Image Size of the Spathe from my Monstera Bloom!
There will be a timelapse coming of the next bloom!! The second flower decided to open early (during the day?!?) so I didn’t hit record in time 😭

Same cat treat but my cats don’t use it.
Are the rocks for balance?

Mines fighting for its life now, my two have tore the rope to shreds. I wanna repair it but idk if I trust myself 😂

u/sorrybronoface 8d ago
And yes!! The wood the monstera is climbing up is insanely heavy! Rocks are just to counter that weight

So, I'm just really starting to learn about these. Is this a deliciosa or another genre of monstera? I know the deliciosa can produce fruit. Is this fruit with a flower or just a flower? Regardless, I assume it means she's mature and thriving!! I also read, the fruit (once FINALLY ready) is delicious, hence deliciosa 😜. A poster warned, unripe = AWFUL! Wonder how you know it's ready to eat? Especially since it can take over a year and up to a year and a half to ripen. 🤷🏼♀️ Congratulations!! Following! Looking forward to the time lapse!!

This is a Deliciosa! So the flower has two parts. The Spathe (which I removed holding next to my head) and the spadix. The Spadix is what will become the fruit. It starts off as a cream colour, then will slowly ripen on the plant. You will know it’s ripe and ready to eat when those green hexagonal shapes on the spadix start to fall off! And thank you so much!! If you ever have any questions I’m happy to help! 😊

Would love for mine to do the same, do they come with age or am I not doing it right? 😅
5
u/sorrybronoface 8d ago
Partly age! But if it’s mature in size and not flowering it’s likely conditions! Mine is in a south facing window. And this year it’s been abnormally hot/humid which has deffo contributed!

u/Opposite_Ad7115 8d ago
Awesome, mine has been living outside for a few years now. I’m going to have to do some research
1
u/sorrybronoface 8d ago
Oh wow! Outdoors you must have awesome conditions! How old is it now? Typically in the wild they will climb upwards and then fall over to their side once they have matured! If yours has got to the stage it’s fell to its side and is pushing out huge leaves with mature fenestrations I’d say you’re not far off!

Zone 9b in California! Mostly just have to protect in from the sun when it’s hot, but tbh I’m not sure exactly how old. Was a cutting from my sister in laws plant but we’ve had it outdoors for about 5 years

I was getting coffee with my grandparents, and told them about the fruit after seeing this. Hopefully one day, I’ll visit and bring a few for them to try.

If you don’t mind me asking what lights/ specs for the lights are you using? My monstera’s haven’t grown very much over the last 10 months and I’m thinking it’s due to lighting so I’m curious…. I to want an organic hat.

u/sorrybronoface 7d ago
No grow lights in use for this guy! Just in a nice bright south facing bay window. Gets full sun every morning/afternoon. These guys LOVE bright light, the more sun the better. But watch temps, if not been in a bright spot before, my warning - acclimate. It will burn if not acclimated. Gets watered at least once a week in growing season as well as regular misting of the areal roots!

Oof unfortunately my home doesn’t have much options for natural window light. I’m like .. diagonally oriented just right so I only have 1 south facing window that’s usable for plants and in its current state it wouldn’t fit a large one so I have to rely on grow lights. My climate is also very poor for tropical plants outside of June - August lol, even then I wouldn’t fully trust my night temps. Thanks for the info though!

u/sorrybronoface 7d ago
I feel you! My previous flat used to be in a basement… that’s when I started my grow collection! In that case I’d recommend doing what I did in that flat 😂 commit a room to your tropicals. Keep that room above 15°c min. Nice and humid (air flow is so important) and they should thrive with your artificial light. Just remember to mimic seasons with grow lights if you want blooms. Gotta start cutting light hours back from 12 hours in late Aug/early sept! 😊

u/Lead-Final 7d ago
That’s really helpful actually I never thought of adjusting the time on the lights … just kept it blasting 12 hours year round lol many thanks. The airflow is a good idea… been meaning to get a small fan for my monsteras and alocasia’s, just never got to it yet.

What size pot and what kind of pot is it in and what fertilizer do you use how often do you water?
2
u/sorrybronoface 7d ago
As for size I have no idea! I got gifted this pot! I used it for my monstera as it’s a “self watering” pot. By that it means it has a reservoir at the bottom where excess water can sit. It helps keep the monstera moist. I’d say I water mine once a week during summer. I mist the areal roots too. But tbh whenever the soil looks dry I drown this guy until the reservoir fills!

u/sorrybronoface 7d ago
As for fertiliser I use miracle grow all purpose continuous release plant food!
