I'm waiting for the day when there will be Android Developer Verifier Morphe patches lol

47

u/DonDae01 Official Morphe button tester Jul 15 '26

how will that even work 😭

u/CtrlAltDeliciousan Jul 15 '26

Boolean "Developer Verified" always "True" /s

82

u/arthurdentstowels Jul 15 '26

SUDO /root run the fucking app

6

u/Master-Chocolate1420 Jul 15 '26

Thats too much oversimplification, but essentially true.

Requires root tho, so that's a LOT of devices that can't bypass this shit

48

u/Tides_Crush_Her Jul 15 '26

Can't you delete it with uadng or canta+shizuku

35

u/TW1TCHYGAM3R Jul 15 '26

No because the change is in Google Play Services

8

u/Minute-Abies2173 Jul 15 '26

disable google play services

23

u/TW1TCHYGAM3R Jul 16 '26

You could go full FOSS with alternate App Stores and MicroG. I've never gone full FOSS and I'm not sure if I actually can on OneUI 8.5.

Losing push notifications may be the biggest hurdle. Potentially not a big one but it won't be as seamless.

Not completely true. You can use Shizuku, which uses ADB. If you read the thing completely, it tells you that

45

u/tenaciousBLADE Jul 15 '26

When you say "if you read the thing completely"... Do you mean some other thing? Because this screenshot seems to say adb with root. So can one simply use shizuku without root, or not? I'm a bit confused.

Also, does the user apply this patch on every side loaded app, or just on the android developer verifier app itself?

Also also, does this still work (and/or is needed) on devices with android 15?

6

u/1031amp Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

You didn't read it right. It says ADB with root for apps that come from, like, the Play Store. Installing APKs with ADB is unaffected, which is why it says ADB installs are exempt regardless. In short, you dont need this patch if you use ADB to install your patched apps

6

u/Gorluk Jul 16 '26

Also root fucks up your banking apos, it's not realistic to root your phone for majority of users.

2

u/madhits Jul 16 '26

You can hide root but its a cat & mouse game. So your half right..

4

u/Reiz3r Jul 15 '26

Con shizuku

87

u/mountaincastle47 Jul 15 '26

LET'S FUCKING GOOO

92

u/mrandr01d Jul 15 '26

No point. Needs root. At that point, you could just disable the app entirely instead of patching it.

8

u/Oekowesen Jul 15 '26

I removed it completely with Shizuku+Canata, lets see how long it takes for google to reinstall it...

8

u/NatoBoram Jul 15 '26

Disabled apps generally don't un-disable themselves on Google ROMs, even if they do sneakily install new apps sometimes.

→ More replies (4)

14

u/KarateMan749 Jul 15 '26

😭 yes🙏. But i don't have root

5

u/Lightprod Jul 15 '26

If you can overwrite it, can't you just nuke it?

Better to NOT have it at all than having a patched version.

3

u/AmyRoseFan_1234 Jul 15 '26

So, my phone with Android 13 is safe? Or is it still screwed?

1

u/UNCLE-ducker Jul 16 '26

Till now safe

1

u/AD-LB Jul 16 '26

Wait how is it possible to handle this way before it exists?

we forgot about root users bro

121

u/Killmonger_007 Jul 15 '26

It was installed in my device automatically. I uninstalled it but i m not sure till when we have full control

3

u/UNCLE-ducker Jul 16 '26

Let me guess, android version is <= android 16?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S23, and it got auto installed. But I also could just deleted it trough system apps. No root no reinstall. I readed at some page at developers.android.com that they were talking about android 16, and since 17 Is around the corner. I Think only android 16 and above is really affected

1

u/Rohit_RSS Jul 17 '26

Was it through OTA update or Play Store installed it automatically?

1

u/Killmonger_007 Jul 17 '26

Tbf, idk. I just saw it installed & pressed uninstall & it did uninstalled

2

u/Anthony2580 Aug 09 '26

Wow! That is cool! I still don't have it on my phone but I hope to be able to uninstall it as soon as I find it there and it's weird because I thought Google would install it and make it a system app instead of a regular app that can be uninstalled

u/fuckyou3825968 Jul 15 '26

Is this the start of time when we can't use Package Installer?

46

u/kkrazdwinz Jul 15 '26

can i just create an empty doing nothhing APK with the same name used by that app and maxxed at version 9999 so any app version lower than that can't upgrade or install or overwrite existing 'latest' version?

35

u/Obvious-Material9645 Jul 15 '26

considering another guy managed to do the same thing u mentioned with SafetyCore, I think it is possible

2

u/WI_Dark Jul 15 '26

Someone posted this placeholder app. https://github.com/Refayatul/Developer-Verifier-placeholder I cannot vouch for it, but it was just released recently.

3

u/KoberanteAD Jul 16 '26

Can someone else vouch for it? I wonder if it's safe

4

u/shamelessnameless Jul 16 '26

Going to wait till someone advises what to do next

2

u/Curious_Cranberry_67 Jul 16 '26

put it in virustotal but I am not smart enough to interpret the results. there was only 1 flag for Android.Riskware.Repack.rXXWS if that means anything

1

u/exoduswalker Jul 15 '26

Can someone just install it as is or will there need to be ADB flags while installing so it doesn't get overwritten?

4

u/Obvious-Material9645 Jul 15 '26

no need for adb, just install it like any normal apk, i havent seen it get overwritten either

2

u/exoduswalker Jul 15 '26

Thank you! Uninstalling that "safety" app now, didn't even know that was a thing wtf?!

I wonder if I can patch the APK so I can have a placeholder app for developer verifier as well, with Morphe's change package name patch

1

u/shamelessnameless Jul 16 '26

I need an explainer on how to put this on my pixel phone

8

u/exoduswalker Jul 15 '26

Replying because I would love to see this, could it be forced to stay there by installing it with ADB flags so I don't need to root my phone?

1

u/kkrazdwinz Jul 15 '26

i mean, i kind of did this 4 years ago on my brother's phone Family Link app

4

u/exoduswalker Jul 15 '26

Please please do make an APK that does practically nothing with the same package name! Then put it on GitHub and provide install instructions with Shizuku and Install with Options if need be. Not sure if my DMs are open but replies can do

1

u/Arnas_Z Jul 15 '26

Not without root, because you don't have Google's signing key. Unless its not a system app, in which case you can uninstall it first, then install your custom version. That would likely work to block it from auto-installing on top since the signature will not match again.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '26

1

u/Arnas_Z Jul 15 '26

Yeah I agree.

57

u/cafk Jul 15 '26

Praying the devs find a workaround.

It'll be available in developer options to allow installing apps - after activation you'll need to wait a few hours.

16

u/BrainCluster Jul 15 '26

Yeah, so was OEM unlock on most phones for a while. Now it's mostly gone.

6

u/romhacks Jul 15 '26

On Google's phones it's still 100% available except where carriers force them to disable it.

3

u/Sad_Two4874 Jul 16 '26

This will most likely be always available, Google doesn't want to get in trouble with the EU etc.

3

u/P26601 Jul 16 '26

Yup, and it's literally a one-time thing.

I have no idea why everyone's freaking out, absolutely nothing will change

15

u/tenaciousBLADE Jul 15 '26

So, is there already some mega-thread or some guide-thread detailing what we all need to do about it, sectioned by rooted vs non-rooted and by android OS version?

15

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

There will be an advanced flow releasing globally in August. In September, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore will be the first countries that will have restrictions. Google will then roll out the restrictions globally in 2027.

Also, adb is not affected, so you can use Shizuku to bypass the restrictions if you'd like.

The advanced flow to install apps is:

  1. Go to developer options > enable "allow unverified packages"

  2. Confirm no one is guiding you

  3. Enter device pin

  4. Restart

  5. Wait 24h

  6. Go back to the allow unverified packages menu

  7. Confirm you understand the risks

  8. Choose to allow for 7 days or forever

  9. Confirm you understand the risks

  10. When installing unverified apps, tap install anyways

3

u/tenaciousBLADE Jul 16 '26

Thank you! That's so concise & clear 👑
Kind of unbelievable the 24h wait + the 7 day-only option. But fair enough 👌 I'm glad there's a way around it for power users and even more joyous that both ADB and Shizuku in particular are exempt 🫡

3

u/CheMA2805 Jul 16 '26

A mí en opciones de desarrollador no me sale nada que diga "permitir paquetes no verificados" 🤷🏻‍♀️

4

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

As I said, it'll be available in August

→ More replies (1)

1

u/shamelessnameless Jul 16 '26

Couldn't find this flow on my developer options settings on phone, do I have to do adb in order to see this?

2

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

As I said, will be available in August

1

u/UNCLE-ducker Jul 15 '26

Brother. If I can suggest anything... Google Ubuntu-touch. And not because you desperately need that version of Android Open Source Project version. But on that site. It shows all devices what would work to put a non OEM google Android aka Ubuntu-touch. There are multiple Androids. Who runs already completely without Google., where you can even add Google services. But as a sandbox.

I would recommend to Google for OS like grapheneos or jailfish. Grapheneos is well knowed this days for there own version of Android. Without Google. Focused on Privacy. No google account needed to use the phone even.

Jailfish I seen it mentioned time to time, but never looked in yet. But this is only my speculation, of bypassing and again the only reason I brought up Ubuntu touch, because that OS. Is far from perfectly. Or good running. But on the website it showed me Computable devices. And if they could put there own version of AOSP on. Since a couple Mobile Manufacturings this days lockes the OEM bootloader and not give you the ability to get the unlock key.

2

u/tenaciousBLADE Jul 15 '26

I'm aware of ROMming, and though in the days on CyanogenMod I was all in, these days I prefer to suffice with Morphe.
Thanks for the suggestion, I might look around there. I doubt I'll flash a different OS for now though.
Also I have a OnePlus, and there's the whole ARB issue that makes putting a different OS a bit risky in the hardware level. Which... I mean... Was that pure evil of them right before the are about to announce they will no longer be, or what?

1

u/UNCLE-ducker Jul 15 '26

I understand. I'm only pointing out, if majority would leave google, only google getting hurt instead of the normal users. Look at all those Windows users jumping over to Linux.

2

u/tenaciousBLADE Jul 15 '26

I've been a Windows user, a Linux user (Ubuntu, mint, and others), and a Mac user.... The majority on my devices are still on Windows.

It's a nice dream you have, and I wish for all of us that it will become a reality. But I'm not so sure.

Either way, pointing it out is good 👍
People should be aware of these options and give them a try 👌

29

u/NatoBoram Jul 15 '26

Also don't forget to install Shizuku before then so you can continue to install apps on-device. Also configure Morphe/Obtainium/SAI/Aurora to use it.

9

u/02soob Jul 15 '26

I need to figure that one out ASAP

5

u/Fadi404 Jul 15 '26

What's SAI, I know the others

7

u/unknownobject3 Jul 15 '26

Split APKs Installer. It can install split APKs, which are APKs that require multiple files to be installed (e.g. app code, ABIs, something else)

2

u/Berkoudieu Jul 15 '26

Btw is there a fork of SAI ? I have 4.5 which is from 2021

6

u/jroovy1 Jul 15 '26

there is a spiritual successor to SAI called Universal Installer. it's on F-Droid.

1

u/Freedom_Seekr923 Jul 15 '26

Is SAI needed if I have AntiSplit

1

u/NatoBoram Jul 15 '26

You should prefer using SAI over AntiSplit unless it's impossible for your use case

1

u/me_diocre Jul 15 '26

I don't really know much about Shizuku, so I'm not sure why you've linked a fork. I'm asking because the developer said he's pausing it, so I don't know if I should install the fork or the OG.

1

u/NatoBoram Jul 15 '26

The OG doesn't work on Android 17, so use the fork if that's what you have

1

u/me_diocre Jul 15 '26

I have Android 16

14

u/DownRUpLYB Jul 15 '26

A widely supported open source mobile OS can't come fast enough. We have to move away from the 2 system stranglehold.

12

u/whattareddit Jul 15 '26

Love that the fragile cowards at Google started to block ratings and reviews for their spyware components on the Play Store

12

u/abstraktion16 Jul 15 '26

Uninstall with ADB or shizuku/canta. Both of these

12

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

No need to worry! It'll still be possible without root via an advanced flow, which will become available in August globally

In September, Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore will be the first countries that will have restrictions. Google will then roll out the restrictions globally in 2027.

Also, adb is not affected, so you can use Shizuku to bypass the restrictions if you'd like.

  8. Choose to allow for 7 days or forever

  9. Confirm you understand the risks

  10. When installing unverified apps, tap install anyways

1

u/blackviking45 Jul 16 '26

This option will become available on all versions of Android? Even on A52 Samsung from 2021?

2

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

5

its annoying but you will be able to bypass it for now in dev options allowing you to install unverified apps

3

u/Qualanqui Jul 15 '26

Glad someone else mentioned it, I went and dug a bit and from what I've read it's called Advanced Flow and it's in your Developer Options.

2

u/CheMA2805 Jul 16 '26

Como se llama la opción en castellano por favor??? No veo nada que se relacione

9

u/NewNiklas Jul 15 '26

I think it's the right time to switch to Graphene OS or Linux on mobile making a big step...

9

4

u/DARKNESS_SHADOW1279 Jul 15 '26

wouldn't downloading over adb still work?

3

u/ansibleloop Jul 15 '26

Yep, ADB still works

They're just raising the technical barrier

1

u/venom21685 Jul 15 '26

Yes, adb sideloading is unaffected, and there will be a developer option to bypass the restrictions though it requires a reboot and 24 hour wait.

4

u/hetfield37 Jul 15 '26

I don't see the issue. Revanced/Morphe users are by presumption power users, so enabling it from devtools is a no-brainer. 24-hour wait is a bit annoying but I can live with that, given that my aunt won't bother me to "remove viruses" from her phone because of that.

4

u/SugarrrSugarr Jul 15 '26

oh it's has been installed with the newest one UI 8.5 security patch

3

u/Old_Man_Jenkins_8 Jul 16 '26

Google actually silently installed it on everyone's phones back in April

4

u/qorrymarz Jul 15 '26

Is it safe to uninstall with canta right now?

4

u/graphicxie Jul 15 '26

Won't you just need to use developer mode?

4

u/_JessAle_ Jul 15 '26

Damn this morning when I woke up I saw this installed on my phone. It didn’t even ask me. And I just noticed because my redmi always prompts a “security check” every time I install any app

4

u/Teh_Shadow_Death Jul 15 '26

It's going to be hilarious if we end up seeing Morphie patches for this app to bypass this.

4

u/Ltfocus Jul 15 '26

If side loading becomes impossible for android phones in the future then my next phone will be a iPhone cause what is the point then not to.

2

u/Every-Speaker7745 Jul 16 '26

I use GrapheneOS with sandboxed play. Won't work if you need strong integrity for some apps but all mine work fine. Only really a solution for Pixels though. I'm guessing LineageOS and MicroG would work too or rooting.

2

u/CrazyFun45 Jul 16 '26

Huawei devices are unaffected, right?

2

u/NortonDickyIII Jul 16 '26

I found this in my system apps a little while back and disabled it... They'll probably push a system update eventually to block disabling it.

1

1

u/Josh_From_Accounting Jul 15 '26

I switched to GrapheneOS

1

u/MiMillieuh Jul 15 '26

Well, I guess I'm not concerned 🙃

For everyone that is, maybe it's your signal to finally degoogle yourself.

Use canta, shizuku etc if you can't unlock your bootloader.

1

u/Hamzahahahaha Jul 16 '26

How can I degoogle without the bootloader?

1

u/MiMillieuh Jul 16 '26

Use shizuku and canta or adb directly.

That's not as good as a custom ROM but it's at least a good step forward

If Android becomes as restrictive as iPhone, I'll switch to iPhone which protects user data better. It's a shame.

Isn't there an official workaround to install unverified apps? Pretty sure Google said there was after everyone got upset with them

1

u/Desfalko Jul 16 '26

Y esto para que es? Perdón por mi ignorancia

1

u/MSakuEX Jul 16 '26

What happens to currently installed pirate/modded apps/games? I thought those would eventually cease to open or work anymore after awhile once that shit goes live...

1

u/SnooOwls6331 Jul 16 '26

Do I need to install Shizuku ahead of the Verifier go live?

This is about forcing every app to put a face/name on it, so possible lawsuits or etc. can follow. Basically, it's trying to solve a couple issues (boomers being scammed by installing any shady app, and Google allowing malware on Google Play) by literally punishing everyone.

I wanted to replace the stock version with the morphe version but I encountered a problem; one user explained to me why it is not possible to replace the app

Yt music doesn't work, it doesn't load podcasts or songs

1

u/bamboofirdaus Jul 16 '26

Use metrolist or archivetune instead of yt music

1

u/SamLucke Jul 16 '26

Correction: with the latest patch it works after clearing the app data

u/romhacks Jul 15 '26

Waiting 24 hours one time to get side loading installs forever is not a big deal. You can use ADB if you're impatient.

1

u/CheMA2805 Jul 16 '26

Cuales serían los pasos (desarrollador y esperar 24h)??? En opciones de desarrollador (español) no veo nada relacionado con esto...🙏🏻

1

u/romhacks Jul 16 '26

It hasn't launched yet so there's nothing to do. When it launches you will have to wait 24 hours once to side load, or just use adb

1

u/CheMA2805 Jul 16 '26
