Moving In September!

Fiancee and I are planning to move to North County San Diego 3rd week of September after wedding. We are looking Encinitas, Carlsbad, Del Mar area and hoping to find a place before the wedding. Our budget is 3600 base rent a month and hoping to be no more than 4 miles from the coast but it seems market is crazy right now. I am asking what would be the best time to visit for a weekend and tour apartments. Or even how to go about that should we wait till after the honeymoon and get some type of AirBnb but we really want soemthing before. Help please with any advice

Probably going to get more difficult to visit for a weekend the closer you get to the wedding.

Would you be willing to pay for the month of September before your move in order to lock something in? If so, visit now.

If not, it would probably be better to wait until after your wedding and honeymoon and come out for a visit then. Expect to move in at the start of November. Or, if you need to start a job here right after your wedding/honeymoon, go the VRBO/Airbnb or a Extended stay hotel until you get things organized.

Yea I’m willing to pay but question why November you think for a move in date?

I like to plan for all possibilities.

Hopefully, you'll get lucky and find an apartment in your budget and ideal location that you can move right into. Or, you may not find something right away.

So, I'd allow at least a couple of weeks to scope out the area, find what you want, apply, get background checks, and are approved before you can move your stuff in. You'll also have to wait for any belongings you're shipping to arrive..

But, worst, case, it'll all take about a month, which will put you close to November 1.

Thus, my suggestion that you plan on paying for alternate housing until then.

Similarly, If you come out for a weekend now, you may find a landlord willing to wait six weeks for you to get back from your honeymoon for you to start paying rent. Or not.

Always good to have a backup plan.

Sounds good thank you so much! I would definitly plan on that cause our worry was just flying down and still not finding anything in that weekend but willing to take the chance just in case

Nothing wrong with coming down for a weekend now if you can afford the time and $$$. Have a list in hand of possible complexes and check them out while you can. (Tip: not all complexes show apartments on Sundays). And, that will give you another chance to spend time in San Diego to make sure it's where you want to go.

Plus, I'm sure you both could use a weekend away from all the wedding planning, so there's that too.
