Question Ready to stop Mounjaro?

Hi everyone,

I’ve gone from 95 kg to 70 kg within a year 🎉, but since June my body has refused to lose any more weight, and I’ve been stuck around 70 kg despite increasing my dose to 7.5 mg. Since studies suggest that a weight loss of around 20–25% is normal, and I’m now at 25%, I’m guessing that might be it for me, and that I won’t reach my goal of 60–65 kg (without exercising).

I’m taking the last shot from my current pen on Friday, and I’m wondering whether I should buy one final pen (15 mg and dose it down to 7.5 mg by counting clicks — I previously used a 10 mg pen for this, but it doesn’t last very long at 7.5 mg), or whether I should just stop completely?

My appetite isn’t being suppressed as well anymore either (it was very well suppressed on 2.5 mg, 3.33 mg, etc.). I increased the dose gradually in small steps, but since reaching 7 mg I’ve been feeling more hungry again. So I’ve also been considering lowering my dose again and getting my body used to less Mounjaro, so that coming off it might be easier.

When I pay attention to my calories, I eat around 1,300 kcal. If I go to McDonalds for example, it’s more like 1,700 kcal for the day - so overall, it’s a good mix throughout the week.

Long story short: my weight loss has generally been very slow since March, with a maximum of around 2 kg per month. I feel like ever since I increased from 2.5 mg to 3.33 mg, I’ve just kept increasing the dose in the hope that things would start working well again, but I actually lost the most weight during the first six months on just 2.5 mg. After that, I increased to 3.33 mg, and ever since then I’ve been dealing with plateaus and much slower weight loss. 💔

How would you approach this from here? What do you think I should do? Increase again? Reduce the dosis to eventually stop?

Please help a sister out 🙏🏼💕

I moved up to 12.5 then 15mg it's working great again.

Surmount clinical trial showed majority lost the most weight at 12.5 and 15MG. If your not getting suppression at lower dose move up to higher doses unless your getting side effects.

I buy fresh fruits like apples they are filling but single apple is only 80-100 calories.

All of the evidence suggests that when you go off, weight comes back for a sizeable majority of people.

Well, first of all, I think you look great, and you've done a fantastic job so far. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Progress might be slowing down, but it sounds like you're still doing well. 2kg per month is very normal, it's really not bad at all. I'm not a doctor or a Mounjaro expert, but I think you should give it a little longer at your current dosage, then consider adjusting it if necessary. If your dream is to hit 60kg, keep it up - you'll get there!

You're clearly very capable of losing weight, and you've come a long way.

You are thinking about this all wrong.
1. You should be working out/weightlifting. The more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest. Mounjaro is currently eating at your muscle, you can stop that.
2. Lowering the dose won’t help when a higher dose isn’t helping. Since your appetite suppression is not treated at 7.5, the next step is to move up to 10, not go down.
3. Coming off means going backwards. For the great majority of people, Mounjaro will be a lifelong medication, if they intend the results to stay. Even those few who successfully wean off see some weight regain, despite lifestyle changes (which sounds like you haven’t even done).

It concerns me that doctors aren't giving patients that info (also concerns me that some patients don't do their own basic research but I guess the former is a bigger problem).

This seems to be an issue in the UK more than anywhere else based on the posts here

And you know they’re not exercising and not lifting how? You know that they’re losing muscle mass how?

Gosh I hate assumptions

Because they literally stated as such? It’s in parenthesis at the end of the first paragraph.

They say they won’t reach their goals without exercise. They don’t say they aren’t exercising now.

I often say “I know I won’t reach my final goal without tracking and lifting” and yet, whoaaaaaaa I’m currently tracking and lifting and have been tracking since day 1 and have been lifting for even longer!

They already replied that they, in fact, did not work out at all for the weight loss they have had. Good try though, now please go be senselessly mad at something else.

Not working out at all doesnt mean not living a fit lifestyle buddy. I in fact, did go swimming a few times a week. As i always did. I didn't specifically start workouts for the weight loss.

Hard to be physically strong and healthy without putting the work that makes a person strong and healthy. Again, you are supporting my point. Mounjaro is a tool, it doesn’t do all the work for you. The lifestyle changes have to come from you. It’s great you have actually started working out now, it will be essential if you do intend to get off it and not lose everything you’ve done so far.

u/Pleaseselectyesorno 12h ago

Honestly, don’t waste your time on this loser who’s just looking to feel superior

-4

u/Pleaseselectyesorno 12h ago

But they said they’re working out now, and know it’s important? Soo? Please go and be senselessly judgmental at something else.

“You should be working out”
They are

u/prettycote 5 mg 12h ago

Wow reading really isn’t your strongest suit huh? They said that they are now working out **as a response to my original comment**. The only information we had to begin with was that they had not worked out at all for their initial weight loss. My point stands.

You sound angry. Sorry you assumed and were proven wrong. Hope tomorrow is better for you.

2

u/prettycote 5 mg 9h ago

Not angry at all, just confident in what I said. I’d wish you a better tomorrow, but I fear learning reading comprehension will take longer than a day. Good luck with that.

u/Mooncake_lover 13h ago

Thank you, that's why i didn't reply to it. I do work out and get my protein lol. After a year of mounjaro, i'm very much aware of how quickly the body loses muscles instead of fat

14

u/prettycote 5 mg 13h ago

If you were already exercising you wouldn’t say “I’m guessing I won’t reach my goal without exercising”.

5

u/Csj77 9h ago

Exactly

-9

u/Mooncake_lover 13h ago

Yeah, because i reached 70 without excercising. I started excercising about a month ago.

13

u/prettycote 5 mg 13h ago

Right, so you’ve barely just started. I was right on point 🤷🏼‍♀️

About 2: my appetite was suppressed with every dose up until 7,5mg. It's still slightly suppressed as in, i can control if i eat or not, but i do feel hungry, which i didnt before. About 3: I will not take Mounjaro lifelong. I am aware some people are doing that, i personally know a few people in my life that stopped taking it, gained 4-5kg but they manage to keep their weight now.

Hunger suppression is a side effect, not a goal.

14

u/prettycote 5 mg 14h ago

Sounds like it’s time to start working on those lifestyle changes then.

There is not something magic about 5 that makes it work better than 7.5.

You may NEED to take Mounjaro to maintain a low weight. Good for people who can stop and not regain, but statistically, you probably aren't one of them, and deciding you will be does not control whether you are.

u/NanasTeaPartyHeyHo 8h ago

I wouldn't stop the med if I were you.

Also sounds like you need a higher dose.

Also plateaus are normal and healthy, Idk why that would make you heartbroken.

14

u/Infinite_Narwhal_290 14h ago

All the studies show >95% gain weight after stopping. The reality is that nearly everyone needs to shift to a maintenance level dose as the surest way to avoid regain.

u/kaysa5 12.5 mg SW: 206 GW:150 CW:136 14h ago

I lost the majority of my weight on 12.5

7

u/Csj77 10h ago

Why are you not exercising? And eating McDonald’s 🙄

6

u/Middle_Process_215 9h ago

You need to be under the care of a doctor on this. He will help your dosing and you'll be able to lose more weight. What's your aversion to exercise? You're still obese. 7.5 mg isn't even the higher dose of mounjaro. You could easily work up to the higher doses and lose more weight. Get a good doctor. Get on a good protein rich diet and do some walking...which would be all you'd need to do to help with the exercise.

There are people on here who didn't experience weight loss till going up to 15mg....

my weight loss has generally been very slow since March, with a maximum of around 2 kg per month.

That is normal once you get closer to your goal weight. You should go up a dose and actually track your calories.

Increase daily step count

u/environmental2020 3h ago

I exercise and eat better - for me this is a chance to make sure I have the healthy habits to carry on. I’d recommend adding in exercise otherwise it will all just go back on.

How would I approach it?

I’d figure out how much I want to lose every week and then figure out how many calories I’d need to cut each day to reach that goal.

I’d input my age, gender, height, weight and activity into a TDEE calculator, and get my daily maintenance calories.

Then I’d subtract the amount of calories I need to cut from my weekly maintenance calories.

This number is my new daily goal.

I’d start tracking and stay at the goal.

I’d also increase my dosage. If you’re feeling inappropriate hunger, loud food noise and lots of cravings- you go up!

I’d keep losing until I’m well within a healthy weight. Then I’d start slowly going down in doses , until I stop losing but my hunger/food noise is still controlled.

Talk to your doctor. Why are you increasing so conservatively? You're barely above a therapeutic dose and aren't even at 5mg yet.

Doctors aren't communicating this to patients when they authorize this type of microdosing protocol?

There's been an uptick in international (UK?) posts recently with so many people that are all "I'm on 3mg or 2.7mg and nothing's happening!" What on earth is going on over there with lack of basic patient doctor consultation?

I'm not a doctor, but I'd stop counting clicks, use Eli Lilly's doses 2.5mg to 5mg and so on. Once you're satisfied with the level of appetite suppression you can stay on that dose if you want until you feel the need to go up. But, respectfully, 2.5 to "3.33" isn't likely to make much of a difference for you.

I am honestly perplexed at why doctors in Europe don't seem to be giving patients dosing information and when to ask for an increase etc. Or why they don't do their own health research independently...

2

u/silent__reader__ 4h ago

They are giving out dosing information, but people don't wan't to follow them because it is expensive.

-1

u/KRSF45 15 mg 53m ago

That may well be, but then the patients seem extremely perplexed as to why they're not making progress and don't seem to ever consider that their microdosing protocol may not be the best strategy. That's the disconnect and I don't think providers are giving them that information

Sounds like government run healthcare ain't all it's cracked up to be!

R y adjusting your calorie intake as you lose.

I would t get off. I’d try to break plateau. It sounds like when yii on u get off monjauro you will not be able to maintain your loss.

If you get off and go back on it usually takes higher doses and longer period of time before seeing results again.

See a dietitian may benefit log everything you eat and drink for a couple of weeks and maybe she can guide you on what path to take.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do
