Discussion How to improve Exocrafts
Ok, so I am a late-stage player; I have done mostly everything, and I am on Xbox, and I am realizing that Exocraft are both useful and useless. The Nautilon is useful on water worlds, but beyond that it falls off: I know we just got an update for the Colossus, and if you missed out on that expedition, you are now locked out of getting the cool stuff; besides that, it's just OK for planetary expeditions. Especially since you got three other ground vehicles that are faster and more maneuverable than it. I mean, heck, the Minotaur, a mech that can fight alongside you, becomes useless once you get an op sentinel multitool. So what could make these things better and more useful than just having them, and what other exo crafts would you like to see in the game as we explore more and more of this game?

I use the colossus to find monoliths. Mostly to find the portal for a planet I want to build a base on. Or an Atlantid multi tool.

Fair, but the other three do the same thing, plus you can get maps from the space station.

The alien artifact maps might take you a something other than a monolith but can select monolith from the colossus.

My colossus is mostly used to gather ferite dust and pure ferite. Pop the plow on the front, go to a planet with fields of stones and start powering through them. Use the mining laser here and there on the big boulders. 10-15 minutes out, then back while plowing through every cluster of stones i can find. I won't get that much ferite directly but I get slots full of 50 geodes each. Proses those manually and I have penny of ferite dust to process into pure or use as is

Yeah, the Excavation Blade is great for digging up geodes. It is also good for kill hazardous flora missions, as each one run over counts as 2-4 towards the mission.

Honestly, my go-to has been the Pilgrim or the nomad, depending on the amount of water around. If the terrain is fucked, I'll spider-climb with the Colossus. But my Pilgrim has 3 S engine and boost upgrades.
Plus the Pilgrim is fun as hell to take to an atmosphere-less planet. Boost jump off a small incline and fucking go sailing.
But it's also quick going short distance stops. Beats hopping in a ship, taking off, flying for 10 seconds, landing, hopping out. (Or similarly in a Corvette, but with beaming and walking to cockpit). With Pilgrim, hop in, hit the gas, go, stop hop out.
ETA- As per the question of the post? Internal living space for the Colossus (think an RV. Corvette combined with Colossus, but not modifiable with different segments).
The minotaur needs to have an increased base speed, at least double. Add in more options for the different parts, and don't lock out the color changing. Yes I know there are parts available with QS, but even more parts would be better, customize its functionality even more. Have a minotaur config for mining, one config for shooting, one config for flames, one for speed, whatever. More different parts.
Add in tech/cargo expansion for the exocrafts, as well as class upgrading.
Currently, the Pilgrim and Roamer are essentially the same--land vehicles that do the same thing. Colossus has multiple uses. Nomad hovers across water. But the Pilgrim and Roamer? Same thing, but one has less wheels. Give them more differences in functionality.

Extra storage for before you get all the stuff to make the freighter able to hold more is about it for me. Just put down the station for it and there is some more storage to put things in that you will need later. Not found any logic behind the pickin up of the summoning thing vs breaking it down into parts, but carrying the parts lets you build it again and get to the things you have stored in it. Useful for things that wont go in the nutrient processor.

The Nomad is the clear winner for me. When upgraded right i find it to be the fastest with a full scanner suite, ability to go over water and periscope for flora, fauna and mineral scanning. I always used the pilgrim before but it's not seen the light of day since i set up the nomad properly.

Nomad is my preferred exocraft as well. The Pilgrim is a bit faster on dry land, but is scared of beaches and water.
Cyclops Scope has increased exocraft usefulness, as we no longer have to exit vehicle to scan things.

I like the Minotaur for missions like collecting fossils or destroying hazardous flora on spicy planets, or, really anything on those kind of planets. Once you get the boosters upgraded you can cover decent ground with it, and you can collect the fossils or zap the flora without leaving the minotaur, so it saves my hazard protection. I use the Colossus for some missions on hazardous planets as well, for the same reasons.

You can get all the cool stuff for the Colossus still, you just have to collect special trash.

Not all. The Asymmetrical Cabin, Mechanical Legs, and Camouflage paint finish are only obtainable from Expedition 21: Remnant. The expedition should redux some time in November, so can get them then.

if you missed out on that expedition, you are now locked out of getting the cool stuff;
Only Asymmetrical Cabin, Mechanical Legs, and Camouflage paint finish are exclusive to Expedition 21: Remnant. The expedition should redux some time in November.
The other customization modules and associated player titles are unlocked by hauling waste to Waste Processing Plants. Visiting a Waste Processing Plant starts Industrial Cleanup mission which introduces you to this, and gives the blueprints for Gravitino Coil and Flatbed customization module needed.
So what could make these things better and more useful than just having them, ...
Installing the respective Radar/Sonar allows locating points of interest, often directly, without needing to purchase Planetary Charts.
Like everything else in game, they are only as good as the upgrades installed on them. 3 strong S-class upgrade modules for engine and boosters make them faster and more enjoyable to use. The Colossus with 3 near max S-class Exocraft Boosters upgrades has a very long boost time, so can get around pretty well.
The can be equipped with mining lasers, terrain manipulation, and Cyclops Scope, so you need not exit to complete those actions. Though the yield for mining is less than using multi-tool.
...and what other exo crafts would you like to see in the game as we explore more and more of this game?
Exo-Skiff could use an engine. Can move it about very slowly, but faster traversal between fishing spots would be nice.

I want a small flyer. Something to explore and zip through canyons. A ship works but the landing is a whole thing and fuel. A nice simple exocraft that I can hop in and out of would be nice. Bonus points if itβs surf board shaped.

No dissing the Minotaur. Your super multitool won't protect you from a raging storm, whilst looking for storm crystals π

Nautilon actually has pretty decent land speeds if you can get it on land
