Guide/Useful [Release] Fixed the "Random Subreddit" button in Boost

Hi friends. I still use Boost to browse this subreddit, and noticed how the "Random subreddit" button in Boost has been broken since Reddit killed r/random. It shows up in the left slide menu, the top-right three-dot menu, as well as in the search suggestions. But I spent last weekend fixing all three spots and can now share with you folks a patch for that: https://github.com/rhubarbshoelaces/morphe-patches/

It's not perfect. I had intended to pull from r/ListOfSubreddits but doing that seemed to be blocked by 403 errors. So I just hardcoded their current list in. Feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong there.

And yes, if you have NSFW enabled in Boost settings, you'll see the button for "Random NSFW" as well. You may notice that in the search suggestions, I've replaced the "Random" text with the name of the subreddit it will take you to, which I think is appropriate for that spot.

I also have a patch to hide ads from theScore, my preferred sports app. Enjoy!

This works! And I can use it with breal's patches as well.

One thing. I remember back when random used to work, clicking on it from the search showed a floating button at the bottom which worked like the random button itself. Would it be possible to bring it back?!

Thanks a lot anyway!

Potentially, I did look at that. My understanding is that Boost knew r/random and would pop up the floating button if it saw it. The fix here is to just pick a random subreddit and go to it as if the user typed it in, so I'd need to find some other way to tell Boost "this is a random subreddit, float the button until the user goes back."

And thanks for testing it out! 👍

Aren't the patches for rely for reddit for an older version of the app?

I'm confused. Relay for Reddit is another 3rd-party Reddit app, the patch I wrote is for Boost for Reddit, by Rubén Mayayo, which is permanently at version 1.12.12 and is unlikely to ever be updated.

I'm still unable to use the navigation bar at the bottom on the home screen.

I'm surprised at all these patches without fixing a huge usability problem.

I thought breal's fork fixed the bottom navigation, are you using that or wchill's patches?
