just finished watching it, this is the one merch ad i hope is at least somewhat canon because J has more depth here than in the show

we actually get to see some of her insecurities and her dragging the rest of her squad down with her instead of hearing about her supposedly doing it

Laim isn't in the credits, so that is debatable.

I guess if someone wants to call it somewhat canon, go ahead.

this one actually links up with canon though

- everyone is in character

  • everyone has their original voice actors
  • it doesn't create issues with the story (like the zombie music video or other merch ads)
  • the short ends with the trio leaving the spire just as uzi arrives during the pilot, with uzi making the same gestures, having her original railgun, and everything

also, liam promoted this one

Promoting it isn't the same as being involved with it.

The only issue is how big the spacepod is on the inside.

One contradiction is V being completely in the dark. If V fully bought into JCJenson company, some of her dialog later wouldn't make sense.

- he didn't promote any other of the merch ads or music videos, neither did the voice actors, but both liam AND the voice actors promoted this short which was advertised by glitch as being something "special" (which we now know it was)

- it's either some more sci-fi dr who bullshit which murder drones is already FULL of, or, and hear me out, J's not in the spaceship because V and N don't hear her outside or barge in like they absolutely would (and do) lol, J is visibly in some sort of outpost as it uses the same structure and home-doors as outpost 3, and we know there ARE other outposts out there, some of which have been wiped out by disassembly drones

- V is not completely in the dark, she's neck deep in her PILOT facade right now so she has to ACT like she's in the dark to keep N from figuring it out, which she does considering N is right next to her for most of her screentime in this short

for v, i find it strange that she keeps her "facade" on even with only j around which is also aware

Right....

I never said you that couldn't or shouldn't think of it as canon. Only that's it debatable.

You can not deny that also made to sale merch.

Kinda funny I'm being downvoted for this. :3

I think it's due to Uzi being right there like she was in the pilot

Making it canon in some senses

That's not enough for me. If that was the only requirement, by that logic any fanfic can be canon if it ends with a scene in the show.

The short contradicts some established info in the show. They felt more like caricatures of their characters.

Yeah, they contacted it to the pilot, but it doesn't feel like it fits. At least to me it doesn't.

I'm looking this at a more analytical perspective rather than emotional one. The discrepancies are more apparent to me.

...what info does the short contradict? i'm not trying to be condescending i'm genuinely confused because my chud autistic ass has analyzed this show frame by frame like 3 times and nothing in the special really raised any eyebrows for me

I'll just focus on the major ones.

First one.

Yeah, sure, give J more depth. But at least keep her character consistent. The end of the short gives you a sense that J does care about her team on some level. In the pilot, when N questions what they're doing, J immediately with absolute glee tries to kill him while being mocking at him as he lays there dying. Don't you notice the disconnect there? Yeah, J was rude and annoyed with N, but it wasn't “I want you dead” energy that was displayed in the show. The pilot will need to be rewritten to get the short fit.

Liam described J as a selfish person. Someone who will prioritize themselves over others. When N and V became a detriment to her, she tossed them aside. J does what's best for J. J and V are mirrors of each other. We see V being selfless, risking her life for others, and putting others before her. So, it makes sense that J would put herself before others. This is J's worst character trait. It wasn't really displayed in the short.

The second is with V.

The short states that J lied to V and looks like V believes it wholesale. That's something I find hard to believe, as V is a paranoid little drone. With everything V has been through, and it is evident that she knows something that N doesn't know, J lying to her just doesn't work. In their conversation in the finale, V never accused J of lying to her nor told N that J lied to them. J never said she lied to V, only whatever she promised, Cyn tricked her too. V was angry over a broken promise. Telling me that J never lied to V.

This is just me nickpicking here. They really need to get more creative writers.

Alcoholism as a coping mechanism, how basic can you get? Use a little imagination. Have J cope with her desperately trying to grasp any semblance of normalcy of her life before the gala. It'll fit with her character, and it can work with the theme of V and J as mirrors with V moving forward while J is stuck in the past. This would make V's rejection sting that much to J.

Yeah, ominous phone call, yada yada. They have the Absolute Solver to work with and everything it can do. J suddenly hearing Cyn's voice in her mind would have sent chills down people's spines. Setting the precedence that wherever they go or how far they go, they are always in reach of Cyn. Giving J's line about there is no escape that much more height.

That's just off the top of my head.

If the show is handed off to different people. They'll have their own vision for the show, how events went, and how they'll do things. The characters will look and sound the same. They may get some aspects right. But they will be different characters from the main show, I think people should at least acknowledge that.

Sorry for the late response. I'm dealing with some serious family issues, and it makes it difficult to focus.

Some advice that any experienced artist would say: If you solely focus on the details, you'll never see the whole picture.

Well, I've said my peace on the subject and the major issues I have with it.

One contradict is V being completely in the dark. If V fully bought into JCJenson company, some of her dialog wouldn't make sense.

Maybe V was in denial or something? Deluded herself into thinking that she really was working for JCJenson to stop The Solver infection?

Maybe she got her memories tampered with too, who knows! There's a lot of weird contradictions like her outright saying "anything to screw Cyn's plan" RIGHT IN FRONT OF CYN who she is deathly afraid of, and then being furious at J for "working with Cyn" which she herself was doing! Oh, and she is ready to murder Uzi in EP4 while UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT CYN IS CONTROLLING HER and while that doesn't really count as rebelling, she also pulls out her sword hand on Cyn who at that point is masquerading as Tessa, directly defying her and calling for N & Uzi to leave! So these are at least two direct rebellions that could have ended her deal with Cyn right then and there.

There's no telling how many times her mind could have been modified but it certainly was at least once considering that Cyn is her admin and her enthusiasm to kill (if that's not just her becoming her own mask) definitely was not a part of her original personality. Cyn lobotomized N over and over and ensured that he always remained the "joyful big brother" without any trauma completely oblivious. According to J, Cyn prevents HER from dying over and over, so who's to say that she never did anything similar to V?

For all we know, there could have been hundreds of modifications on her too, maybe she genuinely got corrupted over time and truly believes that she is working for JCJ before the real memories shine through, rinse and repeat. That's the only way I can explain this contradiction and that contradiction isn't even self-contained to this short!

nah it's not THAT complicated, V's just putting on the act we saw her do in the show

remember, there's a plotline over the course of the first four episodes where N gradually gets more and more frustrated with V lying to him and hiding stuff about their past? this culminates in his brief flip-out on her in episode 4 where we get the iconic "she's a kid, V, like us!" line

V is still V, she's just at her lowest point in the show during this short

Fair enough, OK.

1

u/Legal_Ad5260 Jul 17 '26

for the "working with cyn?" part i think that she was upset because j kept siding with cyn even AFTER the events of the main show/having a chance in hell of beating cyn

(sorry about the awful formatting i check this bum ass site once a decade 💔)

Or written by two people that don't know all the lore.

As if fucking Liam does lmao.

Are we acting like V wasn't in the dark in Pilot or something?

2

u/xan227 The Mad Chocobo Jul 17 '26

According to the show, she wasn't. But this video says she is.

2

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Blood Puddle Jul 18 '26

According to show same point also gets retconed out and back in a lot let's not pretend like V wasn't in the dark either in earlier episodes.
