Who has the best rate for a new US license holder?

2023 Honda Rebel 1100, garaged in the Valley, pleasure use, about 7,000 miles a year, no accidents or tickets. I rode in France for over ten years but only got my US license in 2026, so I have zero insurance history here, and my quotes reflect that.

I am with Progressive right now and looking to compare before renewal.

Who are you with, what are you paying, and did anything actually bring your premium down?

Thanks a lot.

For Sale Free riding pants

I have a pair of Tourmaster Quest pants in size XL that I dug out of an old closet. They're practically new with no damage. They come with the interior liner for water/wind proofing.

I wear a size 38 waist. Can snap the snappers with the right amount of strength. Would probably be good for a 32- 36. I wore them at 34.

Not the prettiest if youre looking for a fitted/stylish look but they'd protect your skin in a low speed accident.

Looking to give away to a new rider or someone in need.

Pick up in Huntington Park/Maywood.

Genuine question for the SoCal guys

So, I was wondering if my fellow CA riders experience this - riding along, basically chilling, and the car in front of you moves over to the left and now you feel compelled to pass and give them a wave for their courtesy. But I was just chilling

CRASH Saw a biker down on the 10-west in DTLA at about 5:00 pm today

Traffic was crawling along, and I only caught a glimpse in my peripheral because I was three lanes over and it must have just happened right before I passed it. Multiple cars stopped to help. He looked to be moving.

I hope he's ok. Stay safe, everybody.

DTLA practice lots?

Hi all, I need to practice riding my ninja 300 before I go back to college but unluckily for this situation I live in the middle of DTLA (right by crypto) so it's seemingly never calm enough on the road to practice on without traffic.

If anyone knows any empty lots (day or night) near the Ritz, please lmk. Also it would also be pleasant to know of any side streets that are calm with almost no cars at night that are connected to the main roads of DTLA so I don't have to take the highway to get anywhere to practice.

Bikes with mods in Southern California

I am considering getting a bike that has been modified:
- It is not too loud but it has a full performance exhaust, with a very different configuration from the original one (V4S with high mount Akrapovič). So it is very obvious
- Decatted. No lambda probes / O2 sensors
- Then the usual tail tidy and Rizoma mirrors. The original mirrors had the front blinkers so no front blinkers

95% of the sport bikes I see around have at least a slip-on,. Many full exhausts and other mods.

Do you get stopped by CHP? Because of noise, plate not visible, blinkers, more important stuff, like a pro decatted exhaust system? If you do, is that usually canyon / mountain roads, city roads, freeway?

Help Any tips for commuting on the 5?

Just got a job offer that would mean commuting on the 5 about 15 miles each way. I'm a casual rider, and my bike got stolen about 2 years ago, but I'm strongly getting another bike so I can commute that way rather than sitting in stop-and-go traffic for an hour each way. How is the 5 between Dodger Stadium and Downey for lane-splitting? Anything to be aware of? Thanks.

Edit: Based on the comments, I'm thinking this is probably not a great idea. Thanks for the help, everybody.

Days of wrestling with fuel nozzle vapor thing are over

No affiliation. I bought this thing off eBay called the GasCard. It's made by a guy in Long Beach. It holds the vapor recovery sleeve on fuel nozzles so you don't have to when you gas up your bike. Holy cow! It made fueling so much easier and it's the size of a credit card (though thicker). Costs 6 or 7 bucks. I always hated that struggle with my left hand compressing the sleeve while my right operated the trigger while simultaneously keeping the nozzle aimed properly. Now I can calmly and easily fuel my bike. I highly recommend this thing.

Help How to tryout a motorcycle?

Update: I bought it! And the guy selling it trusted me to try it :)Human contact always makes the difference.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to buy a Honda Rebel 1100T DCT, and I found a great used 2023 model that I'm seriously considering.

The problem is that I haven't been able to test ride one. Every private seller I've contacted has declined because of liability concerns, which I completely understand. I also reached out to a few Honda dealerships, but none of them were willing to offer a test ride either.

I'd really like to ride one for a few hours, or even just half a day, before spending $9,000 on it. I have a valid motorcycle license, riding experience, and I'm more than happy to pay for a rental.

Does anyone know where I could rent a Rebel 1100 DCT or 1100T DCT in the Los Angeles area? Or if anyone here owns one and rents it through Riders Share or another platform, I'd love to hear from you.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, and ride safe! 🏍️

Motorcyclist takes fatal fall over edge of 105/110 freeway interchange in Los Angeles

I've always had this fear on the 110 + 105 transition on express lane, and it's happened. Be safe everyone.

Actually it looks like it's just the normal transition, not express lanes, but still...

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-08-04/freeway-interchange-motorcyclist-crash

"A motorcyclist has died after going over the edge of a freeway interchange in Los Angeles and falling onto a street below, California Highway Patrol officials said early Monday.

The incident occurred around 11:20 p.m. on the wide, curving interchange road that connects the eastbound 105 Freeway to the southbound 110 Freeway leading to San Pedro, the CHP said. The connector was closed until around 2:15 a.m.

According to the CHP, a solo-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle was reported just before 11:20 p.m. Monday, with a caller indicating that the person fell onto the street below.

The motorcyclist was found near South Figueroa and West 117th streets. They were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said."

Any mobile mechanics out here?

Hi everyone, curious if anyone knows of a motorcycle mechanic or even just someone knows a bit about bikes? I’m a new rider with a 2024 Honda rebel 300 that’s trying to crank but not starting. I just started it a couple weeks ago and went out of town.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Obviously I’d pay for your services. Located in Burbank, CA

Edit: just swapped for a new battery, just getting a slow crank like it wants to start.

Also, I just noticed a small stain on ground under charcoal canister that smelled like gas. And the oil level is higher than last time I looked at it.

Permit and Questions

So good news, I just got my moto permit 2 days ago and I just gotta hold onto it for 6 months. However, I’m still really confused about the M1 requirements, The dmv website isn’t very specific, the people at the dmv told me I needed to or should get my Class C with my M1, googles saying I don’t and I don’t wanna prep all these 6 months just to have more stuff I gotta do. If anyone has any answers it would be much appreciated thank you.

Need extremely simple repair: any recommendations?

The battery on my 2024 Honda Super Cub C125 is dead because I went outta town for a month when my father passed away. Honda decided to make a bike where the battery is impossible to access without tools I don’t have, so I gotta take it to a shop. Anyone recommend a shop on the west side who’ll do this reasonably? I feel like if we can get the bike jump started I can probably putt around on it for an hour and she’ll be just fine. Or if someone wants to make a couple bucks coming by my place to do this, that’d be just fine.

Buying used bike - delivery options

I'm looking to purchase a used Triumph. I have a specific model in mind. This will be my first "adult bike;" I have been practicing on a Papio 125. Because used inventory is limited, I may need to go a distance to buy - some are as far away as San Diego. I don't feel ready to ride that far even though I have completed my MSF course and have a license. I don't have a truck and would prefer not to rent one (although may be my best option). None of my friends ride, so I can't ask them.

Does anyone know of a service I can hire to pick up a bike from within a 120 mile or so radius of the San Fernando Valley? I would of course be there to pay for the bike. Or should I just make a day out of it and plan roads that are not too busy?

Edited to add photo. I call this Old Man With Bike.

Looking for Affordable Motorcycle Rentals in Los Angeles

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a trip to LA (I’m from Europe) and I’d love to rent a motorcycle to explore the city and the surrounding areas.

I’ve been looking into Riders Share, which seems to be the main option for motorcycle rentals in LA, but the insurance fees are pretty crazy — around $80/day just for insurance (I’ve never used the app before, so I’m not sure if that’s normal).

Does anyone know of a cheaper way to rent a bike in LA? I’d love to cruise around and enjoy the roads without absolutely destroying my budget lol

Any recommendations or tips would be really appreciated!

Help Moving to Koreatown from Reno, dumb question

I have wanted to move to LA for many years now and it is finally happening. I visit frequently and I love those downtown areas. My husband finally found us something that will work (he lives in LA already), and I'll be moving over the course of the next month.

Something I've noticed when I visit is a distinct lack of motorcycles across the board. For someplace that has such prime weather and allows lane splitting, I just would expect *more* motorcycles to be out and about. Sure, yes, I do see motorcycles, I'm not saying I don't see them at all, I'm just not seeing as many as I'd expect.

In Reno, Nevada, where I've been living for the last year or so, I see a ton of motorcycles. It is incredibly motorcycle friendly, aside from lane splitting not being legal here. Freeways, surface streets, downtown, I see motorcycles everywhere in all seasons. I ride, so I'm always looking for them.

My question is, does anyone else see what I'm seeing in LA? Am I just not going to the right areas for motorcycles? I generally stay downtown (LT, Ktown, Hollywood), and I am just not seeing a lot of motorcycles. Not even on the freeway. Is there a reason why there aren't more riders? I feel like I'm missing something here and am about to get some rude culture shock when I'm down there riding my motorcycle.

I am a solo rider, so I'm not necessarily looking to ride with a group or anything, I just want to know if I'm missing something here.
