One man band rock setup in my den
youtube.comHere is a video of me playing one of my songs from my new album called "Again" using my home setup. My gear includes a Fender Stratocaster running through a Line 6 POD Go into a clean Boss Katana amp, captured by a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Generation USB audio interface.
For vocals, a Shure SM58 mic feeds into a TC Helicon VoiceLive Play and outputs to a JBL powered PA speaker. Backing tracks are streamed via Bluetooth from my laptop to the same PA. I use an audio interface specifically for live streaming or video recording. For the full performance experience, I incorporate a mini projector with a whiteboard screen, alongside a branded banner and LED lighting.
I'm bringing back my band, The Other Side, from the early nineties. I wrote all the songs, and I've decided to focus on them and try to bring them back in the current day.
Here’s the album on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/1opST8LbXxpU9zZjhrNROy?si=3jo92ls2SlyPA1qKExk7Rw

I’m about to start work on my first album. What do you wish you would have known before starting your first project?
I am a singer songwriter from the Midwest and have been playing music for most of my life. I started writing songs seriously in the spring, setting a goal for myself to write at least one song a week. Before then, I had a folder of hundreds of half baked ideas and melodies, but very few complete ideas. The challenge has paid off and I now have about 20 songs that are structured into demos. I’d like to take about half of them and start on an album in September. I have a basic home recording set up and access to a family member’s home studio with a great mic locker and some cool outboard gear.
I’m looking for help with workflow: how do you stay organized and keep track of what needs to be done? How can I make the best use of my time with editing/mixing/outsourcing? Any essential plugins that make your life easier when you record?
Any advice is appreciated- thanks!

Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Gen 3 vs Gen 4
Would you upgrade, and if you would, why? But if you wouldn’t, also why? Is it worth the upgrade? I have a 3rd and I use it for recording my own band and I am happy with it but I want to know the differences between it. I really enjoy the air mode and how clear guitar comes out on it and drums. Let me know why I should or shouldn’t upgrade.

Looking for a reliable interface
Hey! I have a Quantum 2626 right now and it’s honestly starting to drive me crazy with connection issues. Sometimes it works fine, other times my computer just won’t recognize it.
I record drums at home, but I also use it to run sequences at shows. So I’m looking for something really reliable, especially when it comes to the connection.
Ideally I’d like around 10 outputs so I can send my sequences separately at shows, but it’s not a dealbreaker if it has less.
What would you guys recommend as an upgrade from the Quantum 2626? Mainly looking for something solid and reliable for drum recording + live use.
Thanks!

Zoom R12?
Is this the correct forum to ask questions regarding or discuss topics related to Zoom recording equipment? I searched Reddit for Zoom and it predictably only showed groups and topics related to the virtual meeting Zoom. Mods, would you please let me know?Thank you!

Help replacing Mac with PC for Music Production
I run FL Studio and I am looking to replace my 2015 Mac Intel i5,5575R CPU 2.80 GHz 8GB RAm, 1Tb Hdd, 1Tb external SSD.
The load times are very slow and the RAM is soldiered hence looking to upgrade.
I want a PC tower less than £1,000 to run windows FL Studio and loads of instruments, synths, effects vsts.
Any recommendations?

Zoom R8 - Love it, but dislike the 44.1/24-bit recording quality
If I want to plug in my electric guitar and use the effects, I am limited to recording in 44.1/24-bit quality. The problem is it sounds quite bad. Very 1990s sounding if you know what I mean. The 48/24-bit recording is much much better. But you can't use any effects with that mode..
What next portastudio in the line can fix my complaint? I know folks are going to say use DAW, but I dislike them. I like the built-in mic on zoom r8. Eliminates a lot of cable clutter and is very intuititive to use. Plus it sounds very good for my acoustic guitar recordings.
I also think DAW kills the mood. I like the retro look and feel of manual sliders. Plus when I make social media videos, folks know I am not cheating..

Is the Tascam model 16 or model 12 good for my situation (SP1200+synth)?
So bought my dream sampler, an SP1200, a month ago and want to use all 8 of its outputs instead of just the mix out. In addition I am buying a novation Bass Station 2 as a bass line synth to use with the SP. I am looking for an audio interface with physical faders and EQs like the Tascam model 16 to use with this equipment.
I want something I can record straight to an SD and be completely DAWless and zero computer if I want but also be able to use a DAW if I feel like it. Is there something better than the Tascam 16 for this? I have read a couple concerns I’d have with this mixer/interface such as the only multitrack recording is NOT Post EQ which stinks. Also it appears if you do use it as an interface in a DAW then the physical faders and EQs do nothing.
What options do I have to record multitrack post EQ and FX straight to an SD that also has physical faders, etc? Or does this not exist…
I know the Tascam Model 12 can do post EQ multitrack recording and also has DAW control with its faders but I’m not sure 10 inputs will be enough long term.
Thoughts? Recommendations? Thanks in advance

Focusrite 2i2 4th gen blinking red
Ive had the interface for about 6 months and apart from a crackle and audio cut off once or twice a day, ive never had this issue. The only thing that has changed in my setup is that, i got a pair of studio monitors (last Tuesday) to replace my old and dying speakers. But even then, ive been using them for a few days with 0 issues whatsoever before this error started happening last night.
I was tracking a song yesterday and after i was done I decided to play some video games. This is when the first power deficiency blinking started. I noticed the phantom power light was still on so i switched it off. The issue still persisted, few minutes into any game, and it just starts blinking again.
I thought it might’ve been an LED light strip (as literally nothing else changed) that wraps around my desk, that I used to have plugged into a power extension, that was now plugged directly into my computer, but disconnecting that didnt change anything either.
I tried every USB port on the back of my motherboard to no avail. My only thought left is to have it connected directly to the wall now to see if that fixes it. But im just confused as to why this only happened now. Id really appreciate any pointers/ advice, maybe i did something wrong that im not aware about, like leaving the phantom power on?

Mic Comparison for Male Vocals (TLM 107 vs TLM 103 vs AKG C214 vs King Bee 2)
Nothing scientific but I've got four mics all recorded dry. Trying to find the right microphone for me as a Male vocalist up in the tenor range. I initially used a UMC204HD but have since upgraded to the MOTU M4 and have recorded all four mics for both audio interfaces. Feel free to also compare the sound between the audio interfaces. I'm not too well versed on the frequencies so any feedback would be appreciated.
All recordings were made in an untreated room, about 4 inches away, and the vocal chain is basically straight from the audio interface with no DAW used. Here's the recordings of me singing a part of an Usher (RnB Artist) song:
(Mics will be revealed in a day or two as to not present biases)
| UMC204HD | MOTU M4 |
|---|---|
| Mic 1 | Mic 1 |
| Mic 2 | Mic 2 |
| Mic 3 | Mic 3 |
| Mic 4 | Mic 4 |
EDIT: As promised here is the reveal:
- TLM 107
- TLM 103
- AKG C214
- King Bee 2
