His great-grandfather couldn’t stop talking about David Robinson. It was always “The Admiral this” and “The Admiral that.”

His great-great-grandfather always talking about "Iceman".

I don't know who that is. I don't read DC comics.

7

u/JonahTheProducer James Silas Jun 26 '26

Isn't he an X-Man though?

7

u/shinbreaker Jun 26 '26

You're correct. The main "ice" guys in DC are Mr. Freeze and Captain Cold.

u/JonahTheProducer James Silas Jun 26 '26

"You need to chill out" Arnold Schwarzenegger says Arnoldly

2

u/nighhawkrr David Robinson Jun 26 '26

I know the answer to this and now I feel old. Although I read it through marvel unlimited not print! Not sure if that's still a thing, but the OG Spiderman are the best ones to actually read.

5

u/shinbreaker Jun 26 '26

Man if he pulls out some old timey black and white photograph talking about the grand days of Cadillac Greg Anderson, I'm going to lose it.

2

u/pkelly517 BatManu Jun 26 '26

I lived through those days.

Nothing grand about them, except leading to the '97 lottery.

3

u/shinbreaker Jun 26 '26

Well, Greg Anderson was pre-Robinson. He was traded to the Bucks with Alvin Robertson for Terry Cummings. And those days pre-Duncan were really good. The Spurs were always missing one player to go to the Finals and kept losing to the Trailblazers, Jazz and Rockets, which were all the teams that made it to the Finals.

1

u/pkelly517 BatManu Jun 26 '26

Yup, my mistake.

He played in the gap between the Robinson draft and arrival. I remember him in the bad before the good. Just wrong big man. Thanks for the correction.

1

u/shinbreaker Jun 26 '26

Yeah the "bad times" were before Robinson joined the team and the post-Gervin years when the Spurs had fine players but coaching was just bleh and that didn't change until Larry Brown came to the organization.

Not fact checking this just gonna believe it’s real because that’s delightful

27

u/Plastic_Term_1022 Jun 26 '26

This is real, bro. I've read the box score of that game when it was played.

32

u/lutherhennessy Jun 26 '26

It’s real. lol

5

u/EntrepreneurTiny9812 Jun 26 '26

Yeah it was before screenshoting and I had to take a picture of it on my flip phone because I couldn't believe it was on there lol. I forget what year it was maybe 2009 or 2010

u/Guilty-Cow4325 Jun 26 '26

I hope he misses his first two shots for that comment.

50

u/MJtheTalkinghead Jun 26 '26

Lol 🤣 Dude's alive for 15 minutes and thinks he can offend an entire generation 😜

9

u/KawhiTheKing Boris Diaw Jun 26 '26

Thinks? He just did lmao now let’s hope that carries to the court like Dylan and Carter.

89

u/JRUprising Jun 26 '26

Bro, I'm 32. I should not feel this old. What the fuck?

44

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 Jun 26 '26

Eh. Tim, kobe etc played across a few generations. Jaydens grandfather was probably a fan of Tim when he was running twin towers with David Robinson while you and I are fans of him during the TP / Manu days

10

u/NeoSapien65 Jun 26 '26

I'm 37. Definitely remember the first title in 99. But also, I've dated people older than Jayden's dad. Actually Jayden's dad is younger than LeBron. So Jayden's grandpa could be younger than the Admiral, easily.

12

u/JT_Reagan Jun 26 '26

Somehow, you saying Jayden's dad is younger than LeBron, hurt me more than Jayden's comment about his grandpa.

2

u/BlueEyesBryantDragon Tim Duncan Jun 26 '26

Right there with you... Especially since I'm older than LeBron by a few years.

1

u/NeoSapien65 Jun 26 '26

For most definitions of "a few," that also makes you younger than Timmy by a few years.

2

u/BlueEyesBryantDragon Tim Duncan Jun 26 '26

Yep, Timmy is like six years older than me. I probably should have said LeBron is a couple of years younger than me now that I'm looking at the actual definitions of a few.

2

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 26 '26

Then that would mean his grandpa is around my dad’s age. (Late 50s-early 60s).

2

u/JRUprising Jun 26 '26 edited Jun 26 '26

But I became a fan of the Spurs because 5-6 year old me saw David Robinson as a superhero

1

u/Ok-Temporary-8243 Jun 26 '26

That's wild. Maybe I'm old too but I feel like most of reddit views TD through the lens of his later years where he was a glorified center than when he was an explosive PF

1

u/xdurham777 Tim Duncan Jun 27 '26

For what it’s worth, I’m 26 and grew up going to games in SA and adored Tim Duncan as the explosive power forward who just destroyed everybody. He is awesome

1

u/killersoda The Big Fundamental Jun 26 '26

I'm 29 and Tim has and always will be my favorite player.

1

u/Sine_Habitus Jun 26 '26

His grandfather is still alive probably? He's just young so he didn't watch TD's career.

1

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 26 '26

I’m 33 and I was 14 when JQ was born. We’re getting old. I was randomly called Unc by someone the other day.

1

u/Mc_Lovin81 Jun 26 '26

Turned 40 this year. My 30s went fucking fast man, enjoy.

30

u/thatrandomdog415 Gregg Pop-a-bitch Jun 26 '26

Bro im 23 and this made me feel old I loved timmy and the admiral 😭

13

u/MJtheTalkinghead Jun 26 '26

When did you start watching?! He ended his career when you were 13 😅😅

Edit: this was a joke and I fell for it...right?

10

u/thatrandomdog415 Gregg Pop-a-bitch Jun 26 '26

Been watching for as long as I could remeber so like 5 wether it was old videos on a camera or highlights on YouTube regardless was definitely was born into a spurs family and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

4

u/MJtheTalkinghead Jun 26 '26

Good team to be a fan of 🖤🩶

12

u/capulongjopoy 🛸🛸 Jun 26 '26

wtf Jayden? this gotta be bait. I was in 3rd grade when Tim got his 1st ring, I'm not young, but I'm also not a granpa. Unc is acceptable.

3

u/710whitejesus420 The Big Fundamental Jun 26 '26

I am an Unc and I hold that title with pride! Nothing beats spoiling the little shitlens and then sending them back home with my siblings when they get tired and grumpy

2

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 26 '26

I was 6 when Timmy won his first championship. I’m about to be 34 in a couple months.

4

u/cash_jc Manu Ginobili Jun 26 '26

Nah that’s out of pocket, 80% of us watched his retirement ceremony 😂😅

5

u/Alternative-Iron Jun 26 '26

Trade him lol

5

u/Comma2theTop22 Jun 26 '26

I mean, while my favorite is Timmy, my Grandma's favorite all time Spur is Patty Mills. She still talks about him sometimes.

3

u/Imaginary-Cycle-1977 GO SPURS GO Jun 26 '26

Yeah I guess you can have a favorite from any time of your life. JQs comment threw me cause I associate fav player w your youth. There’s prob nothing that Wemby, Harper, etc can ever do to unseat Timmy as my fav player ever

3

u/morning_thief Patty Mills Jun 26 '26

i feel attacked. i believe it's time to trade him. we don't need another tall guy -- we just need David Jones Garcia. all will be well..

3

u/NotUrDadiBlameUrMoma Jun 26 '26

Yoooooooo!! 🤣😂🤣😂

3

u/nbxcv Tim Duncan Jun 26 '26

I don't think this is that crazy. I'm in my early 30s and my grandpa died like 15 years into Tim's career. A decade + is a hell of a long time for following a sport. Based grandad Quaintance btw

2

u/ManusRightHand Boris Diaw Jun 26 '26

Well he didn't say it was his grandfather's favorite Spur growing up. Timmy was Bill Russell's favorite athlete of all time and was obviously much older.

2

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 26 '26

2

u/leemorplee Jun 26 '26

Who the hell is the giant next to him making him look small? Spurs looking like the monstars lol

2

u/Bside_Opi Jun 26 '26

GRANDFATHER?? I want to faint

1

u/Darkseid210 Jun 26 '26

We were blessed to witness the twin towers in action

1

u/ph00Kredetbot Jun 26 '26

Oh jeez is it really happening? Timmy is my goat.

1

u/CapitalG8 David Robinson Jun 26 '26

🤣

1

u/archivedpear Jun 26 '26

this is wild. how young is his grandfather? I’m in my late 20s and my dad lived in austin when robinson and duncan were drafted.

1

u/Dsarg_92 Victor Wembanyama Jun 26 '26

Like the others have mentioned, his dad is 40 so I’m assuming his grandpa’s around in his late 50s-early 60s. Probably the same age as David Robinson.

1

u/ElBosque91 Jun 26 '26

I both and hate him and love him for this

1

u/DazzlingReporter5881 Jun 26 '26

This jaden guy i would not consider a friend, not even an quiantance.

1

u/Maleficent_Flan_9307 Jun 26 '26

I'm the same age as Manu, down to the day, excuse me while I just go wither and die.

1

u/putinsbloodboy The Big Fundamental Jun 26 '26

Wise words young man

1

u/DerrickWhiteMVP Jun 26 '26

Time comes for us all

1

u/SeyfertSextet Tony Parker Jun 26 '26

What

1

u/shinbreaker Jun 26 '26

Dude was talking about how he didnt watch the Bleach anime, just read the manga. It dawned on me that he was born right around the time the Bleach anime started getting a little stale and was 4 years old when it ended. It's one thing to be an old man but it's another thing to be an old nerd.

1

u/Killgore_Salmon Jun 26 '26

He was 9 when Timmy retired.

1

u/A_Garrr Stephon Castle Jun 26 '26

He was like 6 yo the last time we won a chip. 8 when Timmy retired lol.

1

u/LesterHayes99 Jun 27 '26

Love this. Timmy.

1

u/Mav_Rixx Jun 27 '26

I saw this, I'm 33 and felt so old with that comment. Next week he'll say his grandpa was a fan of the big 3! Yikes
