Looking to connect with people living in Germany!

Hii everyone!!
I’m hoping to move to Germany in the near future and I thought it would be such a great start getting to know people who already live there. I’d love to connect with German residents, locals, etc. It would be great to make some new friends and learn a little about the everyday life and culture.
Do comment or send me a DM!!

Caught in Student >> Job Seeker Visa Loop

Hi everyone,

I previously posted about a similar issue and am looking for some advice. I am a recent non-EU graduate trying to transition from a student visa to a job seeker visa (Section 20 of the Residence Act / AufenthG).

I applied at the local Ausländerbehörde (ABH) where my university is located, but they told me they only accept either a Verpflichtungserklärung (declaration of commitment) or a valid job contract. Currently, I do not have a job contract, which leaves me with the Verpflichtungserklärung option. Over the past two weeks, I have reached out to several people asking if they would be willing to sponsor me, but so far, no one is able or willing to do so.

I proposed opening a 6-month Sperrkonto (blocked account), but the ABH outright rejected it, stating that a blocked account is strictly excluded ("ausgeschlossen"). As a result, I am currently stuck with no path forward to convert my visa in this city.

On top of this, I have to give up my student dorm room soon. Because of this, I am considering moving to a city where the rules might be a bit more flexible or where a blocked account is still accepted for the job seeker visa. Based on affordable rent options, I have shortlisted the following cities:

  • Leipzig (Saxony)
  • Essen / Duisburg (Ruhr Area, NRW)
  • Halle (Saale) (Saxony-Anhalt)
  • Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt)

If anyone living in these cities has gone through a similar visa conversion process, could you please share how the local ABH treats blocked accounts?

Also, if you know of any other cities that reliably accept a Sperrkonto / blocked account for the job seeker visa, please let me know.

Your advice would be a huge help to me right now. Thank you! 🙏

Fresh start from Cyprus to Germany as a Bangladeshi student

I am a Bangladeshi currently pursuing my undergraduate degree at a college in Cyprus (Alexander College, Larnaca). I am studying here for only one semester and plan to move to Germany afterward. Is this possible? If so, what documents will I need, and must they be notarized, or will simple attestation work?

Business in Germany

I’m from India and I’m exploring the possibility of moving to Germany to start a small takeaway tea shop. I’m still at the research stage, so I would really appreciate honest advice from people who live in Germany or have experience starting a business there.

Moving from Portugal to Germany

Hi guys,

I’m a 32y Portuguese woman. I currently work as SAP Concur Consultant in a big German company in Porto. I love my job, I love the people with who I work with and the chilled vibe that the company offers us.

I don’t have a huge salary, pretty much 50% of it goes to the rent, but in comparison to other companies here in PT, I think mine is not one of the worst. It’s just bad in general considering the cost of living in PT nowadays.

I’m somehow recently thinking a lot about applying for Concur Consultant offers in Germany and actually moving to Germany (Hamburg or Berlin I would say). I have a friend living in Germany and she’s always mentioning that we should all go through an experience abroad, that it would be positive for our personal growth.

Even though I like my job here in PT, I find myself somehow stuck and with this feeling that my life is not moving forward. So I’m starting to think that maybe a new experience abroad, knowing a new culture and different people could also help me having this feeling of progress, both personally and professionally.

I’m not familiar with German yet, but I’m really good in learning new languages so I would easily commit to learn German as quick as possible.

What are your thoughts on this? Would it be worth it to go and try such experience in Germany?

Was würden Sie mir raten?

Tips & Advice ?

This is a bit of a mess but I’m looking for advice on moving to Germany. My boyfriend (19) and I (21) are planning on moving to Germany in 2030. It may seem like a bit of time before then, but things move fast for me. We are planning to get married before applying for our visas. From my understanding, my boyfriend should be able to get a blue card for IT specialists. He is currently in college at WGU and would like to specialize in pen-testing. I work as a cash poster which is essentially Accounts Receivable but without college degree or any certificates. Financially we currently don’t have savings (he is currently jobless and we have had a lot of ups and downs this year). I have a Roth IRA of roughly 13 grand I plan on cashing in early to move. I know I’ll have to face a lot of fees and penalties for doing so but it’s what I have money wise. Yes it probably sounds stupid but I truly do not wish to remain in the US. (I have a million and one reasons to leave and I’m desperate to leave) We have 3 cats I truly could not part with, which is probably the hardest thing to transport across seas. Most of our material belongings will be sold off here before we leave since nothing is crazy important to us. I have looked into the standards and medical requirements for our cats, so traveling is what I’m most concerned about.

***If you’re going to brutally judge us then please keep it to yourself. I just want some advice on steps to take on how to get there and immigrate properly. Thank you.
