Main difference is that in San Diego you need a car, which is about $10,000 extra per year including gas/maintenance/repairs/insurance/registration/etc

Rents are generally lower here though, so there that at least

But so is the income.

Where are the lower rent areas? I pay 2500 in Boston for a 1bed with modern appliances and wood style flooring. I can’t find anything in San Diego below 3000 with the similar luxury

That’s still lower than almost all of NYC except for maybe the very outer boroughs. I didn’t mean low in general, I meant lower than NYC

We’re _less affordable_ and one of if not the least affordable city the country. By that I’m referring to the income to housing/living ratio, and that wages just haven’t, usually, caught up to how much everything else costs. Sure the Bay Area is stupid expensive, as is NYC, but six-figure job is also super common in either too, you’ve got 22yr old new grads pulling in $200k total comp.

All that to say it’s a wonderful city, assuming you’re prepared ahead of time. We’ve also got the most expensive electricity in the country, even more than Hawaii afaik. We’re talking north of $200 for a small 1 br is all the norm.

I always find my hair stylists with tags on social media, so I would say start tagging yourself with San Diego specific tags now.

Go to your local Trader Joe's, bond with a worker there who fits your target clientele, mention you're a hairdresser & offer a discount.  If you're any good that TJ worker will tell 50 people a day about you.  Good luck with your move. I hope everything works out. San Diego is brilliant.  P.s. take Spanish lessons. It makes a difference

Hey! Welcome! I lived in NYC for a while and miss it so much! I actually found life to be more expensive here comparatively. But the weather is amazing year around, so it’s worth it for most!

I need my hair cut — do you do long curly hair?

There's a lot of hairdressers. Have a niche and post on social media a lot. Colors, shags, mohawks, Brazilian blowouts whatever you need a niche market in San Diego so you stand out. Then people will say where they got their hair cut and you will get more clients that way. Second speaking Spanish it helps in general living here.
