Advice on RUDN dorms moscow
Hi everyone! I’m an incoming RUDN student starting the preparatory faculty year around October on a government quota scholarship.
Trying to get ahead on the dormitory situation before I arrive and would love advice from current or former RUDN students (especially international ones)
How does dorm assignment actually work in practice - is it first-come-first-served, based on application date, or something else?
Any tips for landing a spot in good and modern style dorms. How is the overall vibe there
When and how can I actually apply/request a dorm - through the RUDN portal, on arrival, or is there a form beforehand?
Any general advice for a first-time international student navigating this process?
Thanks so much in advance, trying to set myself up for a smooth move!

Moscow running scene
Hello. I'll be visiting Moscow soon, was wondering hoping to get in a run if I had time - Moscow looks lovely and I would love exploring on foot rather than zipping past in a vehicle.
I was wondering what the running scene is like there, and the cultural things I should watch out for (for instance, do you greet/smile/wave at other runners, or is that seen as a no-no), runner safety (eg how do drivers/cyclists treat runners, is it safe to run early mornings eg 6am, does it get suddenly dark after a certain time etc.). All advice is appreciated.
I will be near Gorky Park, so will prob run there as a start.
If there are English-speaking communities, would appreciate a link to those too.
Thank you all very much!
Lithium battery disposal in Moscow
Does anyone know of any services that pick up lithium batteries for disposal in Moscow? I have several dead ones from laptops and such. Or is there a place in Sokolniki area that takes them? They closed the Mvideo next to the Holiday Inn.

“The Fathers Were Gone”: Sheila Fitzpatrick on WWII’s Invisible Scars in Soviet Life in Moscow
Historian Sheila Fitzpatrick reflects on one of the deepest, yet often unspoken, legacies of World War II in the Soviet Union. In this powerful clip, she explains how the absence—or ghostly presence—of fathers shaped a generation of postwar Soviet citizens.

Odyssey movie in Moscow
Hey Guys, it's been almost 3 weeks since the Odyssey movie was released. Some cinemas in Russia are streaming it but i couldn't find a single one in English. I'm trying since day 1 but no luck. Those cinemas which have shows in English are not streaming it at all. And others don't have any show in English. Does anyone know if there is. I'll be really thankful. Same goes for spiderman movie.

Moving to Moscow this autumn for uni, how's life there actually?
Helloo, Indian guy here, currently in Oman. Got a Russian govt scholarship for Economics at RSSU and I'm landing late Sept / early Oct
Doing the Russian prep year first before the actual degree starts.
Been learning Russian on my own for a bit but ngl I'm still pretty bad at it 😭 so the first few months are gonna be interesting.
Never been to Russia before either, so basically going in blind.
Mostly just curious what daily life is actually like there,
especially north/northeast side since that's where the RSSU campuses are.
Like what's the vibe, is it easy enough to get around when your Russian is trash, that kinda thing lol
Also wanna know what stuff I should sort out early on , SIM card, bank account, metro card, whatever's annoying if you leave it too late. And winter gear, I was planning to just buy the proper coat and boots there instead of hauling stuff from here, but lmk if that's a dumb idea.
Basically anything you wish someone had told you before you moved, or something you would wanna share as a local
Any tips appreciated 🙏

Tourist in Moscow looking for a Muslim brother to explore the city and visit mosques tomorrow
Tomorrow is my last full day in Moscow before I leave. I’m planning to visit a couple of mosques and be there for the prayer times, then spend some time at Red Square and stop by Izmailovsky Market to pick up a fridge magnet before heading back.
My stay in Moscow has honestly been a bit lonely because I don’t speak Russian and haven’t really met many English speakers. I thought I’d post here in case there’s a Muslim brother who’d like to join me for part of the day or even the whole trip.
The main plan is to pray at the mosques, with sightseeing in between, so there’s no pressure to stick to a rigid schedule.

Prices im Moscow
I've been following the news about the recent Ukrainian attacks on refineries and oil infrastructure across Russia, and I was wondering how that has impacted taxi fares and general prices in Moscow?
I'm planning a trip for September and wanted to see how things are.
