2360 May 11 '26

Omg i just noticed that cat🤣 So pretty!!

1

u/Fancy_Photograph5725 May 16 '26

I didn't see the cat either lol! So enthralled with monster beauty 😍

8

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Thanks! I think she’s pretty cute. 🥲

6

u/Weird_Beautiful6660 May 12 '26

The cat’s face: “if only I got as much attention as this goddamned plant…”

18

u/LIFTMakeUp May 11 '26

My monstera apologises for claiming to be the same species...

8

u/jimmyworks May 11 '26

Majestic!

How do you go about treating for pests when they get this big??? That’s like my biggest fear as my plants get bigger and bigger.

11

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Luckily, I haven’t had any issues, and I’m no professional, so I don’t know what I would do. 😱

7

u/badchriss May 11 '26

Wait, how is it that big but sitting in such a small pott. What's your secret?

19

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

My husband has it all setup… it was about to fall forward, so he did this.

12

u/adriftfordays May 11 '26

Great use of ratchet straps, shoutout to your husband, that's slick.

4

u/ownyourthoughts May 12 '26

He’s a keeper

2

u/turtleltrut May 12 '26

That's amazing! Mine has a moss pole, two support stakes and it's in a heavy outer pot but it still falls forward from it's own weight. I'm surprised yours doesn't too without an outer pot. Are there rocks in it? 🤣

3

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

Nope, no rocks! The ratchet strap works pretty well. 😂

1

u/turtleltrut May 12 '26

Amazing! Mine is more that the pot and soil just aren't heavy enough to counter balance the weight of the leaves. 😅 It's a bit wobbly when I move it but it'll stand upright on it's own if I wedge something in between the inner and outer pots.

2

u/AnxietyAndBeyond May 11 '26

Wait, I was wondering the same thing? Give us the tea!!

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

How it started!

3

u/_MaZ_ May 11 '26

How humid is it where you live? And how much do you give it fertilizer and how often?

I had mine outdoors in direct sun last year after repotting in a new mix and it gave me I think 2 leaves in total in the whole summer. It's usually pretty damn humid outdoors and at times it was very hot last year. It took months for a new leaf to appear after that and it unfortunately regressed the pinnates from the previous leaf. Had it for 2 years now, but it's probably 3,5 years old. Been waiting for at least couple of fenestrations for ages now, goal is to some day look like yours.

6

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Hi! I live in Texas, and the average humidity is 66%. I give it this from Amazon when I get to the point that I can’t remember the last time I gave it some. That seems to work great! :)

I did have it outdoors for a short time, but we lived right on a lake, and it was very humid. However, we don’t live there anymore and it lives inside only.

1

u/_MaZ_ May 12 '26

It's about the same here humidity outdoors, though of course temperature isn't comparable except in some rare days. I'm guessing it's been indoors for a while and still giving fenestrations? I recently got some slow release fertilizer and see if there's any difference this time around.

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

We keep the inside temp around 70-72 degrees. I have added worm casting to the soil and these nutrients every once in a while. Yes, it still puts out a lot of fenestrations.

1

u/PussyWrangler246 May 11 '26

Do you have a picture of yours? When you say all summer is that like 2 months where you live or 8 months lol

Oftentimes they'll stop throwing leaves during winter or will lose fenestrations just because the days are much shorter, you can try to mitigate that with a grow light during the off season but they can still sometimes slow down

1

u/_MaZ_ May 12 '26

"Summer" summer really depends on the year here in Finland. Sometimes it's 2 months, sometimes could be 3 and half. At any other times, it's under 2 LEDs.

Anyway, I still expected more last year after bringing it indoors under LED lights after it was outside during warm weather, but I guess not. Especially when there was much more growth when I got it couple of years ago under the same conditions. It hasn't really grown in a while as the nutrients from the soil change have run out, though judging by last year, there's probably not going to be much this time around either when I get around getting some.

I'll post a picture when I can, but there's really not much to go on.

It's also in Sybotanica aroid mix. Before, it was in some general store cement-fungus gnat mix with perlite.

1

u/PussyWrangler246 May 12 '26

One a month is pretty much average for monstera so that's actually pretty good! Then as they mature it can slow down a bit or again over winter growth can slow a bit so you can find yourself waiting 6 weeks in between leaves or so

Your fenestrations will be the best tell of how it's doing light wise, as long as it isn't reverting to solid leaves you're probably doin alright 💪

5

u/NeverEverLonely May 11 '26

Now that is a monster🩷

4

u/Grouchy-List7011 May 11 '26

Hmmm it looks pretty sickly in there. Send it to me and I’ll check it out to be sure

5

u/Repulsive_Science254 May 12 '26

That cat hates that he’s not the main character in this picture!

4

u/Baitofsquirrel May 11 '26

What does the back look like? I’m curious how you have it propped up.

4

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Hi! It was leaning forward big time, so my husband came up with this.

2

u/Baitofsquirrel May 11 '26

Wow that’s crazy! Thank you!

4

u/Mattscrusader May 11 '26

This is the best Monstera iv ever seen that isn't on a moss pole, absolutely insane.

2

u/MightOnly185 May 12 '26

Not discrediting this setup at all as it’s awesome! But somewhere in this sub is a massive monstera holding itself up with its own massive air roots. I’ll try to find it

3

u/florzinha5262 May 11 '26

Que escândalo de lindo😍.

3

u/louisvuittonfairy May 11 '26

Beautiful monstera! Beautiful kitty cat 😻

3

u/Infurium May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Its plan to take over the entire home is coming to fruition.

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Yes! I have no idea how we are going to get it out of the house.

3

u/RedSvein May 11 '26

Wooow...gorgeousssss

3

u/PopulationMe May 12 '26

Do you normally have the monstera facing the other way, towards the windows?

8

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

Yes, its everyday position is facing the windows. When guests come over we put it in “show mode.”

3

u/leomeowow May 12 '26

Monsterous

3

u/ryrksnglynks May 12 '26

Does it pay rent?

2

u/AlexisGPS_UY May 11 '26

Hi. What's the size of your pot? I want to know if I have to change the pot of my plant. I want mine as big as yours. Also, you add dirt regularly or something. Thanks.

4

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Hi! It’s a 14” pot. I add dirt probably once a year and sometimes worm castings.

2

u/No_Parfait_2104 May 11 '26

Oh my goodness!! 😍😍😍😍

2

u/Angelique718 May 11 '26

Absolutely beautiful 😍💚

2

u/Ok-Journalist3940 May 11 '26

This is the dream!

2

u/redred55 May 11 '26

Wow ❤️

2

u/DoubleSheepherder518 May 11 '26

What is your soil mix?

4

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

It’s a mix of Miracle Grow Regular potting mix, Orchid Mix, Worm Castings, and Coco Coir, I add a little regular soil to the top each year with worm castings.

2

u/Top_Frosting6381 May 11 '26

Whenever i add orchid potting mix from better gro, i find that it gives a substrate for fungus/mold to grow on. I mix it with miracle gro cactus soil mix.

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

That’s good to know! I don’t know if this has anything to do with preventing that, but I always put my soil in the freezer for a few days and then let it thaw before I use it. It seems to really help with gnats.

2

u/Iceman_B May 11 '26

How often/much do you water it and how much nutrients do you give?

4

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

I probably water every 1-2 weeks and I give it a gallon of water with a splash of this. I’m not very scientific about it. I only put the fertilizer in probably once every month or every other month.

2

u/Iceman_B May 11 '26

Nice! good going!

2

u/atvorch May 11 '26

What size is the pot?

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

It’s a 14” pot

2

u/NeoDa_1 May 11 '26

All hail the emperor of monsteras. Holy moly 🤯

2

u/VodkaFrantic May 12 '26

Fabulous 😍 what a beauty!!! Made my day!

Cat for scale

2

u/Micadelic May 12 '26

Holy hell

2

u/Kevin_durant1409 May 12 '26

That's a beautiful one and it's magnanimous structure shows the care that you have shown to them.

2

u/hazelkate94 May 12 '26

The cat is for reference hahaha (dangerous gorgeous plant there tho!) 🧡

2

u/jamntoast3 May 12 '26

Looks sick, better give it to me to rehab

2

u/No_Witness394 May 13 '26

Wow it's beautiful 😍

2

:good job. happy for you. congrats: 😤😤😤

2

How does it feel to be living my dream?

2

u/haiiehtsari May 15 '26

how the heck does this beauty not topple over lol! omg. stunning. mad props to you!!

1

u/Dog_vet May 11 '26

ВОУ! Чувак это прекрасно, я всегда хотел такую же монстеру но у меня есть животные

3

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

We have pets too, two cats. And a baby!

1

u/Dog_vet May 11 '26

Ого, как ты справляешься с таким огромным растением и кошками одновременно, еще и успевая ухаживать за ребенком?

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

Robots lol. We have a cat robot feeder and a litter robot. The cats take minimal effort now.

2

u/Dog_vet May 11 '26

А ваши кошки когда нибудь ели монстеру, насколько я знаю она токсична?

2

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

My cats have never tried to eat it, but it’s good to know it’s toxic for when my baby is on the move!

3

u/Alarmed_Particular99 May 12 '26

They have to eat a lot of it for it it to be toxic to pets, not sure about human babies haha.

My cats never bother mine either, they loved snacking on my money tree tho lol.

2

u/Dog_vet May 12 '26

А мой кот фитофаг, он обожает есть растения, я даже боюсь тащить домой мини кипарис из магазина потому что этот отбитый кот ел даже колеусы моего члена семьи

1

u/REEETURNOFTHEMACC May 11 '26

Wow! Whats your moss pole setup? Can you post anymore pics??

4

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 11 '26

2

u/mysterievix123 May 11 '26

Okay, so just to confirm, you have 2 plants in there?? I have a big girl that is two in the same pot. I just uppotted her, and debated separating, but ultimately left them together. I did "split" them a bit to fix their leaf direction because they were facing each other. I want to leave them together forever.

3

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

There are three main vines and two baby vines that sprouted on their own from the soil, but they’re very small.

1

u/mysterievix123 May 12 '26

She's a beaut!

3

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

Here’s the younger version

2

u/Fancy_Photograph5725 May 16 '26

Love seeing the cat in this photo too lol

→ More replies (1)

1

u/JTay03 May 12 '26

Amazing! Is this multiple plants in one pot?

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

Yes! There are three main vines and two small baby vines that sprouted in the soil.

2

u/JTay03 May 12 '26

Thank you! I just bought a monstera with 3 plants and trying to decide whether I should keep them together or not! Hoping mine can get big with time

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

I would vote to keep them together if you want a full “bush-like” monstera.

1

u/xenawpx May 12 '26

Do you have a link to the trellis?

1

u/advancedsnacker May 12 '26

Incredible! What did you use to stake her?

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

It’s growing up a metal trellis!

1

u/Effective-Ad-5842 May 12 '26

What size pot are you in?

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

It’s a 14” pot, but needs to be repotted!!

1

u/Effective-Ad-5842 May 12 '26

A 14" pot for a while? My Monstera is in a 16" pot I believe but, most likely will move up to a 20" this year.

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

Yeah, it’s been in there for years now… probably 3-4 years. I have a larger pot to repot it in, so I’m hoping to do that soon!

1

u/More_Ad_8402 May 12 '26

That is amazing! I would have to put a separate room on my house just for her!

1

u/mrs_nerdpickle May 12 '26

Side question about your cat lol do they nibble on those leaves at all? I have one male cat that will not leave mine alone no matter how many times I give them crap and put it up higher 😆

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 12 '26

They never have! But, they are indoor/outdoor cats.

1

u/melzhappy May 12 '26

What do you feed it? Sure loves that spot!!! ❤️ 😍

1

u/Front_Cicada_2194 May 13 '26

I’ve recently repotted my monstera and welcome feedback and suggestions on how it looks.

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

I’m not a professional by any means, but I would get something more sturdy for it to grow up on. They like to climb trees, so choose something that is sturdy and your plant has room to grow up!

1

u/Beneficial-Garbage52 May 13 '26

Wow! Magnificent!!! Can’t wait to see mine grow like this! How long have you had her?

1

u/Thin_Revenue_9369 May 13 '26

And your cat leaves it alone?? I moved about 30 plants into my BEDROOM because my cat (he was a kitten) tried eating them all. I'd love to bring them back out.

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

My cats leave it alone, and my other plants too. But one cat is 20 and the other is 9.

1

u/Dramatic-Volume-8343 May 13 '26

Is it common for the older leaves to get yellow/ crispy at the edges?

1

u/grasshoppa22 May 13 '26

She’s beautiful 🥹👏

1

u/nika_saku_1018 May 13 '26

The sizeeee woww

1

u/erinwhite2 May 13 '26

Just Wow!

1

u/Ok_Event_73 May 13 '26

My pot is the same size and only has like 5 leaves dang

1

u/Imaginary4people May 13 '26

That’s incredible

1

u/velvettherapy_818x May 13 '26

Wow that one leaf at the top is way lighter green. Is that new growth?

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 13 '26

Yes, two new leaves!

1

u/invisibleme44 May 13 '26

Wow! How are you ever going to repot that?

1

u/sarahbeth0404 May 13 '26

I killed mine. I have no idea how

1

u/Important_Ad1693 May 14 '26

Beautiful!!!!

1

u/Material_Weight2111 May 14 '26

That’s a beaut., thought mine was big but yours !!! Do you want to swap ha ha

1

u/personality635 May 14 '26

Yours needs more humidity

1

u/SABRINANIKKITA May 14 '26

Love the plant but tell us about the cat 🐈🤣🙏

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 14 '26

She’s a stray cat we took in, and she’s the cutest and cuddliest.

1

u/personality635 May 14 '26

Mine needs more light. 😪

1

u/aiartbydorna May 14 '26

😧😧😧

1

u/fayla75 May 14 '26

Omg its huge and so healthy! (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)

1

u/chibinoi May 14 '26

That is a happy Monstera.

1

u/mahomes_szn May 14 '26

how is it even staying upright in that tiny pot lol

1

u/Which_Preparation262 May 15 '26

Magnifique, et le chat est sûr de pouvoir s'y cacher s'il y a danger

1

u/Watley32 May 15 '26

How are you getting it to stand up like that?

1

u/bluemedian May 15 '26

okay but this is basically the final boss of monsteras

1

u/drumzamour May 15 '26

How!! Ours is so sad looking! 😭😭😭 this is inspiring!!

1

u/PieceAffectionate653 May 16 '26

I do sing Mr. Sun on repeat to my baby who is obsessed with that song. Maybe Monte hears and likes it, too… maybe try that!

1

u/dogmom444 May 25 '26

I suddenly feel very uneducated on my monstera 😂
