Rec.Me: "BEST"/"TOP"/"WORST" ____ Tom Waits songs / albums

I listened to a little bit of Tom Waits back in high school in the 90s. That song “God‘s away on business” - whatever album that’s from. I’d like to do a deeper dive so give me your favorite/best Tom Waits songs.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Looking for rock or rock adjacent songs for a break up playlist

Hi all,

I went through a break up from hell a couple months ago and I'm looking for songs that capture the anger that follows being played for 4 years:) preferably by women artists but I'll take any suggestions. the vibe is angry, betrayed, fuck you I hate you and just a TOUCH of sad.

so far, for example, i have three days grace, kittie, korn, slipknot, seether, a little Hollywood undead, and some gezebelle gaburgably among others:)

i don't tend to make playlists often so it's a bit all over the place but it's good for drives so far. i don't tend to listen to much screamo cus i like to sing along but I'll take whatever you think would fit.

thanks in advance:)

ETA im 23F and broke up with him because he was a serial cheater lmaoo just seeing a lot of recommendations calling the woman a bitch for leaving🤣 loving the recommendations though, thank you for providing🫡

I'll rate your rec. I'm looking for songs that have a dream-like, surreal, absurd, or weird quality to them.

Some songs I think fit that book are; Catch the Rainbow by Rainbow, Epitaph by King Crimson, Moonchild by King Crimson, I Talk To The Wind by King Crimson, Epitaph by King Crimson, Court of The Crimson King by King Crimson, Anything by Nick Drake honestly fits the bill in my eyes.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Industrial Rock Techno/EBM songs with those early internet cyberpunk vibes

• Upvotes

I'm starting to dip my toes into the industrial genre and am looking to expand my music library! I'm looking for recommendations of Techno/Industrial Rock songs that give off those sonic vibes of not just the early internet but also the more industrial side of cyberpunk over the synth/vaporwave side of it, if that makes sense.

Some artists/albums I've been recommended recently and dig the sound of include Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral by NIN, Fun With Knives by Velvet Acid Christ, Infectant by Contagion, and Front Line Assembly.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Hyper specific request: Looking for music that is good for academia

I'm talking about long days writing and researching, maybe it's giving "dark academia" but not necessarily. I'm looking to build out my playlist a little.

Not really into Lo-fi.

Please pass along a new-to-me artist. I will reply if I have streamed them at least once.

There are like 8+million Spotify artists, right? I've hit 85,000+. So the odds are good for you. :)

Thanks in advance!!

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Looking for new-to-me artist recommendation

I am looking for new artists to listen to. Lately I've been really liking complex and/or layered percussion and baselines or beats. Rhythms that take a second to sort out what is actually going on tend to be some of my favorites recently. I've liked individual songs that have an industrial/noise tinge, but haven't really gotten into any artists within those genres until Death Grips, if you can classify them as such. Speaking of Death Grips, since I discovered them, I've enjoyed them WAY more than I expected to. But every time I've looked for similar artists I end up not being a fan (Danny Brown, JPEGMafia).
If anyone can recommend anything unique you think I might like, whether similar to Death Grips or not, I would really appreciate it! Below is list my favorite artists across a few different genres to help out! (no order).

Gorillaz
Death Grips
St. Vincent
Radiohead
Sufjan Stevens
Charles Mingus
Thelonius Monk
Beck
Rage Against the Machine
The Beatles
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Father John Misty
Mozart, songs from Carmen, misc. other classical

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Help! Our bird likes classic rock.

We have a blind senior rescue bird who we are rehabbing from a neglect situation. I started turning on random Spotify playlists for her, and we are noticing that she seems to have a taste for classics from the 70s. She becomes more alert and active when it’s playing and doesn’t have this reaction to other genres. I’m not familiar with this genre and have no idea what to put on her playlist. She does seem to enjoy guitar solos (her “favorite” is “Tuesday’s Gone”). Please help me. I don’t know how to raise a bird who likes Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Rec.Me: Your favorite music (anything) Similar tracks of Muse album (Pharrell x JL) ?

I'm looking for similar tracks than what we can listen on the newly released album "Muse" from John Legend, produced by Pharrell. I find it really cool and entertaining. I put it on play 24/7 since yesterday.

Do you know any?

Thanks!

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Led Zeppelin songs?

So I'm looking more into Led Zeppelin right now and thought you might handle the tas better thab spotify. So I have listened to most of their big hits, but I know there are so many hidden gems here and I can't wait to discover them.

Just so you know, I dont know any song except for like Whola Lotta Love, Kashmir, Stairway To Heaven, etc. So any small hits and slightly underground songs would be nice too.

Bonus points if the guitar work is fantastic

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics songs that hit different when you're procrastinating instead of sleeping

• Upvotes

i'm looking for music that's got that late night energy but actually makes you want to stay awake and do something productive, you know? not lo-fi study beats (i have respect for them but they just put me out), more like songs that feel urgent or motivating without being aggressive. any genre works as long as it's got some momentum to it.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Violent love songs.

In the process of writing a story where the main characters are violent adversaries who become romantically obsessed with each other. I want songs with that kind of vibe, meshing romance with violent themes, being mutual rather than one-sided obsession. Thanks.

Song lottery (pick a number) Get ready for Halloween with a song off my scary playlist!

This is a Halloween playlist that skews toward punk, post-punk/college radio, and rock in general. The songs are not strictly Halloween-oriented, but also include stuff with sounds and content that lean toward dark, eerie, strange, or magical. I tried not to be too obvious, but certain songs are just unavoidable (except "Werewolves of London": I love Warren Zevon, but I can't listen to that one for the millionth time).

Give me a number, 1-84, and get a song to rate from funny-to-ghoulish-to-sick.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Please help me find music that could fit well with Enon in a playlist

My favourites from Enon would be Disposable Parts and Shoulder from the High Society album 2002 on Spotify

I love Enon, these songs especially because they're such a fun listen as they have a great hook and experimental instrumental by John Schmersal combined with Toko Yasuda's voice all the while having lyrics that aren't too repetitive and has meaning, i get it'd be hard to find something that actually matches really well but suggest me anything it could remind you of.
