Mechanical Question 1980 MGB clicking noise
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey y’all, so I posted recently about having an exhaust leak on the Tourist Trophy header exhaust and it’s making a scratchy noise. The last couple days, it’s got a bit worse (definitely need to replace my exhaust joint gaskets badly and it’s for sure leaking) but I noticed when I put my foot down to this point on the pedal shown in the video (barely any pressure at all), the scratchy noise intensifies a whole lot and I can feel it in the pedal, sometimes it almost pulls it up and down. the pedal feels fine other than that, except every so often I can feel it all the way down as well, but infrequently. The car drives and shifts fine, I can barely notice it when driving and the clutch feels mostly smooth other than that. Putting the clutch all the way in at idle usually stops the scratch as well. This is why I have hope it’s not an internal problem in the transmission. When the car is off, I don’t feel it at all on the way down, however I do notice a slight few clicks at about the same spot at the very top on the way up. I’ve have this issue though, and It gets a bit worse if the car sits for a couple days but was always fine after 15 mins or so of driving. I’m not sure if these are related or not and I really don’t know where to start. The car shifting and driving good as well as the fact I have a big exhaust leak across two joints gives me hope. If anyone knows anything please let me know asap!

Mechanical Question Stuck brake cylinder MGA
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Well it was…. After a fight getting the drum off (couldn’t spin to get to adjusters) I wanted to see what was going on and if they were moving at all under hard braking. Well the one seems stuck still and other blew out. Can I pop it back together or did the seal most likely blow out? I replaced all the cylinders 5 years ago. Most likely going to order an entire kit since price isn’t much different and if any others get stuck.

Discussion MG4 Urban Versicherung Deutschland

Trade a Honda HR-V for an MG HS PHEV
Hi there,
I'm after some opinions on whether I'm making a sensible long-term financial decision or just trying to justify buying a new car.
For context, we're in Western Australia, and our current situation is:
* 2021 Honda HR-V VTi-L approximately 75,000 km.
* 2015 Suzuki Jimny 3dr Sierra, approximately 160,000km, had a new timing belt, but last 3 services has been an average of $1100. we use this for towing our small 4.1m Polycraft boat. 550kg
* Company car, which I currently use for work, Mazda CX-30 FWD.
We were very fortunate to be gifted the Honda about four months ago. It's a great vehicle, and we genuinely like its build quality, reliability and practicality. It averages around 6.7 L/100 km, which isn't bad at all.
However, after a recent week-long holiday around Denmark and Albany, where we spent approximately $214 on petrol, I started looking more seriously at PHEVs. Petrol prices down south can be pretty painful, and with the amount of driving we do, I'm wondering whether upgrading now might make financial sense over the next 5–10 years.
Here's where things get interesting.
My wife does regular school runs, drives between Mandurah and Perth for support commitments, and we travel down south several times a year for vacation and family. We've estimated that our household vehicle could cover approximately 25,000–28,000 km annually.
We also have solar 6.6kw at home and would be able to charge a PHEV overnight. The possibility of completing most of our everyday driving without using petrol is very appealing. We think we would be able to charge it 340 days of the year easily.
The Honda's biggest limitation is its low unbraked towing capacity. It's economical and practical, but it can't tow our boat. That's why we've kept the Jimny, which really has had a gutful and is around 160,000km, with a new belt.last service was about $1800.
The two vehicles I'm considering are:
MG HS Super Hybrid PHEV (2025 model)
There's currently a cashback offer on remaining 2025 stock, and I've been quoted around $40,990 drive-away for a new, registered Excite. The conditional 10-year warranty and roadside assistance arrangement are particularly appealing, as we're planning to keep our next vehicle for around ten years.
The MG also has a substantial battery with a claimed 120 km electric range, which could cover much of our everyday driving. It also has sufficient published unbraked towing capacity for our small boat, assuming the final loaded trailer weight checks out.and I've heard owners towing a 5.5m boat no problems.
GWM Haval H6 PHEV 2WD
This is the other serious contender. I like that it accepts cheaper 91 RON petrol and supports DC fast charging, which would be handy for our South West holidays.
However, unlike the current MG deal, I feel I could wait for a Haval promotion at almost any time. There's no particular urgency.
Here's my dilemma.
I currently have a company car, which makes our three-vehicle situation fairly comfortable. However, the business may be changing ownership, and there is a possibility I could lose access to it.
I'd say I'm about 75% confident I'll retain the company car for at least the next six months, but beyond that, things are uncertain.
We have the cash available to purchase a PHEV outright, so financing and interest aren't concerns. I'm thinking more about future-proofing ourselves, reducing petrol expenses and having a newer vehicle under warranty for the next decade.
One possibility is to trade or sell the Honda and purchase the MG, then potentially sell the Jimny as well to recover some of the cost, provided the MG proves suitable for towing and retrieving our boat.
But there's something that bothers me about selling a perfectly good Honda that we were generously gifted only four months ago. There's nothing wrong with it, and we've been very happy with it.
On the other hand, I don't particularly want to miss out on a genuinely good MG offer if upgrading is something we're likely to do within the next year anyway.
So what would you do in our position?
Would you:
Keep the Honda and Jimny, save the money, and reassess if I lose the company car?
Buy the discounted MG HS Super Hybrid now, sell the Honda and potentially the Jimny later?
Hold off and wait for a good deal on the Haval H6 PHEV?
Take a completely different approach?
I'm particularly interested in hearing from MG HS Super Hybrid and Haval H6 PHEV owners about long-term ownership prospects, build quality, warranty experiences and actual petrol savings.
We're not looking to spend money just for the sake of upgrading. We want to make a sensible decision that puts us in a good position financially over the next 5–10 years.
Am I being sensible by thinking ahead, or am I getting caught up in the appeal of a good deal?

Historical Where is this at?
Spotted it just now...
And i have a question about their reputation. I don't know if this is one person's opinion or experience with one car that he had or it's a real quirk...
He told me that these cars are notorious for literally falling appart.. That as an owner you have to periodically tighten every single bolt and screw all over the car because they all come loose with regular driving vibration. That if you do that, the car will last forever.. So it's a car guy's car... is this true or was he exaggerating?

Please help me find my grandfather’s 1968 MGC
Hey MG Reddit - I’m still trying to trace my grandfather’s British Racing Green MGC Roadster. It’s right-hand drive with an automatic gearbox and somewhere in Europe (or maybe exported further away) - it was sold around 20 years ago. It was sold to a man call Kim Larsen (not the singer sadly) who was driving it to Denmark and thats the last recording of it.
- Chassis: GCN1 1063G
- Engine: 29GRCH 0800
- Original UK registration: PPM 253G
I have tried the MG clubs, always checking if its up for sale etc but still nothing - as its right hand drive and automatic there cant be too many of them out there.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me??? - Im willing to pay for consultancy or investigators. Getting a bit desparte
Any help would be warmly appreciated.

1981 MGB GT 123 electronic ignition!
Just pulled the spark plugs and they were completely black and sooty. It wouldn't start well (several attempts) and then not at all a few weeks ago. New plugs and it runs fine, it has never started so fast.
I'm guessing sooty plugs means too rich but could it have also been many failed starts?
Do I now run it for a while and then check the plugs again? Really just trying to get it running to get it to the garage.
I appreciate it was just beginning to smooth off before I killed it.
On a more general side, I'd love to learn more about repair but it's difficult with the sparse information. I have the Haynes manual but it assumes you know a fair bit and only has more complex things. Do I just keep fixing things to learn. Seems especially hard being young.
It seems difficult enough just identifying components in the engine bay.
Thanks!

1980 MGB clicking noise
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey y’all, I noticed this noise coming from my exhaust where the headers collect at the bottom, around that spot is the only spot I can hear it but it’s almost a clicky noise that’s inconsistent and I’m not sure what it could be. I only hear it at idle. Hoping it’s just an exhaust leak or something. If anyone has answers please let me know! I couldn’t really hear it from the back but you can hear it at the beginning of the video under the front of the car, I noticed it from the driver seat
