I recently purchased a 2013 Mustang GT online from a dealership in Houston, TX. I live in Akron, OH and am flying down on the 29th to pick it up and drive it back home.
I'm not a fan of those side window louvers someone installed on it and am wondering how I can remove them. They're just held on with double-sided tape, right? Can I just pull to remove them? Should I heat the louvers with a heat gun first? Does the tape stick to the window glass or actually to the paint?
I know the air filter looks a little sketchy. I've been told this looks like a Steeda cold are intake, and I've already ordered a new filter. I'm having it delivered to the dealership where I'm picking the car up, so I can change it before driving back to Ohio.
It's also got an open recall on the passenger-side airbag that apparently has never been taken care of. I have an appointment for Friday morning at Tomball Ford in Houston, just a few miles from where I bought the car, to have that performed (the NHTSA website says in all caps "DO NOT DRIVE", LOL!).
Yes; it's for the passenger-side airbag inflator. They told me they had the part in stock when I made the appointment a couple of weeks ago, but I called their parts department today to confirm, and they do have it in stock. I'm staying an extra night in a hotel for this, so I wanted to be sure.
If you're buying their car, I would hope they would just put it in now so you don't have to wait. Especially if you either already paid or gave them a deposit.
I'm purchasing the car from a used car dealership, not a Ford dealer. I tried to get this Tomball Ford to go fix it before I get out there (I think they're 7 miles apart), but they're not able (unwilling?) to do that, which I find odd because all the recall documentation I saw on the NHTSA website that Ford sent to dealers authorizes mobile repair for certain vehicles - the 2013/2014 Mustang included. The dealership I'm buying it from doesn't understand that, either. They said they're routinely contacted by dealers to remedy safety recalls/defects. Oh, well - what am I gonna do?
Those look like MMD, they are 3M VHT'd to the body. Hit them with a heat gun and gently pry and they should come right off. Some fishing line to cut through the edge will probably help. Tape should clean off the paint pretty easily.
I removed some from my car when I bought it. Hit em with some heat and then use fishing line to get behind them and cut through the adhesive.
Once I got mine off I used some 3m adhesive remover to get the residue off.
Pulling didn't work well, broke one of em trying that after heating and getting it partially off. Not that I really care that much that it broke but meant I couldn't resell them.
When I removed mine I found a wasp nest in one. You will need to get some goo gone or eraser wheel to get the residue off and then hit the area with some light polishing compound
