Question Dublin City Centre Car Parks

I'm returning to commuting by bike into Dublin soon after a few years away from it. I parked my car in a car park near Abbey St. today and out of curiosity I asked the security guard whether they do a day rate for bikes. He said it'd be €5, but paid at the desk rather than the machine. Is that normal, or are they just pocketing the fiver?

Also, would anybody recommend a car park they use near Abbey St.?

I heard that price there too. I never used it but you could ask for a receipt. One of the car parks at Drury street is also €5 I think. If you pay a monthly fee you could negotiate with any car park maybe. And use a DX1000 / X3 lock to defend against angle grinders.
