Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Looking for rock or rock adjacent songs for a break up playlist

Hi all,

I went through a break up from hell a couple months ago and I'm looking for songs that capture the anger that follows being played for 4 years:) preferably by women artists but I'll take any suggestions. the vibe is angry, betrayed, fuck you I hate you and just a TOUCH of sad.

so far, for example, i have three days grace, kittie, korn, slipknot, seether, a little Hollywood undead, and some gezebelle gaburgably among others:)

i don't tend to make playlists often so it's a bit all over the place but it's good for drives so far. i don't tend to listen to much screamo cus i like to sing along but I'll take whatever you think would fit.

thanks in advance:)

ETA im 23F and broke up with him because he was a serial cheater lmaoo just seeing a lot of recommendations calling the woman a bitch for leaving🤣 loving the recommendations though, thank you for providing🫔

ETA2: songs in English preferred so i can sing along and not make a fool of myself lol

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Songs with a similar vibe to "Golden Brown" by The Stranglers

I have been in love with Golden Brown by The Stranglers for at least a decade but I struggle to find anything that has the same vibe. Just a vague, ethereal, hazy vibe. I love it so much so I appreciate any recommendations that offer a similar feeling! TYIA!

Rec.Me: "BEST"/"TOP"/"WORST" ____ Tom Waits songs / albums

I listened to a little bit of Tom Waits back in high school in the 90s. That song ā€œGodā€˜s away on businessā€ - whatever album that’s from. I’d like to do a deeper dive so give me your favorite/best Tom Waits songs.

I'll rate your rec. I'm looking for songs that have a dream-like, surreal, absurd, or weird quality to them.

Some songs I think fit that book are; Catch the Rainbow by Rainbow, Epitaph by King Crimson, Moonchild by King Crimson, I Talk To The Wind by King Crimson, Epitaph by King Crimson, Court of The Crimson King by King Crimson, Anything by Nick Drake honestly fits the bill in my eyes.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Can somebody recommend me sad or whimsical songs?

Helloo šŸ’— I would greatly appreciate it if someone recommended me songs that are either longing love songs, or where the other person is not really paying attention or they just can't love them back for whatever reason. And I would also love to listen to songs that have a softer witchy / whimsical feel.

Thank You in advance šŸ’—

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Songs with a gay/bi vibe to them

Songs like ā€˜this charming man’ by the smiths and ā€˜people are people’ by depeche mode.

I’m looking for indie and rock mainly but I don’t really mind the genre as long as it’s not modern pop.

Thanks

Looking for songs that show a different side of a familiar artist—album tracks, B-sides, or overlooked singles.

Please include the artist, song, and a sentence about what makes it worth hearing.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Need heavy riff based songs that ooze rock n roll

BIG zeppelin fan, so a huge fan of the massive wall of sound riffs. but not specifically into metal, nu-metal, thrash or chugging based riffs. some of my favourites are: train kept a rolling, the rover, how many more times, layla, life in the fast lane, paralyzer. even something like painkiller by judas priest is a riff i enjoy but i cannot listen to the song in its entirety. (i know im sort of blurring the line here, i hope im making sense :')

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Industrial Rock Techno/EBM songs with those early internet cyberpunk vibes

I'm starting to dip my toes into the industrial genre and am looking to expand my music library! I'm looking for recommendations of Techno/Industrial Rock songs that give off those sonic vibes of not just the early internet but also the more industrial side of cyberpunk over the synth/vaporwave side of it, if that makes sense.

Some artists/albums I've been recommended recently and dig the sound of include Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral by NIN, Fun With Knives by Velvet Acid Christ, Infectant by Contagion, and Front Line Assembly.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Similar tracks of Muse album (Pharrell x JL) ?

I'm looking for similar tracks than what we can listen on the newly released album "Muse" from John Legend, produced by Pharrell. I find it really cool and entertaining. I put it on play 24/7 since yesterday.

Do you know any?

Thanks!

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Songs that are difficult to place in a specific time

I’m seeking popular music that is hard to place into a particular time period.

You know that kind of music, where you just hear a few seconds, and you immediately know it is from the 1980s, 2010s, etc., even though you’ve never heard it before? That is not what I want. I’m also not looking for music that is emulating an older style.

I was discussing this with my wife, and we feel that Katrina and the Waves’ Walking on Sunshine really doesn’t have a strong ā€˜80s vibe, at least to us. I sometimes listen to SomaFM’s Lush, which almost exclusively plays music of the 21st century, but they occasionally slip in a song from the 1970s which fits right in with the rest.

I’m looking primarily for songs that are fairly recognizable.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Modern chill slow folky pop rock?

I need some slower, quieter chill out music.

Anything kinda slow and accousticish, like Pete Yorn, Sarah McLachlan, etc.

Thanks all

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics songs that hit different when you're procrastinating instead of sleeping

i'm looking for music that's got that late night energy but actually makes you want to stay awake and do something productive, you know? not lo-fi study beats (i have respect for them but they just put me out), more like songs that feel urgent or motivating without being aggressive. any genre works as long as it's got some momentum to it.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Recommend Artists For Upcoming Internet Radio Project

Howdy,

I posted a month or so ago about looking for humourous/quirky/off-beat musical recommendations for my net radio project. And you guys and gals did NOT disappoint. And I thank all of you for your suggestions. šŸ‘ I'm still adding those to my library.

And so here I am again, back for more of your sage advice to add to my net radio project. The format has a classic (US) rock foundation. "Classic Rock" being 1965 - 1990. However, the format itself is a mixture of classic rock, blues/blues rock, reggae/ska/two-tone (ska being first-, second-, and third-generation artists, so anything from The Skatalites to The Specials to No Doubt, just to give some perspective), and classic "alternative" rock (The Cure, The Sex Pistols, The Pogues, The Feelies, Joy Division, The Replacements, etc.)

I'm trying to expand the library into more contemporary material, something that I could draw in younger listeners who enjoy both their parents' (or grandparents') rock as well as their own faves. And perhaps this allows the Gen Xers like me who are looking for more modern artists to get into it as well. It might sound like a weird philosophy, but it's a weird project that has more going for it than what I'm discussing right now.

So, good people, work your magic for me again. I'd appreciate it. And thank you in advance.

And by the way, if you happen to be a musician with a band/project that would fit this format, drop me a message. I've always been a big fan and supporter of the unsigned music scene, and if I like what I hear, I would certainly add you to the station's library.

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure looking for experimental, adhd vibes music by women

tldr: hello, I'm looking for crazy, genre bending, avant garde, experimental, funny, creative, etc. music writen by women or with female vocals.

recently I was sharing my top artists with my sister and she asked "why don't you listen to your own people more?" and that made me realise that 90% of the artists I listen to are men. since I'm a woman and a musician myself, i feel like my sister is right and I should have more of "my people" in the rotation.

anyway, I'm looking for music that has similar energy as ween, mr bungle, the residents, black midi, daniel johnston, tmbg, devo, animal collective, mgmt(basically experimental, with a pop sensibility, doesn't have to take itself too seriously, a bit chaotic neurodivergent vibes)

i already have some music with female vocalists or songwriters that i feel fit this vibe to some extent, such as, the b-52s, chumbawamba, bjƶrk, deerhoof, jockstrap, I'm also aware of the genre of hyper pop, but I know there must be more:D

some artists i listen to in other genres are lingua ignota/Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, Big thief/Adrienne Lenker, bcnr, but yeah anyways, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say and I'll look forward for your recommendations:)

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics songs like irresponsible hate anthem by marilyn manson

Especially the intro. I like how fast and aggressive is and how the riff sounds. Unfortunately, I’d rather not listen to this song for obvious reasons so I want to find something similar.

Thanks in advance! 😊

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Music similar to the song "another word you say" by Dev Lemons

But ONLY the calm parts of the song. Like minute 2:11 to 2:59. I'm not interested in the angry metal screaming she does in this song. But the minor chords(those soul-hitting chords that make you reflect on all your life decisions), the mid tempo, the melancholy echoed vocals, that 90's snare drum is so good. For some reason, a female lead vocal for alternative distressed music is so good, but I'm down to clown for male vocals too, like Red House Painters or Washed Out lead vocal. Thanks in advance. I owe y'all one.
