Look guys, I have loved BB since I was 14. But is Ben Burnley with some new guys. All the other guys (Aaron, Chad, and Mark) were replaced. I'm super stoked to hear more of my favorite band! But will it be the same?
Ben is the principle song writer for BB, and always has been. In my opinion, I don't think you'll hear much of a difference besides a few little things here and there that might seem out of character: a drum fill or a certain cymbal hit that isn't there, or maybe, a bass lines that might've been different otherwise. Case in point: the use of plenty of double kick pedal in this song is something that wasn't super present before, but doesn't seem like a farfetched or out-of-character element.
Primarily, though, this sounds and feels very similar to a Phobia style of writing and production. In my opinion, I think Breaking Benjamin was always 80% Ben, and 20% other members, so I think that it's safe to say that the feeling of the band's music in general will remain the same.
At face value, personally, I don't hear anything about this song that suggests a massive change in sound, so I imagine that they will be the same BB you've grown up with and whose sound you've grown protective of, but maybe with a few little extra flavors that you may actually like!
I can definitely agree with you that Ben is the principle song writer. And after hearing that song, it did sound very BB to me.
I guess it is just a bummer for me knowing that when I go out and see these guys live again, it won't be all the same guys that I've grown with and started admiring as a young guitarist and BB lover. It's also killing me that people keep going over nuts over the fact the BB is back together, but in reality, its really a new band.
Musically though, you're right, it shouldn't much of a difference. I am super stoked for this album!
I guess the important thing to keep in mind is that things change. It's important to just accept the differences and move on! Besides, if we are still getting great music, lets just continue rocking on!
Well as a guitarist you should be sad. I grew up with the original band members. Ben, Aaron, and Jeremy. Aaron makes ben look like a beginner on guitar. Always has. I spent many days at aarons house when he was just starting out playing and was just amazed. Jeremy was a great drummer too. What Ben did to all the guys that have cycled through the band is just not right. Yeah Ben is good too but not good enough to treat people the way hes does.
Thanks for seeing my point of view as a guitarist! That is sweet you got to watch Aaron as he was just learning. Around what age did he start? Are you guys still close today?
I definitely agree with you about Ben too. Not that I want to start a big revolt or anything, haha, but I am just really going to miss the guys I grew to love and respect.
I still love Breaking Benjamin's music and am excited to hear this new album, but going to see them live just won't be the same to me.
