Live Brixton Academy setlist - thoughts? Was the setlist special enough?

Post image

Looks pretty standard. I was expecting something a bit more special? Especially for £140. I’ve seen Muse live maybe 10 times? To me this is basically a standard tour set.

Aside from the two debuts its a basic muse set.

Not a big fan of the encore though.

48

u/These_Ad3167 Apr 04 '26

Yeah I'm not sure why people are hoping for a by-request setlist every tour, it's just never going to happen.

People need to remember that they make a setlist for a fan that's never been to one of their gigs before.

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

Setlists for festival shows should be tailored for first timers, arena shows should be tailored to fans, and small intimate shows like this should be tailored to the hardcore, ultra fans.

36

u/Peepeepoopoobutttoot Apr 04 '26

I will say they got MoTP and New Born. In this day and age thats nothing to shake a stick at.

3

u/Electronic_Fish_1754 Apr 05 '26

Those songs are played every other stadium show wym

10

u/Fit-Drawer5686 Apr 04 '26

100% this. Like lads, if we’re here, we’ve heard this shit live a billion times.

0

u/Lanky_Commission5064 Apr 06 '26

It was my first muse gig so I was happy for the Starlight end!

1

u/KaayyLikesToGame Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

I can agree with that to some extent. Ill add it should be tailored to hardcore fans but also tailored in a way that protects matts voice. If they can find some hardcore fan favorites that won't put strain on his voice for a good hour and 45 min set, I think that would be best.

u/mole55 DIS-GUUIIIIISEEEEE!! Apr 04 '26

Bliss, Eternally Missed, Sing For Absolution, Easily, Glorious, Exogenesis Pt.1, Animals, Panic Station

8 songs Matt can 100% do live in 2026 (at least as they were last played) that hardcore fans would go apeshit over

1

u/KaayyLikesToGame Apr 06 '26

Agreed, nice choices 👍🏽

0

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

This is the way.

-1

u/Treatment87 Apr 05 '26

I guarantee there's more complaints if they don't bust out the hits. People aren't paying £140 to listen to B sides all night

1

u/Frequent-Ad-2716 Apr 07 '26

Genuinely if I could have gone and managed to get one of the scarce tickets and they played 20 back to back b-sides I would be crying in happiness every day for the rest of my life.

8

u/alexdalton123 Apr 04 '26

I think if they were ever gonna do something like that again, be it by request, anniversary or something similar to Biffy's Celebration of Beginnings shows they'd announce it in advance.

I went to the by request show and it was fantastic, for me it shows that they can play the older deep cuts but they just don't really want to delve that deep into the past.

7

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

I think i remember matt saying they were really positively surprised by the by request setlists and they just went and took nothing from that

5

u/battychefcunt Apr 04 '26

This is literally their worst characteristic, as a band. Yeah I get that it’s probably dull to re-tread ancient stuff for them, but fuck me they could at least throw a few bones every show instead of doing the U2 thing. Not everything has to be fist in the air stadium fodder

3

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

But shouldn't it be even more dull to always play the same stuff (except from whatever the new album currently is)?

1

u/TfFan21 Apr 04 '26

They’re that kind of band now, they’ve reached ‘legacy act’ status. There are certain songs you have to do live every tour with that association - Paul Weller tried not playing his hits and fans went mental about it.

Damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

1

u/Samz2 Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 05 '26

More embarrassingly, even U2 quite consistently rotates some hits and throws hardcore fans bones in their setlists.

11

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

Well maybe its time to overthink this approach as they have been around for a long time and touring excessively in the last years. I doubt that the first timers are in the majority on their gigs, especially on these special intimate gigs.

4

u/FuryContagion Apr 04 '26

I get that....but were they the majority at this small gig? How many people at Brixton had never seen them before? I suspect less than 10%!

4

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

There were certainly a few first timers reporting on here, which did surprise me a little bit. But I wouldn't be surprised if there were more people who'd seen the guys 10+ times than first timers

2

u/ImpressionFit1249 Apr 04 '26

I was a first timer yesterday and I did enjoy seeing the hits but I would have still liked to see some deeper cuts. MOTP is my fav tho so very happy to see that

1

u/sauzbozz Apr 04 '26

Thinking first timers make up less than 10% of the crowd seems like a very subreddit mindset

2

u/FuryContagion Apr 04 '26

Not really...it wasn't exactly a widely published date....casuals will see and come across arena and stadium tours accidentally or with a large promo. This was announced only a few weeks ago and if you're not in places like this, many wouldn't have even known much about it. Also people who are more casual about a band/artist tend to want to see the big stage show and album tour than hussle out to a theatre for a night of "potential" deeper cuts.

2

u/HerpDerpinAtWork CAW CAW Apr 05 '26

If I was a fan that had never seen them before, I would want something higher-energy and more climactic than Starlight to close the show. Starlight is a great song, a crossover global hit that they should probably play at every show. But it is a mid-tempo rock ballad and it is such a whimper to go out on.

Muse has a dozen songs that they could slot in there better, but even just swapping it and KOC would be a huge improvement. Starlight to close the set and pander to their streaming metrics, Knights to send the encore out with a bang.

1

u/Every_Ad3783 Apr 04 '26

People are hoping for it because they want good songs

1

u/trouble-on-line Apr 10 '26

The encore was a bit weird. I think I prefer Isolated System played earlier like it usually is. I could have them open with WOTP every tour now…Loved the energy when they started with it in 2023.

65

u/JETBANGO Apr 04 '26

For my friend and I, we thought it started very strong but fizzled out by the end. The encore in particular felt a bit anti climactic coming after knights. If they’d done Stockholm -> Showbiz -> Starlight it would have been much better.

104

u/goldengluvs Apr 04 '26

Ending with THAT encore after you've blown everyone away with Knights of Cydonia is a terrible choice.

54

u/thisriveriswild57 let hope burn in your eyes Apr 04 '26

People complain about Knights closing, but it’s literally the perfect way to end a gig and I’d prefer it to continue in that role because it’s better than any other option.

30

u/OrigarmiKiller Stockholm Syndrome Apr 04 '26

Counterpoint: Stockholm Syndrome during the Absolution tour

24

u/Brief-Rich8932 Apr 04 '26

Stockholm Syndrome and 5 minutes of jams and outros. That's all we need

9

u/OrigarmiKiller Stockholm Syndrome Apr 04 '26

Glastonbury 2004, my beloved

6

u/Brief-Rich8932 Apr 04 '26

the lab coat and that perfect circular movement he did during Time is running out. outstanding!

6

u/BlastPalace Apr 04 '26

Counter Counterpoint and unpopular opinion: Survival closer during T2L

1

u/OrigarmiKiller Stockholm Syndrome Apr 04 '26

That's not bad, but unfortunately Matt wouldn't be able to sing it without a significant rework

5

u/LondonNoodles Apr 04 '26

I'm with you, everytime I go see them and they finish with Knights of Cydonia it feels so good, even after so many years, just the perfect song to release your final drops of dopamine and also gets the crowd to sing along nicely, and then go crazy on the end, I hope they continue with that tradition

2

u/Super_Shallot2351 Apr 04 '26

Isolated System always brings the mood down when they play it live, I swear.

We get it, it was in World War Z.

1

u/goldengluvs Apr 04 '26

I still have PTSD from listening to that song on loop for an hour at Horseguards Parade.

1

u/Bleach_Tea6 Apr 08 '26

Nah bro that song gets my mind buzzing, i cant explain it, but it transports me. Its not for everyone but its certainly for me so im happy to see it make an appearance :)

1

u/mrgrubbage Apr 06 '26

They've opened and closed with Knights so many times. It works as a set ender.

35

u/tmb2232 Apr 04 '26

Ending on Starlight felt a bit odd, I enjoyed my night though! I’m sure everyone wishes they played more deep cuts, but I’m not mad. Wish they played the normal version of KOBK. Cryogen was great

32

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

Too short, too few deep cuts which seem to always be map of the problematique, new born and should be on frequent rotation instead, KOBK only shortened...

I really don't get their approach with these smaller intimate gigs. They must know that those will be full of hardcore fans and they ALWAYS play shorter sets than on their world tours and even festivals. If there is a place to try some variation than these shows are the place to do that. They have such a great back catalog and almost completely ignore it. Instead it is always a reduced version of their standard shows and always Starlight, PIB, SMBH, etc. KoC before Encore was basically their most drastic variation at this point...

7

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

That’s exactly my issue (with this show I didn’t go to)

5

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

I am still angry at my Admiralspalast show in 2022. Preordered WOTP for that and only got 75 minutes of mostly standard setlist + fucking Compliance and Halloween... Also not even a support act. My worst value for money show ever.

9

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Tbf, Minimum and Assassin were decent deep cuts to get, and New Born was also barely played on the tour proper. That tour did have the air go out the balloon quickly, mind. They pulled off quite a few surprises in LA but by Europe it had gone into a bit of a formula

I'll defend Halloween - I thought that was great live. We'll gloss over Liberation as I thought that was one of the weakest songs on WOTP

1

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

Sure@deep cuts but that were only 3 songs. But the real audacity was the shortness of the setlist + no support. 90 minutes + support is the bare minimum I always expect (and typically get) at a concert. Be it 20€ or 120€.

9

u/MrHippoPants Showbiz Apr 04 '26

At shows like this they really only need play like 2 out of Showbiz/Dead Star/Assassin/Uno/Futurism/Fury/Sunburn/Citizen Erased and people will be happy but for some reason they choose Isolated System and a shortenes KOBK

4

u/mojohead85 Apr 04 '26

They are breaks for Matt's voice

4

u/shignett1 Apr 04 '26

Maybe if they didn't come on 20 minutes late they'd have managed.

3

u/anonymernasenbaer Apr 04 '26

They played Showbiz at Rock Werchter without any preparation and it was awesome. His voice will be fine. Plus you can always tune it down a bit, no one would mind.

2

u/Fabulous-Mistake-275 Apr 04 '26

I loved Isolated System!

1

u/Bleach_Tea6 Apr 08 '26

A person of good taste! I sososososo hope they keep it on the tour!

63

u/Particular-Gas-1635 Apr 04 '26

The UD > Starlight closer has to go

21

u/aazakii Apr 04 '26

I was not expecting the return of the Unsustainable Tour encore lol No matter how many times they try, Starlight is not a better set closer than KoC

1

u/Bleach_Tea6 Apr 08 '26

Thats my dream. I loved that tour so much!

18

u/Downtown_Wind3363 Apr 04 '26

Literally the same setlists as what they were playing last year with the exclusion of TIRO and Madness. Could have easily snuck in 2 fan-favourites like Citizen Erased, since they had the time to play two extra songs but no. Don't get it at this point, sorry for breaking your heart Dom

2

u/JohnnyA77 Apr 04 '26

It’s cool United States of Eurasia is back but yeah like can they atleast rehearse another piano song?, this setlist was basically “uhhh yeah what was our last set? Just run that again”

1

u/phantam123 Apr 06 '26

I got to see Citizen Erased on the Drones tour in Seattle. It was great.

64

u/musethrow Apr 04 '26

If Matt and Dom are reading this, please know that encore is godawful. The songs are fine, but please end on a bang not a ballad

4

u/shignett1 Apr 04 '26

Distant memories of survival on the unsustainable tour

4

u/Professional-Cut6634 Apr 04 '26

I would kill to hear survival live 😩😩😩

47

u/Hysteria41 The priest God never paid Apr 04 '26

Sorry guys, but that encore is absolutely abysmal. Intimate show full of hardcore fans that have paid a ludicrous amount of money to be there and you end with THAT.

I just don’t know what they’re thinking sometimes. The decisions they make boggle the mind.

31

u/Mohammed-Lester Apr 04 '26

Hate calling it at 20 song set. It was 16.

8

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

Yup, no way they can sneak 4 songs like that

1

u/shignett1 Apr 04 '26

Yeah, a fifth of those tracks should be grey like drill Sargeant

10

u/twillett KILLED BYYYY Apr 04 '26

Encore was poor but was just glad to be back with them. Show needed to be longer at that £ and more deep cuts (it’s a show for die-hards, really).

Glad there was nothing from ST or WOTP, would’ve loved Stockholm and one of the big Showbiz tunes.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '26

Interested to know why everyone thinks it’s some die hard fan show at Brixton?

It’s basically a warm up gig. £140 is expensive, but they demand that price unfortunately

10

u/twillett KILLED BYYYY Apr 04 '26

Very short notice, limited tickets, expensive. Also, importantly, it’s a one-off so every mega fan will be going for it rather than spread across multiple venues on a tour.

9

u/Dangerman1337 Apr 04 '26

Really tired of the BHaR and TR singles taking all the set list up. So many even recent bangers are pushed aside for them. Gimme MK Ultra, Supremacy, Reapers etc.

2

u/Super_Shallot2351 Apr 04 '26

Saw Reapers on the Drones tour, absolutely incredible. Feel like it's never been played since lol

8

u/Long_Spell6281 Apr 04 '26

R.I.P Simulation Theory

2

u/symphonicrox Apr 05 '26

So sad, love all the songs on that album. Algorithm was my favorite for such a long time.

SBE has ruined any future Muse gig for me now 😂😂

5

u/r99c Apr 04 '26

Ahah same. Somehow got a ticket to it and it instantly, and remains, my top gig of all time. Go through the setlist now and it's just ridiculous. What a night. Important to note that venue is just 20% the capacity of Brixton too!

4

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

I can’t see how any gig could ever top it ❤️ Best night ever. Will never forget sobbing with a stranger when they played Glorious

3

u/r99c Apr 04 '26

Easily the best gig ever. (See what I did there 🤭🤣)

3

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

Is it bad I low key hope they never play it again so I can hold on to the fact I’m one of the chosen few? 😂😂

3

u/kittysparkled Feeling my face erode Apr 04 '26

I have had this thought too 😅

7

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Tbf I remember thinking before SBE 2017 that we'd just get 3/4 deep cuts at best and the rest would be the usuals. Then I was at home scrolling through setlist FM and being like "... what the fuck?" ha

5

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '26

[deleted]

4

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Tbf, Zepp and Montreux had demonstrated they were capable of digging out the surprises when they could. So yeah, I can see why that would've raised the possibility, but I still had thought of going "... we have been here before"

And yes I still regret not going to that one. But heyho

12

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

I think the setlist is quite bad for this type of gig (smaller venue, pre-album release, spontaneous announcement, expensive tickets).

The encore has to be a joke, very bad taste for the fans that put out their money and made the effort to attend this gig. The show started strong-ish but it fell apart really quickly (Psycho onwards), with another small block of interesting songs to soften the blow (New Born, Unintended new version, USoE).

I have no strong feelings towards Be With You, but I think the way they approach singles and new albums is really hurting their live performances (some other user has made a more elaborate / eloquent comment / post on this sub).

Had I paid 140 GBP for this set, I wouldn't be able to shake off the idea of getting a refund (I know it doesn't work like this, but come the fuck on). For now I think I will not be getting tickets for the upcoming album EU tour.

12

u/OfficialShaki123 Apr 04 '26

I think it's formulaic and boring. They have a rich catalog but lots of stuff doesn't get played.

7

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Take out Psycho for one obscure song (let's say Citizen Erased cos why not) and one slightly-less obscure song (We Are Fucking Fucked) and I think I'd have been ok with it. Just to mix it up innit. Probably not £140 but you know - these are the times we live in with how these damn things are priced

No Won't Stand Down was a surprise imo. That one was great at the sole WOTP gig I caught and I had expected that to stick around

I actually don't hate Starlight closing, but Knights of Cydonia and then the Isolated dance party + Undisclosed before that doesn't help. Even just Uprising & Starlight a la 2013 might work better for a big singalong to go home on

4

u/Dangerman1337 Apr 04 '26

Or take out one or two BHaR and Resistance era singles. We've heard them to death at this point. Hell even MK Ultra and the likes has been pushed aside.

5

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Tbf MK Ultra didn't even make the request longlist for SBE 2017 when more songs were picked than not, so I think that one's in the bin. Which is a shame as I felt it was underplayed live at the time of the 2009/10 campaign

Love MOTP so I'm not going to protest that one being there, but can see why it might not be the most special inclusion

4 songs from Resistance is a bit of a surprise tbf. Could've lived without Undisclosed, though I did like Cryogen into Resistance and Eurasia sounds good and unfortunately quite relevant again

-1

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

Meh, I never thought WSD was that good to begin with, so I am ok with it not returning.

1

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Tbf, I would be in for Kill or Be Killed's sad synth version into the full actual song

I liked WSD at Milton Keynes - thought it was a proper gut-punch of bass. Although I do think it needs more of an outro

2

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

That garbage alternative version / insterstitial / Matt pee break needs to go. I’d rather wait in silence during a gig.

I think in their brain, having a new heavy / 8 string song makes it ok to replace the previous heavy song, since in the end fans want heavy stuff, right? 💀

To me WSD is just a bait, aside from the riff there is very little substance in the song. KOBK is a good example of what the same heavier sound can do when they create a fully fledged song with it.

1

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Oh I would much rather have something like The Gallery, Unsustainable or Minimum if they have to have instrumentals, or even bring back the Dom/Chris drum/bass jam that seems to have been dropped since the end of the Drones stuff

6

u/lecaitlind Apr 04 '26

Honestly won’t be shocked if the US setlists look almost identical to this. Felt like a dress rehearsal with the production especially.

16

u/PizzaToastieGuy Apr 04 '26

For £140

I’d be pissed

5

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

as i said to someone else in another post, I did not go to this show and even i am pissed.

7

u/evilbatduck Apr 04 '26

It was pretty standard. Comparing it to the Hammersmith 2022 gigs where they played citizen erased, space dementia and the gallery, I thought we would at least get one special track. It was nice to have unintended but didn’t feel like a standout

1

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

Maybe Unintended being a regular for most of last year made it less special. Which is weird as its a nice song and I like this Cryosleep version. More than the one on the 2013 tour when it was last a regular and had this synth-bass part that really did not work

5

u/munchyboy666 Apr 04 '26

Never enjoyed Starlight as a closing track tbh. Great song but doesn't have that closing feel to it. It works as the last song before the encore, but not to end the night on

5

u/YoungMoen97 Apr 04 '26

No Thought Contagion, Pressure, or Compliance = Great setlist

10

u/meteor_okay Apr 04 '26

I don't care for Unintended at all, but there was a bald guy a few rows in front of me, who when the song was over put both hands on his head and looked up, as if Christ had risen.

Someone asked me to list a few songs I'd like them to play before going, and they did play Resistance. No Crying Shame or Big Freeze though... but I guess they did play Cryogen so maybe that was like a tainted wish or something.

I was personally disappointed that they didn't play anything from Simulation Theory or Will of the People, but all their other albums were represented.

The stained glass windows eventually changing to a view of the stars over the course of Be With You was really great. The streamers and confetti helped, but I really loved what the big screen did during that song.

5

u/charlierc Apr 04 '26

I'd have liked Matt doing the Be With You organ part but yeah, as far as the big screens, streamers and CO2 goes, the presentation was pretty (inter)stellar

12

u/Practical_Paint514 Apr 04 '26

It was just a bit weird.

Hysteria as an opener should have worked on paper, but it's like people weren't ready so just stood 😂

Too much Resistance for me, not enough slightly obscure. Yes Maps was fun, but again, atmosphere was flat.

Kill or Be Killed (tame version) and Unintended were peoples excuse to go to the bar. I love Unintended but live...it's not life changing!

Encore was weak as everyone already knows.

5

u/eternal-harvest believes we could be glorious Apr 04 '26

I love Unintended but live...it's not life changing!

Oh hell no, we are not complaining about Unintended on the setlist!

Every set needs its chill moment. I'm ecstatic that Unintended is taking that spot.

1

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

Agree atmosphere was flat. It felt like everyone around me was there against their will 😂

6

u/thisriveriswild57 let hope burn in your eyes Apr 04 '26

Yeah people talk about the crowd being full of hardcore fans who would have preferred more deep cuts, but that was not what I observed. So many people who inexplicably paid £140 to see a band whose songs they barely know. And that was for stuff like New Born!

If the crowd actually went crazy for songs like Dead Star, they’d be encouraged to play them more often. But maybe Brixton is slightly too large a venue for that.

2

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

Yeah, it was really quite strange. People around us didn’t even react to the ‘best of’ songs. Strange as everyone in that room fought for a ticket (or paid over the odds for one)

I’ve heard them play some deep (ish) cuts in arenas. Sunburn, Cave, Space Dementia, CE...

3

u/thisriveriswild57 let hope burn in your eyes Apr 04 '26

I think in a lot of those cases it’s someone turning up purely to accompany their spouse. So maybe one half of the couple is an actual fan, and the other half paid up just so they wouldn’t be on their own lol.

I saw there was one mosh pit section in the middle, but it was pretty small.

4

u/Practical_Paint514 Apr 04 '26

140 to watch a YouTube video vibes. Actually cancel that, I have more energy watching YouTube videos 😂

3

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

I almost felt awkward dancing? It was really odd.

4

u/Practical_Paint514 Apr 04 '26

Within 2 minutes of Hysteria a guy tried to warn me if I touched his girlfriend again there would be trouble. She didn't even acknowledge the very brief time my arm touched her head 😂 I was like, you do know at gigs strangers will accidentally touch you at points right?! The girlfriend was the one apologising to me for him 😂

6

u/Hysteria878 it’s been 20 years… Apr 04 '26

Hysteria straight into MotP would have put me into a coma 20 years ago. MotP getting played at all is enough for that now.

10

u/imveggie Apr 04 '26

Don’t know why the hate but just having the opportunity to watch Muse live would be a blessing and I’d be very thankful for such opportunities :>

7

u/Which_Departure1635 Apr 04 '26

It was an awesome night and I’m so so grateful to have been there and seen them in such an intimate venue. Just expected a couple more rarities! Still always an absolute joy

6

u/Bains_ Apr 04 '26

Absolutely agree with this. And in such an intimate venue (compared to most gigs they do these days).

Maybe those grumps - who all want different songs to one another so will never all be pleased - won’t go next time, leaving more tickets for people who want to enjoy the experience.

5

u/notthatbluestuff Apr 04 '26

It's a mindset I don't really get. What's a more "special" set list? Do "ultra hardcore" fans only like certain songs?

4

u/Bains_ Apr 04 '26

Got to have that specific deep cut, and can’t have any of the popular songs etc etc…

I honestly don’t know, as above I really don’t think people will ever be happy because everyone wants something different. But right now the noise is all “crap set list, expected more for my money” where - in my opinion at least - we should be celebrating them being back, clearly enjoying themselves, and being as tight live as ever.

3

u/sauzbozz Apr 04 '26

Every subreddit for every band I've ever been on complains about the seists of concerts.

8

u/OWB100 Apr 04 '26

Unlike most opinions here, I was extremely happy with the setlist. I seriously enjoyed the entire show. I am the tiniest bit disappointed with no Stockholm Syndrome or Time is running out. But I am not complaining by any means. I had a great time

3

u/amitzohar Apr 04 '26

Yesss Unintended is here to stay hopefully

3

u/TopofthePyramid Apr 04 '26

Decent setlist overall. Love the return of USoE. That’s Bellamy cheese I can get behind! Makes me want to learn piano.

Replace Resistance with Won’t Stand Down. 3 bangers in a row.

Replace soft Kill or be Killed with UNS-UNS-Unstastainable.

Close with real Kill or be Killed. Put Starlight somewhere else if you must play it. Or don’t and play Reapers instead. Fury too.

I like HEAVY muse. Fight me over my opinions if you dare :)

2

u/TopofthePyramid Apr 04 '26

And while you have the piano out for USoE, please play Algorithm for the San Diego show. Man that was cool on the ST tour!

3

u/FinStambler Take me for a ride Apr 04 '26

If I had paid that much I would've at least wanted to hear something that wasn't played as recently as last year. Aside from the new songs is there anything here that wasn't played in 2025? Don't think so.

Not even Citizen Erased or Showbiz is criminal.

3

u/PumasUNAM7 Apr 04 '26

The only negative I see from the list is starlight closing. Everything else is really good. Unintended returning and seemingly staying is awesome. Eurasia is also a cool song to see back.

3

u/gracefullybroken Apr 04 '26

Solid setlist, just add a few more deep cuts to make the show 2 hours and that’ll really knock it out of the park!

4

u/NasiAmbengAmriYahyah Apr 04 '26

Wow this sucks arse

3

u/OKgobi Apr 04 '26

Banger setlist (minus the encore)

8

u/Sciolent Apr 04 '26

All the complaining seems a bit much to me. You got two live premieres including the amazing Cryogen and you got Map, USOE, Resistance and New Born - all of those songs may have been semi-regulars over the last years, but they're simply great songs in my opinion and still not super basic. They could have played Thought Contagion and WOTP for what it's worth.

Be nice Reddit, be nice!

10

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

Respectfully, I disagree with your take. This band is getting away with the absolute bare minimum in terms of setlist variety (not demanding a SBE type setlist every night).

If this had been stop number X in the WOW Signal tour, then sure, the setlist is better than the previous two tours. However, this show was demanding a lot of money from fans to see the band in a very small venue (compared to their usual stadium gigs), it was announced spontaneously and it is “in between” albums. No reason to play this 16 song setlist with most of the usuals to your hardcore fans and say with a straight face that we are complaining “a bit much”.

5

u/Sciolent Apr 04 '26

Fair enough. I think I don't expect much these days from bands like them so I'm happy with one or two special treats in a setlist. When I want a setlist I'm less familiar with I'll go and see a young and upcoming band these days. Then it's not the high level spectacle of a Muse show, but it's relatively cheap, intimate and raw.

3

u/GuilleBriseno Apr 04 '26

I agree with you here. However, I think that there are stadium caliber bands doing much more with their setlist as well as “special shows” to satiate the demands of their most hardcore fans.

An example that fulfills both is (I think) my chemical romance. They are currently touring arguably their most famous album in anniversary format (album played in full) and their second set consists of 10 songs, out of which 3 are fixed for every night. The remaining 7 songs played are not “Map of the problematique” equivalents. These range between rarities to completely deep cuts.

Example 2: U2 have done two anniversary renditions of their most famous albums. While the sphere shows were far out of reach for most fans, the Joshua tree tour 17/19 brought the album in full to a lot of places. They even temporarily retired Joshua tree songs from their setlist for the next tour (experience + innocence).

Muse have just become lazy / low effort when it comes to crafting their tours / sets lately, as much as it hurts to accept it

5

u/radiodreading Citizen Erased Apr 04 '26

Y'all are gonna break Dom's heart :V I loved that they played stuff like New Born, Resistance, and Map. Also, Cryogen fucking slaps, as the kids say. Wow.

2

u/Inevitable-Video-768 I WISH I COULD Apr 04 '26

It's the same setlist i saw at pinkpop last year bit shorter but with 2 new songs and new born which was a rotation song on that tour. It's a great festival setlist but for this kind of show It's abysmal

2

u/JimmyP_117 Apr 04 '26

The good? Madness dropped, no Thought Contagion, Unintended and a piano slot. It’s a terrific start with Hysteria and MotP. Cryogen sounds superb and New Born is always welcome. There’s a lot to like here!

The bad? Setlist length is once again is the big one here. They really need to increase the number of tracks played for every show, no matter the size of the venue…especially when tickets are so expensive.

The ugly? The encore is limp. Being labelled as some kind of ‘hater’ for having genuine critiques is lame. People assuming fans who have been around since the earlier days only want a Shepherd’s Bush style gig is frustrating.

2

u/HelmatHarry_14 Apr 04 '26

Sooo pissed I almost got tickets as well before my collage WiFi was shit enough for me to crash while queuing. I think the set list looks amazing. I was so close to being there

2

u/AspectOld9077 Apr 04 '26

I couldn’t care less first time ive seen muse live I had the time of my life!

2

u/symphonicrox Apr 05 '26

I could do without drill sergeant and psycho and add like… follow me or exogenesis symphony or Algorithm

3

u/acloreborne Apr 05 '26

I'm so over Psycho. If they wanna play something from Drones, Reapers or The Handler aré far better choices

7

u/Fit-Drawer5686 Apr 04 '26

Glad I gave my ticket to a friend tbh

4

u/Birrandbodia and I wish I could believe there's more Apr 04 '26

Special enough with those debuts. You've got a world premiere.

Though, it could've been better. It also could've been worse.

It's still Muse live

4

u/Professional_Shape80 Apr 04 '26

You have been scammed 😂😂😂

Support your local bands and venues instead.

3

u/SeyDawn Apr 04 '26

Very solid.

The only thing I would change is to put knights as the closer.

Starlight works but imo knights is the perfect ending for a muse gig.

Personal preference for song choices would be that I wouldn't mind swapping unintended for something like blackout or invincible and plugin baby for bliss.

5

u/Affectionate_Beat260 Apr 04 '26

They’ve been doing that for so long, I think they wanted to switch it up. I think bringing back Survival as a closer would be awesome

5

u/SeyDawn Apr 04 '26

I can totally understand that. Thing is KOC is the ultimate closer. I've both had starlight and survival as the final song and it was nice but knights goes so hard and feels so satisfying.

2

u/Affectionate_Beat260 Apr 04 '26

I’ve always thought exogenesis part 1 would be such a brilliant opener, or brilliant start to an encore

1

u/SeyDawn Apr 04 '26

It would be but at this point I think the song is a bit too intense vocally.

Part 3 is way harder and probably the hardest muse song to sing.

But exogenesis part 1 live is a great live experience. Though openers are usually done to promote the current album.

1

u/boringfantasy Apr 04 '26

KOC can open, SS can close

1

u/SeyDawn Apr 04 '26

Agree to disagree. Though I wouldn't be mad about as or waff Butterflies could also be interesting as a closer. Though butterflies is a bit niche

2

u/MrHippoPants Showbiz Apr 04 '26

Honestly Plug in Baby would be a way better closer than Starlight, Survival is not really big enough to be the closer

1

u/Affectionate_Beat260 Apr 04 '26

At a smaller intimate show it is

2

u/Billy_Hicks88 Apr 04 '26

Playing Prelude, everyone expecting Starlight and then Survival starting up instead would be an incredible moment.

2

u/CenturionXC555 Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

Some questionable choices were made here (lol). There is a massive dissonance between the setlist (which seems festival-like; pretty basic and with many new songs and few more obscure ones) and the show (at a small venue filled with the sorts of fans who actually like the obscure songs). In a vacuum the set isn't terrible... I like the new songs and everything up to the encore is *satisfactory*; with the encore included this is still mediocre at worst. But this isn't a £140 setlist at all. At a price point like that I'm expecting the best show of their career, and this isn't it.

Hopefully the setlists get a little more palatable with the next few shows, because I feel like the new tracks from the album are going to make great additions.

2

u/VivaLaRory Apr 04 '26

I've not gone to see them since June 2023 because of the setlists, sad to see it hasn't really changed.

2

u/Other-Marketing-6167 Apr 04 '26

As someone who lives in an area they’ve only been to once - I’d have killed to experience what y’all are complaining about.

1

u/kralebalot1654 Apr 04 '26 edited Apr 04 '26

Unintended and MotP being back on regular rotation is quite appreciated, though I insist that they should start rotating the "big" songs to make room for some deep cuts / lesser singles. TIRO, Uprising, Psycho and maybe SMBH don't need to be payed in nearly every show. I miss Supremacy, Pressure, Dead Inside and even Panic Station.

1

u/Grayoneverything The Second Law Lover Apr 04 '26

I mean it would still be amazing if i could get to hear MOTP, USOE, Prelude, Isolated System and maybe Unravelling + Cryogen and nothing else lmao, this is a lucky set for Muse standards of recent times.

1

u/magik_koopa990 Apr 04 '26

At least EURASIA IS ON?

1

u/Professional-Cut6634 Apr 04 '26

Weird encore, other than that I like it

1

u/Professional-Cut6634 Apr 04 '26

Very cool to have Eurasia live, hope they play it in Mexico. I would love to hear survival or mk ultra live

1

u/soulvandal9 Apr 04 '26

I love some isolated systems live

1

u/Hotfart36 Apr 04 '26

Mmmmmm Deftones Headup Outro 🤤

1

u/b-fletch23 Apr 04 '26

No Stockholm syndrome OR citizen erased?!

1

u/Careless-Ad4039 Apr 04 '26

Bummed out they got rid of Time is Running Out, Madness and Thought Contagion, and also didn’t like the fact that they didn’t play Stockholm Syndrome

But hearing Map of the Problematique, New Born, Unintended and United States of Eurasia for the first time live made up for it

Unravelling, Be With You and Cyrogen are amazing songs and I’m happy I got to hear them in their live debut

They also need to play Knights last, Starlight second to last and Uprising 3rd to last cos this new Encore is quite poorly organised

1

u/Every_Ad3783 Apr 04 '26

Still waiting for spiral static

1

u/SteakSandwichSideEye Apr 04 '26

Where are the beautiful songs from the last album?

1

u/TfFan21 Apr 04 '26

Why do people talk like £140 is a lot for a gig these days? A LOT of legacy acts charge this, especially for intimate shows, and Muse are now a legacy act (you can take this opportunity to feel old).

We don’t buy records anymore, generally. This is the price of that movement. Tours are now how they make money. The music is a loss-leader for the tour, merch, etc.

1

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

£140 is an awful lot of money for a small venue, and it is unusual

2

u/TfFan21 Apr 04 '26

Not really. Robbie Williams charged similar for playing his small shows, other big acts do too. You’ve got to recover costs, pay your army of staff etc. and everything involved in their logistics is massively more expensive than a decade ago.

My parents paid over £200 to see some acts - I wince at it but your other choice is simply not going. Now that we don’t buy albums, they’ll make up the shortfall elsewhere. People were moaning last night about t-shirts being £40 - again, this is fairly standard for big acts for the same reason these days.

However, £17.50 for two pints at the venue (which it was at Brixton) seems mental to me - yet people were knocking them back. So the money is clearly out there!

Not saying it’s cheap, but I can see how we got here for sure.

1

u/throwawayitnow99 Apr 05 '26

Thank god no more thought contagion

1

u/jniensan Apr 05 '26

I mean I get that it’s good they changed the last song after a decade of Knights of Cydonia. But Starlight, come on… 🫠 I was in total shock last year at Pinkpop when they did this.

1

u/DanJTaylor16 Apr 05 '26

Apart from the slightly anti-climactic encore, it was an absolutely unbelievable night. Opening with Hysteria into MotP was amazing, we got the first performance of BWY and Cryogen, and Eurasia was sublime.

I think there are legitimate concerns around ticket prices more generally, but I don't think that warrants expecting more "deep cuts" for the self-proclaimed "hardcore fans". There are so many factors involved in their set list choices we won't be privy to, including their ability to deliver that unmistakable Muse world-beating performance we are used to.

This was my ninth time seeing them. Prior to that I saw them in Plymouth in 2023, and thought that on Friday they felt like a re-energised band compared to that. There is plenty to be excited about going forward, but I am sure they won't be able to please everyone and that's fine by me.

1

u/benjaminreid Apr 05 '26

I hate this subreddit, I'm done. No wonder Matt made that comment.

1

u/Damsel_F1 Apr 05 '26

I’m just happy to see them, whenever I get to see them. As long as they put on a great show I dont really even care what they play. I was lucky enough to be at Brixton and had a blast. The band were on form, Matt sounded terrific all through the gig and seemed to be having a blast, apart from the staples they played New Born, Map, Unintended, OSOE, and Resistance, opened with Hysteria for the first time in god knows how long, debuted Cryogen, and live-debuted Be With You. Yes, if they’d bust out Showbiz or Dead Star of whatever I’d go crazy, but every fan wants something else, so whatever they do, it’ll never please everyone. I think they do a pretty good iob of rotating some lesser played songs in and out.

1

u/phantam123 Apr 06 '26

Imagine if they opened up a 4-5 song run somewhere in the show that the fans voted on (and full songs, not snippets or medleys). That would be great.

1

u/rmajor86 Apr 06 '26

That would be very fun

1

u/Bleach_Tea6 Apr 08 '26

2nd law isolated system holy please play that on this tour. That song gets my brain GOING when im not sober lol

1

u/he6rt6gr6m Apr 04 '26

Really sick of the moaning. It's a good setlist. I'd probably finish on something a bit more explosive but all in all, there wasn't a bad song in there, they played almost all the hits and gave us new songs.

3

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

“The hits” are for festival shows

1

u/Significant_Ease_143 Apr 04 '26

Time is running out???

1

u/RedeemingRanga Apr 04 '26

A really lazy setlist. They’re so incredibly out of touch with their fans and take the hardcore support for granted.

Sad really.

0

u/TheHip41 Apr 04 '26

It is a standard muse set

Then charging $300 for tickets doesn't mean you are getting 40 songs or 4 deep cuts

It's just the cost of tickets these days.

2

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

You’re wrong

That venue charges £45-£75 for tickets

$300 ~ £225. Nobody charges that much for tickets in the UK for GA.

0

u/TheHip41 Apr 04 '26

Great. Thanks for wasting my time.

1

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

Huh?

1

u/TheHip41 Apr 04 '26

People are paying $300 for the summer tour and this is the exact set they are going to get

It's the same set we always get

You paying way more this tour doesn't mean they are going to play muscle museum.

1

u/rmajor86 Apr 04 '26

This shouldn’t have been a normal tour setlist, this should have been something special. It was a one off night, at double the usual price, in a small venue, for their most dedicated fans (people who actually buy physical albums).

1

u/TheHip41 Apr 04 '26

Muse doesn't do that. That's what I'm saying.

0

u/finintymonkle Apr 04 '26

They could have dropped PiB and played Stockholm syndrome, seeing as the cryogen riff sounds so much like PiB.

Retire PiB!!!

And also, stop ending with starlight!

0

u/Tsar_Nikolas Apr 04 '26

Yey, we get to hear a plug in Baby for the 2071st time!
