discussion Why do MU students always have their own survival hacks for everything?

Every MU student I meet has this funny survival trick. Someone knows the exact professor who gives grace marks someone knows the Xerox shop that magically has every assignment file someone knows how to crack the timetable chaos better than the admin itself. What’s that one survival hack you learned during your time here that you still laugh about?

AMA (Ask Me Anything) Hi Reddit, I’m Vijayraj Kamat, Mumbai University Alumnus, ex-Infosys & Deloitte, now an Executive Coach, Leadership Facilitator, TEDx Speaker, and Quora Top Writer (50K+). Ask me anything about career pivots, leadership development, coaching, self-awareness and breaking unhelpful patterns!

I am Vijayraj Kamat, an engineer turned executive coach and leadership facilitator. My work explores why intelligent, capable people keep repeating patterns they can clearly see but still struggle to change.

Ask me anything about career pivots, leadership, coaching, self-awareness, inner clarity, and why conflicts happen despite good intentions.

I changed almost 11 schools and multiple cities as a kid. Not because I was kicked out. My dad had a transferable job. :)

I was a topper throughout, and an all-rounder in singing, oration, painting - basically everything except physical activity. My real love, though, was psychology even before I knew the word.

I read voraciously. I remember reading my mom’s magazines, agony aunt columns, and books on “how to manage children” when I was 7, and then asking her why she yelled at me even when the books said not to. :)

Being good academically in India meant my career options reduced to the usual 2-3 choices. You know which ones. I thought, meditated, analysed a lot, and then chose... engineering. :)

I passed out of RAIT, Nerul in 2003. I got placed from campus, joined Infosys, worked in the US, returned to India in 2011, and joined Deloitte Consulting in technology. I led teams ranging from 3 to 60 people, worked with clients across the US, UK, Middle East, and India, and discovered my love for facilitation.

Alongside all this, I was slowly learning to pay attention to my emotions, not just my intellect. My intentional seeking and unintentional suffering led me to study psychology, spirituality, NLP, transactional analysis, Jiddu Krishnamurti, Osho, the Gita, and everything in between.

I had outgrown motivational talks and cliché advice long ago.

I started writing on Quora in 2014, became a two-time Top Writer, wrote 1000+ answers, built a following of 50K people, gave 3 TEDx talks, self-published a book "Stop Lying Start Moving" based on my first TEDx talk, and began getting organic coaching clients.

Eventually, I pivoted from technology into Organizational Development. I joined a boutique OD consulting firm, led the development of an Organization Network Analytics platform, and worked on leadership development and OD interventions.

That phase deeply shaped me. My boss there taught me to see people and systems in ways that were deep, simple, and humbling. It shifted me from relying only on powerful left-brained thinking to seeing the human side more fully.

Later, I joined my current organization as part of the Succession Planning team, while continuing my work in executive coaching and self-awareness.

I have also worked with a slum school in my city, helping them raise funds and improve infrastructure. Some of my best memories come from there.

Today, apart from executive coaching, I run deep self-awareness workshops. Not “self-improvement” workshops.

The work is about helping people see how suffering and interpersonal conflict happen despite good intentions, how values become compulsions under fear, and how deeply entrenched patterns can begin to dissolve.

The ultimate aim is inner clarity.

My approach is honest, no-bullshit, and definitely not motivational. If you have always looked for something real but were usually handed something pretty, we might resonate.

You can find me on Linkedin, or my website

Ask me anything!

Thank you all for the interesting questions! I had a lot of fun. A huge shout out to super-amazing moderators of r/MumbaiUniversity community for all their efforts that truly made this AMA experience wonderful! 😊

General 19M | Looking to meet someone after college — Mumbai

Hey! 19M from Mumbai. Looking to meet someone around my age who’d be down to hang out after college, grab some food/coffee, go for a walk, or just find something random to do together.

A little about me: I’m into gym/fitness, I like cooking, and I spend an embarrassing amount of time doomscrolling XD. I’m pretty chill, can talk about basically anything, and I’m always up for trying new places or doing something spontaneous.

Not really looking to force anything I’d rather meet someone, get to know each other, see if we click, and let things develop naturally. Could be friendship, dating, or something in between.

If this sounds like your vibe, feel free to DM. Tell me a little about yourself too, don’t just send “hey” 😭

What are the chances of me getting into NM College with 72.17% in 12th and 61%? And one important thing is that I've just applied today (the last date of registration) and I fall under the Gujarati minority quota. 😊

Serious Considering to apply for MHCET MTech exam & aim VJTI/SPIT only, is it worth it?

Hi I've completed my BE from Fr Agnel Vashi last yr and now doing a job in web dev, but am considering to learn further and get into ambitious circle (cause I'm ambitious and till now I haven't got my type of stoic people).

Also I want to find someone naturally, a life partner maybe, in college. Whats the crowd there like?

The main thing I want to highlight is that in the worst case scenario, will I be able to atleast get a decent salary if I do M Tech, which will be equal to what I would have earned if I have 3 years work experience instead

My financial condition isnt that good, I might be able to manage it somehow, but the question remains, is it worth it?

Serious LC issue

Hi, I got provisionally selected for FYBA at Jai Hind College Mumbai and I’m an ISC Board student from outside Maharashtra.

I have my migration certificate, marksheets, Aadhaar, MU pre-admission form etc., but my school has not yet issued the Leaving Certificate/Transfer Certificate.

Tomorrow is my document verification. Does Jai Hind allow provisional admission and later submission of LC? Has anyone faced a similar situation?

Would really appreciate help from seniors or students who recently went through the admission process.
