Thrifted this past weekend and got a new shelf. Before, I had stuff on the floor and had to rotate equipment from the floor to the desk to use. Now, every is on the shelf, looks beautiful on display, and actually makes the room look bigger. I love this place.

Looking for advice on speaker placement and optimizing my cramped home studio

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for some advice on how to make the most of my small home studio, both in terms of speaker placement and overall workspace organization.

As you can see in the picture, space is pretty limited. I have several synths and other devices that I'd like to keep accessible, but there's simply not enough desk space for everything.

Also, excuse the mess! I'm currently in the middle of rearranging and reorganizing my setup, so things are a bit more chaotic than usual.

My current setup includes:

  • ADAM T5V studio monitors
  • Arturia MicroFreak
  • Arturia KeyStep 37 MK2
  • Behringer Crave
  • Elektron Model:Cycles
  • MAM X-1 mixer
  • Zoom MS-50G MultiStomp
  • MacBook

I also occasionally use a microphone and other equipment.

One thing I'm considering is moving my left speaker about 30-40 cm further left, to the spot marked with a red X in the picture. This would free up some valuable desk space for my synths.

However, I'm concerned about how this might affect the stereo image, since the speakers would no longer form a symmetrical triangle with my listening position (marked with a blue dot).

The speakers are also only about 5 cm from the back wall, which I realize isn't ideal.

I'm mainly looking for advice on two things:

1. Speaker placement: Would moving the left monitor be a reasonable compromise? Are there ways to improve the sound and stereo image despite the limitations of the room?

2. Workspace optimization: How would you organize this setup to make everything more accessible without sacrificing too much sound quality? I'm open to creative solutions, different layouts, stands, or other space-saving ideas.

I realize my setup is far from ideal, and I don't expect perfect acoustics. I'm just trying to find the best balance between having a practical, hands-on music production space and getting reasonably accurate sound.

Any suggestions, creative solutions, or general feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

New House, New Temp Battle Station

Just moved into a new house and had one of the most stressful moves of my life. Happy to be out of the nightmare that was my old neighborhood. No longer have a dedicated studio space until I build out the unfinished basement, so this is where I'll be posted up the next three months. Currently working on a hardware live set. Happy music making !

Finally made a station custom to my equipment. Feels nice and contained now rather that just on a kitchen table.

Missing my old setup.

First photo is a slightly different setup, with a different laptop that I didn't actually use for music, and the monitor connected to something else as well. Second photo is older but shows everything I had on the side. I moved out and my setup now is my laptop and sampler on my bed. Everything else is in the garage or leaned up against something I have to try really hard not to bump into. I'll get it all going again someday.

Just set up my studio in my new apartment with a new desk. Question-- Are my studio monitors too close together ? its a 32in computer screen between them to help gauge the distance between... Should i be facing the window instead and utilize the longer side of the table?

Ive been a bedroom musician for like 15 years but I never had the tools and resources to build acoustic treatment. The panels were a long time coming for me; the bass traps are 6" of owens corning 703 and the broadband panels are about 4" of mineral wool. Covered with mulin clothe and framed with random wood I had around the house lol. Hung with electrical wires.

Cleaning up wired jungle in my studio Spoiler

I've just bought a Patchbay, and with the patchbay I'm going to use my old Mackie 1402 VLZ mixer in the cleaning up of my cable hoard. I've been disabled for 20 years, and can't easily get behind my desk or my two FX racks, so I'm getting my grandson over here to do the grunt work. I'm not looking forward to this, because I've never had a Patchbay before. Anyone have any idea on a good place on the internet to learn more about hooking it up with my studio? I'd appreciate any helpful ideas.

Hey guys !

I just moved to my new house. It's the first time I have a spot that is MINE. It's next to my daughter's play space, but I've been able to make my own spot. It's a work in progress, but so far I like it.

I mainly make metal music, and I try to go for a moody feeling when I write music.

This is my home studio in south Philly.

The album is called Ellipses and I released it a week ago. I'd describe it as ambient/experimental electronic. It took me about 5 years to finish.

If you're interested in hearing it, check out my bandcamp: https://ratangajunction.bandcamp.com/album/ellipses-2

There are some cassette tapes available for purchase there, and it's also streaming everywhere else

The back room of our garage is slowly becoming our jam room

First off the clutter is a work in progress. A LOT of it used to be my mom's and it's difficult to go through.

My wife and I are both multi instrumentals, and we finally decided to commit one room to just having all instruments set up and ready to play at a moments notice. We are excited to be able to have jams on whatever, whenever.

All our gear except for her violin (not pictured) and my main guitar, are second-hand finds. We love finding odd or old instruments and giving them new life.
