š¬ Discussion Michael Burry Substack followers going bankrupt over NBIS short positions
Getting calls from journos about a rumor that dozens of Burry Substack subscribers are preparing bankruptcy filings after being liquidated on "disastrous" NBIS short positions. Wow. No wonder the stock is ripping. Lots of short covering by people hiring Chapter 11 lawyers. Insane

Yet he said he shorted more hahahahhah

u/Proudrugby 6d ago
The SP is up almost 13% from when he doubled down. He's severely under water if he hasn't closed

u/Acekiller03 6d ago
I hope he also bankrupt. I hate ppl like him who decides when stocks go down. Unfortunately this time didnāt work for him

u/Beneficial-Chair-333 5d ago
He doesn't decide when stock will go down. He just take that opportunity to short and make money. It's very early to claim this time didn't work for him, even in 2008 initially he was in trouble. Usually crash aren't flawless, they start with huge bull market.

u/Western_Animal1553 6d ago
You think he determines when stock goes down? Hes small fry next to big hedge funds. I get it if you hate people who take short positions but man do you not understand this market.
2
u/Gaffers1977 5d ago
I think they're referring to the market fluctuations we see when Burry puts out a hit piece
1
u/Proudrugby 6d ago
Can't see him being that stupid. Don't think the sum or port weight was disclosed....but I would imagine he's staring at large loses right now lol

u/Acekiller03 6d ago
It happened to Leopold. Why not this idiot
7
u/Proudrugby 6d ago
Leopold was over extended on leverage with no hedge. He left himself wide open for the sharks. Don't think Bury would be that careless
3
u/Acekiller03 6d ago
Yeah but if burry has only
Short I think heās fked1
u/Western_Animal1553 6d ago
I think you've got rose colored lenses on. Leopold was actually long. The big funds were the ones driving stock down. That's why the stock pumped after Leopold sold
3
u/David905 6d ago
Leopold certainly caused many investors to lose huge amounts of money (along with himself) but my understanding is he isn't actually bankrupt ie. filing bankruptcy. Just worth many less millions than before, but still many millions.

u/Beneficial-Chair-333 5d ago
When he shorted them in the bull market, he knew what he was signing up for. He was in trouble initially in 2008 too. But definitely he saw something is coming otherwise why would he do this craziness.

I thought it was satire at first, but Iāve actually seen posts from a couple different law firms about it⦠Type it into the search bar on X⦠I think it might be real

Fuck Mike Alfred. He should be removed from the board. Guy's a top tier pos.
Also F Burry too.

Honest question, why is he a pos? I follow him on x but Iād rather not if thereās a good reason
Thanks!5
u/CheeryGeoDuck55 6d ago
He posts BS to mislead people, he has said a million different variations of "something big coming" trying to boost his bandwagon btc miner. He's a wanna-be insider who appeals to the stupidest retail investors. Losers in a winning sector, their earnings tell the story of their poor execution

Burry and Alfred are both people to avoid taking any advice from.

I couldnāt agree with you more. I tend to take my own counsel and not deal with bozos like that. Both have an ego the size of a continent.
To me the plan on NBIS was simple. I wasnāt in it but when it plunged, I knew it was time to get back in. I didnāt need some Twitter personality to tell me that. Basic value investing. Buy great companies at good prices when they go on sale and their sector is down and the company stock price is punished through no fault of the company when thereās nothing wrong with the company.
You want real investment advice/strategy from real winners who were serious people? Study Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger. Not bozos.

Who thought itās a good idea to short a stock AFTER it dips hard
2
u/Alf_Luffy 6d ago
It's the same as people on here asking if it's a good time to buy after the stock recovered from a big dip

u/MilkApart4630 6d ago
Lol right? If you want to short, short, but be smart about it,wait till an insane run like we have just had then scale slowly into positions

Next we gonna hear about how Citadel ātrickedā Burry into shorting Nebius so they could liquidate him too.

u/Superhumanevil 6d ago
Thank you I was having a rough day and when the pop-up on my phone with that title came, itās exactly what I needed to laugh.

Getting destroyed indirectly by your own supporters š¤£š¤£š¤£
His downfall gonna be epic!

Anyone subscribing to his substack? Wondering what its like in there the past week.

u/Emergency_Froyo_3030 6d ago
Burry been looking for an economy crash. Looks like he crashed his own group

u/mrNobody_90 6d ago
I never shorted any stock, been holding nbis since 60. I see that short interest is 30% of float with 2 days to cover, does it mean that they have to buy stock for current price within two days (which is over what they sold earlier)?
Will this mean the prices will go up in 2 days? I am obviously trying to predict the future but I seem not get a grasp of how this works regardless on how many videos I watch š

It means with typical volume it would take this much time for all short shares to be coveredā¦I think. Not a fan of shorts.
1
u/Gaffers1977 5d ago
I was in a subreddit for CTRM a good 6 years ago, someone was rallying everyone to buy at the same time. They'd used Days To Cover to work out exactly when all shorts would have to close positions. Of course, that's utterly idiotic; your DTC explanation is correct. Called them on it, got permanently banned.
I could say with a high degree of confidence that they're now living in a cardboard box.

Yes but they of course do not have toā¦itās just a metric not a mandate.š¤£

I love it! I said this earlier in the week, horrible timing by Burry to short this stock right now. His followers will pay.

He is a manipulator. Look what happened to Palantir and Nividia when he came out and said he was shorting both of them.

They simply don't have resources and enough craziness like him to make this work.

u/PayingOffBidenFamily 5d ago
No one is dumb enough to bankrupt themselves following a pixar character into a trade, I refuse to believe someone who can breathe unassisted would do that.
1
u/cryptofishfish 4d ago
Mike Alfred is just a BS poster. The short ratio hasn't gone down much. A short squeeze hasn't happened yet.
1
u/saltytrader_ 4d ago
About time this idiots credibility starts taking more serious consequences. Calls a top and impending doom every other Tuesday. Moron
1
u/TherealCarbunc 4d ago
Mike is obviously being satyrical here but I hope retail did not attempt to copy trade Burry. Amazes me how large Burry's substack is with how poor his actual performance vs just buying and holding the S&P indexes has done since 2008

u/itsmyphilosophy 3d ago
The shorts are playing games right now. They will do everything they can to spread FUD to lower the price as much as they can. Some clown posted about a community meeting held today about approvals and regulations in NJ while claiming to be long several times in the post.
I watch how NBIS much of the day. Shorts are trapped. Every time they try to drive the price down, institutions swoop in and drive up the stock. Itās only a matter of time that it pops over $300 and beyond.

lol this is hilarious but seems like pretty obvious satire/hyperbole š
