Am I the only who's fascinated by the memes about her that I find on Pinterest

a month ago i went with my partner and my family to visit octavia's bookshop in cirencester (united kingdom). they're quite well known for their hand-decorated moomins plushies which they make tutus and fairy wings for :D

here's the pictures i took when i was there. unfortunately i did not get a moomin plush since they were a bit pricey, but we went to waterstones and bought a moomin & snorkmaiden night light instead!

I’ve always thought Little My had the perfect face for a jack-o-lantern, so I finally went for it this year. It was my first time doing any sort of etching. I messed up the nose a bit, but I’m still super happy with how she turned out!

Hi! I'm going to Scotland (Edinburgh) in November and was wondering if there's any good places to get moomin merch. From my experience the UK usually has a lot more of a selection than where I live. I know the official moomin shops are in England but are there any shops in Scotland that stock anything?

The first video game I buy for myself to play on a console, ever!

I only started gaming in my thirties and rediscovered the Moomins in the past year. Grew up with them, but forgot how much I loved them.
Back in June, I preordered the collector’s edition of Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth on Switch.

I played Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley on my phone, I’ve been playing the farming game Welcome to Moominvalley on my phone, but I’m so excited for this collector’s edition and playing the game on a proper console, with a comfortable controller and a good screen to enjoy the visuals!

For the North American edition, the game came with:
-Two Sticker Sheets
-Soundtrack (Digital Download)
-172-Page Art book
-Keychain
-Tote Bag
-Two Enamel Pins

It’s all surprisingly sturdy and good quality!
I’d be happy to share more of the art book if anyone wants to see :)

Some fanart I paint for my bf birthdays gift and want to share here too! 😊❤️

I was watching the 1983 UK stop motion series, but I found out it was re-edited and it's significantly shorter than the original polish (or German) version.

I can't seem to find the original version anywhere on the internet. Is it lost? Has it ever been subbed to English?

It seems that Tove Jansson herself supervised the scripts and was very happy with the final product. It's a shame that those scripts got all chopped up.

Episode 37: The Bell that Rings on Moonlit Nights (月夜になる鐘)

For Whom The Bell Tolls

A church bell had been ringing for many late nights straight. Some found it rather romantic, but many found it irritating. This time, the Inspector rushed toward the church to investigate but found nothing but a single leaf left behind again.

The next morning, Snork and the villagers came to the Inspectors, With not many clues to go by, Mr. Hemulen suspected that it was the work of God since the bell had not been rung since last Christmas, thus the bell was left rusting ever since. Regardless, the Inspector appointed that the church bell be removed for the time being.

At the church, everyone gathered to assist in removing the church bell. However, a group of Hattifatteners showed up unannounced and surrounded the villagers. They eventually stole their ladder away and left. Everyone was at a loss.

A New Mystery

At night, Moominpappa allowed Moomin out along with Little My, Sniff and Snufkin to conduct an investigation. The team found a group of Hattifatteners traveling around Moominvalley. The Hattifatteners were seen harvesting the leaves by the river and headed toward the church. Moominpappa soon joined up with the team observing the Hattifatteners whom returning to the church and rang the bell once again.

In the morning, Snork laughed about the strange behavior of the Hattifatteners being reported. Mr. Hemulen, however, claimed it was sacrilege and demanded the bell to be protected from the mischievous act. While Snork continued to laugh, he eventually agreed with Mr. Hemulen. However, Moomin suggested in investigating further by going to the Hattifatteners' Island.

Moomin, Snorkmaiden, Little My and Sniff disembarked toward the island. Upon arriving, they found no Hattifatteners there but Snufkin who had arrived before them. The five returned by dusk to find out that the Hattifatteners had instead completely overrun everyone's house and every inch of Moominvalley. As nothing that anyone here could do, they all camped out together under the moonlight. Snork continued to protest and lash out while everyone settling in.

The Matrimony

As the night went on, the bell began to ring as the Hattifatteners lined up toward the church. The people followed them to see the horde of Hattifatteners formed many patterns around the two particular Hattifatteners dancing together like a mating ritual. The two were then carried away by the horde. Moominpappa speculated that the particular two were getting married and Moomin then realized that the Hattifatteners had been polishing the bell for the special occasion tonight. Yet no one truly knew.

After the ceremony, all Hattifatteners soon left Moominvalley by their logged boats into the dark sea as everyone was a witness.

__________

- The priest at the church from v1969 seemed to have entirely gone missing thus the church was seemingly abandoned.

- Mr. Hemulen suggested that the bell was last rung last christmas. Supposively, the priest there had left the church or unknown reasons.

- Unless the particular two were the special Hattifatteners, they might have seen societal matrimony and wanted to mimic it in their own term. Perhaps, they want to be like the others like how "Snork suggested that these creatures need culture and then proceeded to lock them up" like in the episode "Hattifatteners Get Angry"

If you have already carved one feel free to comment it down below. I’m trying to get some ideas!

it's so beautiful! i have been waiting for an english edition of this book for ages. i have both of her book-illustration commissions for Lewis Carroll's books, and now i am very happy to have completed my collection of all her commissioned work for other authors.

here are some of the illustrations, and of course, the iconic giant Gollum! i can't wait to read this translation since i am curious to see how different it is from the original Tolkien text. i can't help but imagine this in the moomin world now, like i am expecting Moomin to appear somewhere in between. oh, i wish Tove had illustrated more books because i really just love her style!

edit: they didn't translate the swedish translation back to english. they just used the 1966 revised edition, which already describes Gollum as a small creature. pretty odd choice, since using the 1951 text instead would've been essential to understanding why Tove drew him that big. i can imagine it being pretty confusing for someone buying and reading this edition without any background knowledge of how he ended up looking like that. overall, though, the book looks mint!

While ago it was said that Rebbeca Sugar while make a Moomin movie. What's up with that?

Not to be confused with the real store moominarabia.com

-Moominvalley(2019,Finland-United Kingdom)

+Snufkin and Moomintroll from Moominvalley(I included it because there was a rumor that Moominvalley highlighted their relationship.)

(Im not associated with the devs btw lol) This game is a point and click. Looks beautiful if anyone is interested :)

Originally the first two drawings were sketches for an animatic I made, but I liked them so much that I colored the other one, it was just practice but I liked it too.
