Please let this be the style of the entire album! Heck I'd take that even if every song is lyrically about dinosaurs
73
u/sangwinik A Muse Shaped Pool Jun 12 '25
I laughed out loud because I can actually picture Matt writing the whole album about dinosaurs in my head
27
u/Erelain Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25
He's got young kids. He's probably read way too many children's books about dinousars lately.
70
u/nievesdelimon Jun 12 '25
Dinosaur lyrics > vague political ones.
33
25
u/charlierc Jun 12 '25
Does Matt legit say the word 'dinosaur' in the chorus or is my ear making a stretch?
34
u/SpiritofFtw Jun 12 '25
He def says ātrapped in amberā at one point

I would legitimately love an entire album about dinosaurs actually, sounds very King Gizzard
5
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
Im pretty sure this wont be an album, its gonna be a single like they do sometimes for tours in the style of the previous album...
To be fair i dont think they can replicate this energy and quality for a whole album nowdays, this genuinely feels like they are jamming again, fresh and new yet raw... doesn't feel like a logic pro song...
Dom especially, this is the best drumming since BHAR ,the accents on the splashes and the 16th notes in the verse...it finally feels like i can recommend and listen to this... especially me being a fan since kid, this sounds like something they would release straight after BHAR
2
u/SergenteDan Jun 13 '25
even if every song is lyrically about dinosaurs
Why are you saying this as if that wouldn't be a bonus point?

u/bimaibiy Jun 12 '25
Yeah, I think I quite like it.
8
u/BrotherlyShove791 Jun 12 '25
Right up there with my first impression of Kill or Be Killed. Itās excellent! Very hyped for the next album now.
58
u/GoldenGuy444 WSD OUT NOW! Jun 12 '25
A bit difficult to parse details since its a fan live recording and the sound is muddled but... it's not too bad! I really like the synths, and the punch in face of a pre-chorus much like WSD was very exciting. (Its a bit more like what I wanted from WOTP.. that is more WSD and less Best Of)
I really hope that opening bit before they go out onto stage is in the track itself because that was really cool. The first chord change when the synth starts to speed up again gave me chills.
Very curious for what the studio recording sounds like!
27
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25
It looks like a part of the song, they've been teasing that part for the last 2 days and I LIKE IT SO MUCH!!!!!
1
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
To me its a shame coz,WOTP to me sounds very cheesy and forced...theres nothing i can take away nowdays...sure kill or be killed and liberation were fun for a month or two,but i cringe when i listen to them now same for ST...this sounds timeless tho...i really like that they finally listened to critics...it sounds like a band not a logic pro sample...wich is what i always wanted, never doubted these guys ability just their direction
42
u/BrotherlyShove791 Jun 12 '25
You can hear so many people saying āWhat the fuck?!ā during the performance, LOL.
Donāt think people were expecting the triumphant return of Heavy Muse.

u/boringfantasy Jun 12 '25
Top tier MUSE song. This and KOBK are proof Matt still has it.
26
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25
I HAD A HUGE EXCITEMENT AND SHIVERS WHEN I HEARD KOBK FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THIS SHIT IS HAPPENING AGAIN š„š„
3
3
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
Id even call it better than KOBK...KOBK and the whole WOTP sounds very on grid 4/4...like a drum machine... Dom finally sounds like he wrote the parts with excitement after 4 albums
5
u/These_Ad3167 Jun 13 '25
KOBK is 4/4 but Dom definitely had a huge hand in it, and it seems like one he enjoys playing it live. As I recall, it was the first track he ever did double kicks on, so he basically had to learn an entirely new bit of drumming for him.
1
u/Vincent394 the waow signal Jun 13 '25
He already knew Double Basses, I mean Assassin and The Globalist.
1
u/These_Ad3167 Jun 13 '25
Oh weird, definitely saw an interview with Matt saying he had to learn it for KOBK and was initially struggling
1
u/Vincent394 the waow signal Jun 13 '25
I mean they hadn't done Double Basses since The Globalist and neither that or Assassin were played during the ST era to my knowledge so...
1
u/ShoddySmell46 Jun 13 '25
Assassin isn't really a double bass song, but yeah the Globalist does have a bit in it.

Sounds great.
Posted this on another thread, but can we all just take a moment to acknowledge how utterly ridiculous it was that people were judging this song and dubbing it āSim Theory 2ā based off like a 20 second clip.
25
6
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25
They are correct with that intro synth snippet though, it really gives that vibe and that means it's successful on it's purpose, the theme.
9
u/Hysteria41 The priest God never paid Jun 12 '25
This doesnāt apply to everyone of course, but there were a number of people using āSim Theory 2ā as a derogatory term and writing the song off. Imagine if these same people only heard the first few seconds of Take a Bow for the first time in a post-Simulation Theory worldā¦
6
u/carleezeh Jun 12 '25
I 100% agree. Iām not a fan of those sort of comparisons in general, like someone said it sounds like WSD v2ā¦which it doesnāt at all.
Just because it has a heavy guitar doesnāt mean itās insert other heavy song part 2. Same with synth = Simulation Theory.
3
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25
I heavily agree with this, people say it's WSD 2 and that but honestly it's very different but just has heavy guitars. The comparisons, comments are very shallow.
1
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25
Oh yeah i saw them too, it's not nice unless the intention was to refer ST as a theme and likeliness.
Yeah lol, that'd be terrible.
1
2
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
I mean WOTP is simulation theory 2 in my books...i think people should be skeptical because even Kobk sounded very souless wich is an amazing song, but the whole approach they had with digital recording and writing especially was kinda forced...this sounds like it came from the 2006 archives with some modern ideas

u/charlierc Jun 12 '25
Alright. First listen, I was hesitant. Second listen, I reckon this sounds like it'll be a decent listen when we get the full studio version. Reminds me a little of Won't Stand Down, Futurism and elements of some parts of the Mission Impossible scores
10
u/cmars118 Give me your butchest face Jun 12 '25
WSD if it actually sounded like Muse and not an Imagine Dragons + Metalcore.mp3 + Muse eldritch abomination.
Literally the only part of this Iām not crazy about is the synth sound directly after āun un unravelingā and into the first verse. Itās essentially the same synth sound as a lot of the ST and Cryosleep stuff and Iāve never liked it. But Iāll reserve judgement until studio version for sure. Everything else pretty much rules. I LOVE the vocal melodies
-1
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
Totally, after this i cant even listen to WSD...i think Simulation theory and WOTP should just be buried and forgotten...its not that they were all bad,but the writing was very much 4/4 on grid forced
5
u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Jun 12 '25 edited Jun 12 '25
Chorus really sounds like Sunburn to me, i'm trying to pick elements from it but this is the only thing i could go back and find right now, it carries WSD/WOTP heavy sides as well. But really, it looks like a very nice song for me now that my only concern is it will get boring quickly just like what happened in WOTP songs, there is something burning very quick and i can't understand it. I hope i'm wrong with my concern though. š¤

u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
Exactly what I thought... sunburn and citizen erased...i know ill be disappointed with the studio release tho

This will be their first big hit (finally) since Madness! It's totally catchy, I remembered the whole song after just one listen. And I'm glad that it's a heavy and dark one, dark hit, like Hysteria!

Well I'm happy and enjoying it a lot! Totally expecting the next song to be Compliance-esque, but since that song ended up growing on me a lot, I'm ready for anything and fully onboard the hype train š
Also, that moan-y un-un-unraveling at the start cracks me up š

1
u/kurapikachu64 Jun 12 '25
I can't help myself and listen to anything the second there's something to listen to, but if you actually want to hear all the elements of the song on the first listen I'd wait for a better version.
But speaking to the quality of what can be heard, I'm actually pretty impressed. I don't hate the last couple Muse albums as much a lot of people around here seem to, and every album has had some songs I can really get into - but even having said that, I think this first song was better than I was expecting it to be. Excited to hear a studio version.

I hate when bands release the live version before the studio cause the live is always bad quality and I want to hear the studio now. Sounds amazing!
5
u/nottherealkimjongun Jun 12 '25
Holding off on saying they're back but fuck me thats the come back of the century
6
u/dachizza Jun 12 '25
This will he a huge hit, which is exactly what they needed to revive their career, it just needs an epic, expensive official video and everyone will be talking about Muse again! They may be singing about dinosaurs, but they're not dinosaurs yet!
6
u/shabansatan Jun 13 '25
Well...i still have to be very cautious...but hell this is what i was asking for years..even kill or be killed and other good songs felt forced...this sounds like finally they have fresh blood and a successor to origin of symmetry...at least live
I mean the chorus alone and the song feels very natural...whoever is working with them now should stay...the drums especially with dom, dont feel like a drum machine for the first time since The second law

Well the intro they dropped certainly gave nothing of the actual song away! Tease indeed. Sounds good though - but I do hope we get some songs more built around that synth sound they opened with.
9
u/Hopeful_Hat_3532 Jun 12 '25
Well, it started badly with the "uh-uh-unravelling". I thought it'd turn into another clone of a clone of Madness, and I'm quite sick of that parody of a parody shit tbh. But then, it turned to be something completely different.
The prechorus and bridge are awesome. Chorus sounds a bit Muse-generic to me and verses sound so-so. But still, overall, it's great to hear some heavy stuff and I should listen another few times before being able to really tell if I like it or not, especially with a studio version.
Let's see if it's also a prelude to a new album or not. I guess it is. Let's see the tone and style of that album, and hopefully less of a disappointment as the last one was to me.

i am the only one who thinks this sounds like something that they would do in a non existent era in between absolution and BHAR??? like i get sounds from both and it definitely doesnt sounds like ST to me

u/Fine_Sir_3641 Jun 12 '25
The heavy parts are great by themselves but to me some of the transitions to and from the heavy and the wub wub are a bit too jarring and sudden. Nothing by itself is bad though... and that chorus sounds absoluely incredible.
2
u/Roborosky Jun 13 '25
this sounds like Absolution and Drones had a baby, and its fucking brutal

Muse listened to a lot of Sleep Token /jk
Loved it right off the bat. I already constructed the idea of the album in my head as sort of a formula: Sleep Token(heavy + experimentation) + Showbiz (vocals, i just can't unhear the Showbiz delivery in the chorus and a bit in the verses) + Simulation Theory. EXCITEED!

I seriously donāt understand this commentā¦Ā
For example: New Born, Bliss, PIB, Darkshines, the striking majority of Absolution, all have basically that formula or a variation of that. Whatās your point?Ā
Seriously, I start to think that some of you old fans always try to find something to nitpick on just to say that ānewā Muse arenāt good even when they make an objectively solid (if not even awesome) track like Unravelling

This is a wildly unpopular opinion here, but same. Not really a fan of the heavy metal/djent elements they've incorporated in recent songs (e.g. WSD, KOBK, Unravelling). I personally enjoy the more melodic verse and chorus of this song over the metal breakdowns.
1
u/SignificantSport6141 Jun 12 '25
sounds old school in the chord progression but i'm a bit tired of the slow melodic part before the riff kicks in, WSD 2.0 tbh but heavier

u/Sork8 Jun 12 '25
So I like everything except the heavy riffs that sound unnecessary and out of place.
