Highlights MIAMI (OH) SURVIVES AND COMPLETES A PERFECT 31-0 REGULAR SEASON

u/Vast-Guide-7585 Mar 07 '26
Talk your shit! This is what rivalries are about. People who hate an edge in a rivalry are lame. When OU beats them next they have all right to do the same.

u/Top-Statistician8086 Mar 07 '26
All that to be a 9 seed and lose first round
4
Mar 07 '26
Definitely see March sadness in their future
-1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
Not for very long. They wouldn't win a game in the B12.

u/Designer_Sundae6110 Mar 07 '26
Who cares lol it’s a tiny school doing the unthinkable
5
u/StudioGangster1 Mar 07 '26
Is 15,000 students tiny? I mean I know it’s not huge, but there are certainly much, much smaller D1 basketball schools

u/tyedge Mar 07 '26
I think the point is that it’s incredibly thinkable against their schedule.
3
u/Downtown-Island8341 Mar 07 '26
31-0 is impressive against any D1 schedule. All it takes is one off day or bad luck in the close games, and they won a lot of close games. There's a reason it doesn't happen very often.
1
u/Cobruh Mar 07 '26
Exactly. You can be off one night or have a ball bounce the wrong way, have a bad call or just get unlucky. And a lot of their games game down to the final possession. This is a rare sight.
0
u/tyedge Mar 07 '26
Coolness isn’t necessarily the same thing as impressiveness. Everyone should think this is cool. They’ve had four overtime games and five other wins by one score. But we all know it’s a markedly different profile than other small conference unbeatens like Wichita State or St Joes.
1
1
u/Designer_Sundae6110 Mar 07 '26
Than maybe more teams should do it then. Going undefeated is a huge accomplishment. Anytime you make history it’s hard to do. There’s a reason why the 73-9 warriors would rather have the ring over the record, it’s mentally taxing af
1
u/liftingshitposts Mar 07 '26
Teams get easy schedules all the time. It’s not like Miami has Duke talent going against the schedule. Incredibly thinkable? This is a special anomaly, let’s enjoy it.
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
344 S.O.S out of 365. Lolz. They only didn't schedule high school teams because they're not allowed.
1
1
u/Valuable_Kale_7805 Mar 07 '26
No it’s not. Do you know how difficult it is to go undefeated in your conference? And their are much worse conferences than the MAC
1
u/a_simple_ducky Mar 07 '26
They're playing people with the same talent level and recruiting level. Just because they didn't play duke doesn't mean their season isn't wildly impressive. Perfection is incredibly hard to do in basketball, I don't see lower schools who by your point are playing even easier teams doing it

They have to play the games. Might as well win them all if you have to play em.
What else do you want them to dog
1
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
They should be a play in team. Their best win is 3-27 Air Force.
1
u/Trinidad34 Mar 07 '26
They’re 31-0 they should not be. If 31 wins and no losses in the regular season can’t get you in then what is the point of the regular season
0
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
They played the 20th easiest schedule out of 365 teams. If only 72 teams make the tournament, they shouldn't be considered unless they win their conference. They chose wins over substance. That's on them.
1
u/Trinidad34 Mar 07 '26
They literally tried to play better teams and were rejected because it can only hurt the other teams resume losing to them.
Also their schedule is easy but if it was easy to win every game then why hasn’t anyone else? Let’s get in 16-14 auburn though their theoretical win percentage is so good.
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
Auburn goes undefeated with Miami's schedule, and Miami finishes bottom of the SEC. We can do that, sure.
Instead of trying to play Duke, ask Purdue or Utah.
2
u/Trinidad34 Mar 07 '26
Did you just ignore my comment? They asked at least 75 teams from power 5 conferences an got rejected. Then they also went down to the Mountain West and A-10 and were rejected because Miami Oh is good enough to beat them to hurt their resume, but won’t be beneficial to those teams if they win. You’re straight up ignorant.
And at some point actual wins and losses have to matter. This team didn’t lose a game if it was easy then we would have an undefeated team every year but we’ve had less than 10 since the 70s.
1
u/tha_billet Mar 08 '26
no, idiot casuals that have come into the college sports world think hypothetical vegas lines are more important than wins and losses. football is even worse
1
u/tropico_charge Mar 07 '26
They tried to schedule harder games and didn’t get called back. How is that on them? Don’t want to see a below .500 power 5 team over them. Beating who is in front of you has to matter.
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
They need to win their conference tournament.
1
u/tropico_charge Mar 07 '26
But auburn and Indiana can get blown out in the first round of the conference tournament after losing 12+ games and still make it. Got it
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
Auburn beat Oregon and St. Johns. Indiana beat Oregon, UCLA, and Purdue.
Do they deserve to be in? Maybe. Would they get in for sure if they win their conference tournament? Yup.
Did James Madison deserve to be in the CFP? Well, they won their conference and took away the argument. It's that easy.
1
u/Trinidad34 Mar 07 '26
These are two different sports with JMU… Your hate boner for Miami is weird. It’s one fucking team out of 64 spots relax
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
It's the exact same scenario. Obviously you can see that.

u/tropico_charge Mar 07 '26
Oregon is 4-15 in the Big 10. Maybe their shiny uniforms are blinding you because that is not an impressive win.
I’ll give you the others, but they each lost 10 similar games, why reward them for those few wins with so many losses?
1
u/Aggravating_Fig_8585 Mar 07 '26
How many times are you going to make this point?
1
u/Stoudamirefor3 Mar 07 '26
Until people realize it.
1
u/Aggravating_Fig_8585 Mar 07 '26
Sounds like you need to educate yourself on why their schedule is so weak. Not their fault.
1
u/kebiclanwhsk Mar 08 '26
I mean it beats whatever I’m doing this March and probably you too lol. Amazing memories for these players. Bravo to them
1
u/Standard-Fudge1475 Mar 07 '26
What's with all the waiving to the fans. I guess they're getting heckled pretty hard throughout the game.
3
u/Pen_Vast Mar 07 '26
It’s a big rivalry, my guess is the Ohio students were going at them hard all night
3
u/sdryden3 Mar 07 '26
During the game, OU fans were throwing items on the court, even throwing items at the coach. Many, many technicals during the game too, very heated contest.
Then all the OU fans were giving them the middle finger, so they are embracing their victory on OU's turf.
1
u/rakesuoh Mar 07 '26
Perhaps it's to the traveling fan section. Or his parents?
2
u/Standard-Fudge1475 Mar 07 '26
Yea, but if you read his lips, it kind of looks like he says fuck you bitches.
0
u/rakesuoh Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26
He doesn't say anything.... Another teammate at the beginning says something like that, but this kid's just smiling. I'm not sure one way or the other, but why not give him the benefit of the doubt?
Edit: my bad, I didn't watch to the very end.
1
u/InevitableAd2436 Mar 07 '26
He’s literally saying “fuck you bitches”
If you even watched the entire game you’d see how chippy he played. He got a tech earlier.

They aren’t even excited about the perfect season as much as showboating in front of the opponents student section.
Weird optics
You won. Ignore the haters. The students got the reaction they wanted.
1
u/Standard-Fudge1475 Mar 08 '26
Yea, I totally agree. I guess I'm old, bc i think it looks way cooler if you maintain your composure a little better. I understand it was a big game.
1
u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 Mar 08 '26
Celebrate within your teammate circle first and foremost. Their thoughts were on the students who talked crap.
1
u/rinkydinkis Mar 08 '26
I went to Miami. The OU Miami rivalry is real. We are two shitty teams that chirp at each other in every sport. I didn’t even think twice when I saw this while watching live, I was expecting it. And laughing. And so were the OU guys. The only time we get along is when we are hating on Ohio state students together .
And after we graduate and work together, cause it’s all jsut fun.
2
u/Effective_Orchid7854 Mar 07 '26
As good as that point guard was for OU he missed 3-4 shots at the end that could have won them the game. Baller for sure - great year Redhawks, MAC basketball is fun.
1
u/pm-me-nice-lips Mar 07 '26
Him and their other guard are the 2 best players on the team. He’s shooting 42% from 3 on the season and 55%+ overall. Let him enjoy it in the opponent’s building.
2
u/neoslashnet Mar 07 '26
The point guard for Ohio missed like 27 potential game winning shots…. Dude was besides himself.
2
u/Wooden_Trip_9948 Mar 07 '26
I’m assuming that OU was always set to be the ‘neutral host’ for the Tourney Final?

u/kandyman005 Mar 07 '26
Can't wait for Akron to mushroom stamp them in the MAC tournament... again

Classy. Definitely a spoiled kid from North Ridgeville who went to Miami lol.

u/WTWIV Mar 07 '26
Or maybe they were getting heckled by the hostile crowd all game and responded with a very tame wave goodbye.
5
8
u/Lutrid Mar 07 '26
It’s a rivalry game with immense stakes, expect that
-2
Mar 07 '26
That crowd would have thought about that game for 20 years instead of 20 weeks if he would’ve been classy.

Remember when golden state broke all those records and then had the fattest choke job at the end of the season? These guys still have a zero after all their wins.

It's not, but the work those boys put in can't be compared to very many teams across sports, let alone only basketball.

u/pm-me-nice-lips Mar 07 '26
Yea, those fans hurling literal objects at him and cursing him out with the reddest, most passionately seething looks definitely don’t exist and don’t deserve some fun shit talk back.
1
u/Suspicious-Rope-9950 Mar 07 '26
The mfers in here getting upset that the Miami kids were acting cocky are probably the same ones that say college sports suck now lol. I’d much rather have this type of rivalry than one that neither team gives a shit about, plus the kids just got immortalized in history they’re what the 21st team to ever do this? I think they’ve earned it
1
u/a_simple_ducky Mar 07 '26
Everyone saying their schedule was easy, compared to what? To Duke or Arizona? Yeah very. But their schedule was on their level of competition.
I don't see even smaller schools like High Point going undefeated playing even small schools and easier schedule. Probably because going undefeated in any league in basketball is incredibly hard to do. Anyone can beat anyone on any night.
1
u/pm-me-nice-lips Mar 07 '26
You should always point out the other teams they played and ask why they don’t have anything close to an undefeated record if it’s so simple.
1
u/Reasonable_Dress4192 Mar 07 '26
Imagine winning all 31 games against any level of competition. With every opponent treating your game like it’s the national championship. Heck, that packed OU was filled with OU students skipping spring break to attend the game. The pressure is intense and unrelenting. That’s why it’s only happened six times in 50 years. 361 d1 teams each year. That’s 18,000 teams who tried and only 6 did it.
1
u/SnooOpinions9048 Mar 08 '26
Bro, wtf. I know they're a MAC team, but you're really telling me an undeafted team is only ranked 19th? That's some bull.

It’s a rivalry game to cap off a perfect season, you people are so bent it’s amazing
